On my 5th try James answered the phone. He was very upfront and professional. He had me email him photos and contact info. Within 15 minutes he emailed me a quote. He arrived less than 30 minutes after I emailed my confirmation back. Within 2 hours he had assessed what he needed to do and took off to get some sand bags. He tarped some areas and did some roof maintenance. He said if there were any more leaks to call him, even if it was at night. It's pouring and so far no leaks. He's honest and diligent. He replaced washer outlet box in the laudatory room. During the testing, he left one faucet open, and water shot out and landed on the laundry ground. luckily I found it within tens of seconds and shut it off. I had to help clean the water mess in the laundry room. He welded the joint between the new outlet box lower copper brass inside and copper pipe outside. He did some cleaning and welded both together and thought he did a successful high-quality job. I asked him whether there is potential leakage after welding and his warranty. He said sure he will have warranty, but he has never had to come back a second time in the past tens of years. Two weeks later, after turning on water for four days, water are on the laundry flooring. He was called during early afternoon, and he could not show up on the same day. I had to open the drywall, and found the leakage came from the joint welding mentioned above. Emailed him and talked to him again the second day, then he said he will charge everything ($75 travel fee + material fees related to welding) except labor saving $50/hour for two hours for re-soldering even if that solves the problem. That is his warranty. Then he kept talking on the phone all other possibilities like corrosion might cause the issue and copper pipes might need to be replaced. He kept talking how much efforts he has tried last time, he has over 40 years of experience, if he could not do the job, that is not due to being out-of-skills and the copper pipe is to be blamed. Last and not least, his warranty is just labor free for re-welding, even if corrects the issue. Otherwise, you need to spend more money replacing the copper pipes which he claims to have corrosion inside. So, he can find a bunch of reasons to a layman, and then concludes he has experience, and you can go away to find another handyman to fix the issue out of his work. PS: yes. I followed his instruction, and did find a handyman one day later, fixed the leakage issue due to the poor welding on the joint by Temecula handyman service. The new handyman welded one time, and double checked no marginal leakage. This new handyman has only about 7 years of experience with pluming fixing, and he does a really high-quality job. I had called him to install a surround sound system. The work he did installing the speakers in the ceiling was good. He spent about an hour trying to figure out how to make the sound come through when the tv is on. He charged us for all 5 hours, including his lunch time and the time trying to figure out where the wires go from the tv, to the surround system, to the tv cable box. He also charged us almost $50 for a travel fee which I was completely unaware of, although we only live about 15 minutes from Temecula so Im not sure. The frustration lies in that we had to call someone else and pay again to have someone fix the connections and make the sound system actually work. This was not an easy job; the installation of a complex kitchen moved from one site to another. It involved cutting into a 12" concrete slab, running plumbing and electrical lines to an island, sealing the trench, repairing cabinets that were busted during the move, installing dishwasher, stove and garbage disposer, hanging more cabinets in another area, sheet rock and finishing. James is a true professional AND a rock star! He looks half crossed between Christopher Loyd and Hulk Hogan. He's one of the nicest guys we've met so far here in the Temecula area. He showed up for work exactly when he said he would, charged me an up-front, honest price, and made the stucco on the back of my house look like new again. I had holes and cracks in my stucco and James was able to make these virtually disappear - he color matched the stucco very nicely. I also had him help me mount some TV's and he hooked up my old archaic surround sound system. The guy is a wiz! I also really appreciated that he didn't make my wife or I feel bad about asking him to remove his shoes (she is Asian, so it's a cultural thing .. PLUS we had just installed new wood floors and had just paid to DEEP CLEAN the house). He said it only takes a few seconds to remove his shoes and NO PROBLEM. Other service providers have scoffed at us in the past for asking them to remove their shoes or wear shoe covers. I really appreciate his sensitivity to our needs. I will DEFINITELY be calling him back in the not to distant future to rebuild/repaint my wooden gate and to finish off the stucco work. I had a faucet that needed replacing. James to the rescue!! He was punctual, tidy, efficient and completed the job in less than an hour. His hourly rate was fair. However, I found the mileage charge of $37.50 to be quite high. Especially since I was only a little over 8 miles away and the current 2103 Standard Mileage Rate is 56.5 cents per mile.
