I finally got to eat at Tel Aviv Grill and boy do they have the goods. Everything is so fresh, I love the zhkuge spicy green sauce, their homemade hummus was fire. Definitely go with the laffa bread for the wrap. Their plates are solid too. I personally love their shawarma both the beef and chicken are fire but the beef is superior. Their portions are unreal, they are consistently unreal in how much they serve you. I appreciate this particular location as they have more than enough seating, they are generously staffed with plenty of cooks, hosts, bus boys, etc. this is a well oiled machine. There are clean restrooms available and even a sink in the hallway in case you just need to wash your hands. My experience here was truly elite, for that I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. They have a huge shared private parking lot. There are many solid businesses in this plaza, so be sure to check out Im idan med spa, Rasputin, Core Power Yoga, a gorgeous hair salon in the back and so much more. Solid assortment of businesses not to mention, across the street there are a grip of businesses too. You could literally get everything done here. We've been to this place a few times. every time we went, we were served cold food. The last time we went, we were party of 6 we specifically asked the cashier that we want our kabobs to be well done and we want the food to be hot. Not only my wife's chicken kabob was not cooked well, it was cold too!! Her meal was not the only meal on the table that was cold. The next morning, we both had severe stomachaches which we could not possibly believe. Please do not be fooled by the portions that they give you, they fill up your plates with lots of salads, to cover up the stingy portion of one skewer chicken or beef kabob which they serve you on their plates!! They claim to be glatt kosher but their food, meat & chickens are not healthy at all. We will never step foot in there again. After a while, there was a response from the owner: " I am sorry to hear about your experience with us. This is not something that we take lightly. I would like to offer my apologies. Please give our main office a call and ask for my secretary. She will be happy to hear from you and will do her best to rectify the situation." I did call and talked to her. She said that she is going to talk to the owner and will get back to me. She texted me the following: I appreciate the time you spent talking to me regarding your experience at Tel Aviv Grill. I spoke to the owner and he agreed to send you a gift card in the amount of $150 which you can use at any of our locations including "Popular" our newest store and Tel Aviv Tapas. Although I understand that your review was based on a true experience, considering the fact we are rectifying the situation, will you please either remove the negative review or rewrite it with a better light? Unfortunately I have to give 1 star for the mistreatment my partner and I received today. I really loved this place but cannot anymore unfortunately. I am screenshotting and pasting here the email I sent to them just now, in case the email gets lost in their spam. I did email them directly after this happened, and I did speak calmly to the manager myself, but the manager said the man working wasn't being racist, did not offer to comp any of our food, and apologized for a simple "language barrier." This was much more than a language barrier. If being yelled at by an older man and dealing with racism while simply enjoying a date eating your food that you bought partner bought with his hard earned money sounds great, than this is the place for you! I want to state this review has NOTHING to do with any of the cashiers, kitchen staff, or bussers but everything to do with the way this place is run and the older man that yells at people aggressively. My partner and I (we are a multiracial couple, I am Jewish and he is Hispanic) came in to enjoy this place, as we were literally sending our family photos of the food to bring them all to eat here the following weekend, a man comes over and starts screaming at us to get out and literally said the words (yelling) "THIS IS FOR JEWS." I wish I was making this up but sadly I am not. Apparently a place in the heart of the Valley in the United States will treat non-Jews with this absurd and aggressive behavior, and they're okay with it I guess. We had brought non-dairy drinks in from the cafe next door. There were no signs saying outdoor food and drinks were not allowed. I have worked in an Israeli restaurant and also been to many, and this issue has never happened. When ordering at the register, the cashier kindly asked if we could please eat outside on the patio since we have outside beverages. We said of course no worries. We followed the direction, abided by the rule communicated to us, and took our food and drinks to the outdoor patio. As we were finishing up our meal, this angry old man came over to us - screaming - out of no where that we need to get out, pointing to the drinks and that's when he said THIS IS FOR JEWS. We felt so threatened and confused, that we started to get up to leave. I 100% understand what eating Kosher is, and I 100% respect any rules an establishment has, however we were told it was okay as long as we ate on the patio. The drinks did not have dairy, but again, I understand if no outside food or drinks is allowed due to religious beliefs, I get that! We would have been so apologetic if someone kindly came over to us and asked us to remove our drinks or if they even told us we needed to take our food to go initially - but there is obviously a miscommunication of management, as well as racist undertones - especially considering the man looking at my boyfriend dead in the eye while saying this place is for Jews and to get out. This was not a language barrier. This was mistreatment. This was racist. This was disrespect. And I guess they are okay with hiring someone who will speak to paying customers this way. What if someone wanted to try your restaurant but didn't even understand what being Kosher was? This is how you speak to them? This is how you treat paying customers that keep your business standing? Again, I respect keeping the place Kosher, but all we did was what we were told: it is okay to eat on the patio with your drinks. How have I never reviewed this place? This spot is my GO TO Mediterranean restaurant in LA. This is coming from someone who has an Israeli boyfriend, someone that keeps hummus as a staple in her home, and someone who could probably never get sick of Mediterranean food. My boyfriend introduced me to this place, he and his family love it, and now I do too. He and I used to be long distance for three years and every time he would visit in LA, we would go to Tel Aviv Grill. There are lots of things to get here... pita, laffa, baguette, but I've pretty much always ordered the plate. You choose a meat and you get a wholeeee bunch of sides. You order and pay, and take your receipt to the counter and they prepare the meat and your order for you. I usually order the chicken thigh plate and I split that with my boyfriend. The plate is honestly enough for two people but it's not quite enough protein. So we also order a side of rib eye or chicken shawarma. I get everything with the plate, so that looks like: purple cabbage, green cabbage, cucumber tomato salad, pickles, peppers, roasted eggplant, fries, and one pita. Hummus and tahini too. They have other sauces too but you have to specifically ask for those if you want them, like zchug and amba. Some workers are nicer than others and if you ask for a little extra, they give it to you. Tel Aviv Grill reminds me of when I lived in Jerusalem during my first year of college and used to party on Ben Yehuda street on Saturday nights. Authentic Israeli food all the way! Kosher, fast paced, busy, and serving a hungry Jewish population. It's set up in the same fashion as Subway: pick your meat, pick how you want it -- pita, laffah, or plate -- and then move over to the counter where the guys are making it and tell them what you want on it. Portions are very generous, and the merguez and schnitzel are delicious. The fries are fantastic! Hot sauce is super-hot, so be warned. I plan on going back to try to shawarma. I appreciate the tefillin-laying station and the handwashing station with the prayer over bodily orifices. I also appreciate all of the tzedakah boxes. If we were asked kindly, communicated to clearly, I would have been so so apologetic, I understand the importance and want to uphold Jewish values even if I was not brought up Kosher, I still understand. But this? This goes against all Jewish values - Jewish values mean you leave a seat open for ANYONE, you do not mistreat others. The manager was calm when talking to me but he said he thought it was a language barrier. Did nothing else but that. I told him I want to support their establishment but this really put a bad taste in my mouth. Upon looking at other yelp reviews, it is apparent that this is not the first time this happened. Common themes of disrespect, treating you different if you aren't Jewish are strong here. There is one review where the owner gave someone a $200 gift card for cold food, but I guess yelling at paying customers for doing what they were told and being racist isn't as bad as cold food to them. We weren't even offered a refund. And the kitchen staff was probably blamed for that when they're literally angels who are nothing but kind and hard working every time I have come. I don't care about the money anyway, I am writing this review to share how deeply traumatizing and gut wrenching this experience was. Absolutely fantastic Israeli cuisine in Encino. You order at the counter and then move in a small line to a lengthy open kitchen counter, where you will find a variety of fresh salads and sides laid out in front of you behind glass. A nice worker will then ask you on which salads and sides you want and then the worker will literally load up your plate with all these amazing salads, grilled eggplant, hummus, rice, fries and a hot, thick, pillowy pita bread. As soon as your fire-grilled kabob of choice is ready, it will get unloaded onto your humongous plate of fresh goodies. This time I went with their chicken kabob, which was pretty perfect-- very well marinated, came right off the grill and was so juicy, so tender, so good! Oh, and not to forget, they have THE creamiest, tastiest hummus in all of LA! The spot itself is pretty spacious, with 12 or so tables inside and a large welcoming patio with around 10 tables on the outside. To be more specific, 'Tel Aviv' is within 'Plaza de Oro,' next to a barber shop and Encino Escrow. The only con of this place is the parking situation is rough. At least out front. Their parking spots are ridiculously narrow. Whomever designed this lot needs to get fired lol. A Prius could barely fit! Makes no sense. There also isn't a lot of space to Reverse. So I'd recommend parking in the back of 'Plaza de Oro' as there is much more availability. One thing to note if you haven't been is Tel Aviv Grill is a 100% Glatt Kosher restaurant. And they observe Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. So don't come Friday evening or Saturday because they will be closed! When I came here last I opted for their chicken shwarma plate. After you've ordered at the counter you'll head to the "kitchen / plexi-glass area" where you are given your food. Located in an ethnic shopping center, right next to a Russian market, Tel Aviv offers delicious kosher cuisine built on fresh ingredients and gigantic portions. I ordered the laffa sandwich with beef shawarma, and jam-packed with tomato, onion, and pickled vegetables. I worked hard at finishing it, and none of my friends was able to finish their plate. I came at 2 pm for togo lunch and got the rib eye skewer plate . I asked for medium I received well done. The fries were soggy. The salads and sauces were delicious and Laffa was delicious and warm. I received a side of rice that was cold, which is concerning with grains growing bacillus bacteria. This is serious as the temperature was definitely in the danger zone. Not kept under a warmer, and in an enclosed container prepackaged, which is prime conditions for this bacteria to grow. The service was awful. No structure or welcome of walking in. I stared at the menu for a moment and then walked up and the cashier had an awful attitude as if I was interrupting her day. I actually came in for another item in mind and when I ordered she let me know they don't serve that item on Friday's so I said no worries what do you guys serve today? With an eye roll I was told "literally everything else". The meat was made to order which was delicious. The packaging was less than ideal as the sauces were half hazardous thrown in the bag and one of the sauces popped open making a mess. For context I live very close to this location so the rice should not have gotten to 68 degrees if it was stored properly and a cut of meat would not cook itself to a well done from a medium within 5 minutes.
