Poly Prep has been a complete disappointment. Teachers assign a large quantity of work, but most do…read moreminimal instruction. There are far too many "work periods" and not enough teaching. Having students work in groups on a packet or on a simple project during class time is not teaching. Assignments are not returned for weeks. One of my children waited 3 months to get their grade back on a paper. It's typical to wait 4-8 weeks to get a grade on an assignment. The choices for literature are not very interesting, and are all very similar in nature. The food is abysmal, and there are almost no field trips. I have no idea what they spend tuition money on. Well, the board's goal for this year is to increase teacher salaries by $1,000,000, so perhaps that is where the $65,000 per student is going. Middle school children are not allowed to go outside during lunch or even leave the cafeteria. I would not recommend this school. You can find much better places to send your children.

I can't actually comment on the school, but I am in love with their birds! Chickens, roosters,…read moreducks, a turkey, plus turtles and an occasional rabbit, it's a weird little private zoo. People stand with their kids at the fence shoving food in to the animals, which is of course not a great idea--stick to just admiring, so the animals don't get fat and unhealthy and accustomed to Cheetos. Another strange corner of Brooklyn becomes an attraction because of its animals, and it's pretty endearing.

As far as a House Of Worship goes, I do like coming here for Mass on Sunday as its rather close to my apartment building. Its a two plus block walk as opposed to the other churches which as five and ten blocks walk if you were opting for one of those. The interesting thing about this particular church is that there are two sections. The part that the public can enter into and then off to the right hand side of the altar is the section where the nuns sit. You really don't see them unless one is doing one of the readings or when they are going up to receive Communion and I should point out that they are served first and then the public congregants. I've only recently been choosing to come here for the Sunday mass since there is one at 9AM and the priest seems to be visiting from another country. I am not certain that they have a priest of their own in residence for those who are concerned about that. There is an organist and occasional choir up above. There is no proper collection to support the church and school but a basket is available for donations should you be feeling charitable. I also didn't notice any sort of votive candles in this section but there are some beautiful statues and paintings. Other masses are sporadic in times but I do think there is a daily morning mass that begins around 8AM if going there interests you.
