Do not go here. It is a overpriced, run down sham. To make things straight, the only thing going for it is that is the only decent school education and safety wise left in Brooklyn.
Atmosphere: To start off, for a 10k tuition, the school can barely look presentable. Classroom paint is peeling off the walls, chalkboards that have been now been pretty much disused have been left on, showing a display of virtually scratched with scribbles and obscene text, most of the sinks do not work, and toliets clogged/broken. Alot of the floors are dirty and finger grease lingers on the desks. The only nicely kept rooms are the auditorium, gym and computer lab, which is the only place Xaverian has attempted to spend any money on in recent years.
Teachers/Education/Staff: Xaverian prides itself on being a college prep school, which is good in every right. The teachers who enforce this however are a real odd bag. There are a few good teachers, who are kind, teach well, and respect their students. There are other teachers however seem to pride on belittling and even cursing at the people they teach. Xaverian seems to pride itself on cursing to help prepare it students for college. One kid I saw was told to "move his f****n seat, or you'll be in alot f****n trouble" when one kid refused to move his seat and taunted the supervisor. This happens with teachers too, but not as severe as that case. Sure, its not a sunshine world, but for 10k, do you really want your son to be cursed at an education institution by an adult? Work wise, Xaverian can crush you. Nine periods a day, with no period drop leaves you deep in hours of homework assignments, with no relief. Xaverian can become very stressful as a single ed school.
Students: 95% of Xaverian's students look like they tried to audition and failed for MTV's "Jersey Shore". As the other reviewer said, guido jocks make a good portion of the schools power. Disgusting fake tans, gaudy jewlery, and being just plain loud and obnoxious is a clear sign with this bunch. There are no cliques, just guidos. Anyone from outside of NYC would be crushed during their first day. These kids pride on picking and making life hell for the special needs children, which you would think by the age of 16 that would come to an end. Drug use in the school is comically rampant, with pot being a familiar smell in bookbags. Sometimes they light up in the bathrooms, and well..the smell travels far and wide. The school makes no attempt to enforce this. Most of the kids come into homeroom with black eyes and something broken. There was even one event where after school three seniors got into a fight, followed by one of their mothers coming out of her car with a baseball bat. Stay classy Xaverian.
Other Notes/Final Thoughts: Xaverian barely keeps any interest for the well being of its students, there are virtually no class choices and no elective classes to keep students interested. Clubs are barely even given attention. School dances are a one time year thing, where the moronic staff decides to stuff a tight, dark auditorium with freshmen, sophs, juniors, and seniors all together. Best not take a girl unless you want some lowlife guido on her. Sports are a pretty strong thing in the school, and as the other reviewer said, the guido jocks are given priority first. To sum things up, Xaverian might be worth it for its education options, but its students, atmosphere, varying teacher quality and respect for its students is so poor than you will end up just depressed at how your stuck in a singe ed school with a bunch of white trash. Shamefully, there are no good schools left in Brooklyn. Mabye its just time to change schools and move to the burbs. read more
