It is not often you find a company who takes pride in their work and whose employees are not overworked and just doing the task at hand. OLP is a far cry from this theme. It was quite obvious from the very beginning, they care a great deal about their product, workmanship and finishing. I had done a few searches online and OLP stood out. We choose to engage them for a consult and did so via their website. We heard back promptly and booked a date for a visit. Josh arrived on time, I mean by the minute. No, your technician will be here between 9am and noon....ish, as we have become used to. Or, they just don't show up like AT&T. ahem. Josh is a friendly, burly, engaging gentleman. Extremely knowledgeable of his craft. He listened. He made suggestions and took the time to explain the process, the equipment we were getting installed and left us a quote. We choose to have driveway and pathway lighting as well as a full wrap of the house with low energy LED lights made by Bonzai lighting. These are app controlled. I would imagine that Josh can build out a system at all budget levels and if not, I would imagine he could work within your budget. Our installation was on the high end of cost for reference. We have a large home of 3100 sq ft. HOA's can be a pain. I had to file an Architecture review, even tho one or two other homes in our small neighborhood has home lighting. Josh assured me, we would be fine and even offered to work directly with our HOA if needed. He did provide me with a HOA packet to provide the committee. With that help when submitting the request, we got approved within 48hrs. I'm sure the brochure I was provided made this happen quickly. Day of installation, the OLP crew arrived, actually a little early and exactly to the minute they said they would be here. We had a little knock on the door and the work began. I was actually surprised to see Josh was involved throughout the 2 day install. Chris and his partner, (whose name I didn't get) were always respectful of our property, polite when they needed access anything and cleaned up after themselves. There was a palpable air of pride and execution of the job ahead. They cared about what they were working on and not just slapping something together. The crew wanted their work to reflect their skill set. It wasn't just their J O B, it was their craft. OLP finished up the install and Josh spent some time with us helping us download the app for the Bonzai app and SmartLife app for the Driveway/Pathway lighting. Ran us through the options on the app and sent us a very helpful App Training link to review and learn. We settled up, Josh reminded us of the warranty and to please call/text with any questions whatsoever. The Bonzai lighting is very comprehensive, a myriad of customizations and themes as well as options, such has having the lights over our master bedroom go off at a certain time so as not to keep the wifey awake at night. She is very light sensitive at night and we are having black out blinds being installed which will help the small light spill in the bedroom. Every colour of the rainbow is there, with dozens of preset themes you can pick. It's a little overwhelming, but it's a learning curve. It's Labor day weekend and they finished up yesterday. We had chosen a simple setting for coming on at dusk and turning off at dawn. We noticed nothing came on, so reluctantly we texted Josh at 8.15pm, letting him know and we could address the issue after the holiday. He text back right away and since we choose to name him as an administrator, he was able to get them on, owned up that he inadvertently needed to reset the automation, which he did right away. We will be visiting again after the holiday, since I messed around with one of the themes and now our home looks like a firework show. LOL.. It's ok, we will get used to the app. OLP should definitely get a shot at your project. Give them a call for a bid!

From my experience Color World in Austin just acts as a marketer. They have a nice website that…read morewould lead you to believe they are a professional painting contractor. Once hired, they farmed off the work to an unqualified "independent contractor" in an uncoordinated fashion and did not oversee the contractor's work. I don't hold anything against the painter, Daniel, he's just trying to put food on the table for his family. However, he did not have the correct equipment, did not seem to have the skill set for the work, did not understand the scope of work, and did not understand what Color World's obligations were under the contract. We contacted Color World for a small exterior paint job based upon their website and reviews. We had cracks in the exterior stucco and needed these sealed and painted over. However, it was very high up and difficult to place a ladder. My yard crew offered to do it for $50, if I allowed them to use my 36 foot ladder. However, I was worried about the safety of working at that height and was willing to pay to have the work done safely and professionally with appropriate equipment. A company rep came out to look at the job. His name was Joseph. He was a nice gregarious guy. I guess it's possible he had a fundamental understanding of painting, but if so, he did not bother to share any of it. He seemed more a sales type, took some pictures, and provided a quote of $2,000. When asked why the bid was so high, Joseph claimed that was the company minimum and they would not take a job for less. To make it more cost effective we added painting for a large garage door and frame. The total was then $2,800. The Color World contract states they will provide all equipment and materials, do appropriate surface prep, and clean up after each day's work. For me, the only surface prep done was spraying the garage door with a pressure washer. No wire brush was used and no sanding was done. All of the paint chips removed by the washer were left on the drive overnight, after which they dried and blew all over the yard. Daniel's ladder could not have been more than 32 feet - well short of what was needed. He balanced it on the edge of a retaining wall, had his daughter try to hold it from the bottom and then stood at the very top. Incredibly unsafe. He then tried to paint it from the roof. I had specifically requested no use of the roof as I had recently been coated. The painter probably spent at most 10 hours at the house over 2 and a half days for a $2,800 job. Less than two hours on the part of the job originally bid for $2,000. Then he said he was finished. The casing around the garage door had clearly only received one coat of paint, which did not adequate cover, and the stucco paint still had visible unsealed gaps. Joseph came over to inspect the work and said it looked good to him. I showed him what I thought was unacceptable and described Daniel not having the equipment needed to do the job correctly and safely. I told him at a minimum there needed to be another coat on the door casing and that someone needed to come with the correct equipment to do the stucco job correctly and safely. Daniel came back over the weekend with his daughter and asked to use my ladder. I reluctantly provided it in an effort to get the job done, but he did exactly the same thing with the same ladder my yard crew had offered to do for $50. It seems to me like Color World is just fronting bids for what they think they can get, then leveraging unskilled immigrant crafts people to do the work as independent contractors. With this structure Color World would not have to buy any equipment, hire any employees, pay any benefits, or be responsible for safe work practices. It also allows them to blame any customer dissatisfaction on the subcontractor. If I was not concerned they would just screw the contractor; I would not have paid for this work.

we have a newer house and the last thing on our "to do" list was back yard lighting. we have dogs…read moreand they like to go out in the evenings when it's cool/dark to play and we could never see them. i put out a few bids, which was interesting. one company was crazy expensive, but never actually got me a bid (after around 2.5 weeks), and the other company told me that "i already knew enough" and decided to no show the bid. fwiw, i have a pretty complicated install that integrates with my home automation system. darren came by to check out the job quickly, gave me good information and was able to recommend products based on our budget and our needs. a few weeks later we now have a fully lit backyard including uplighting for our beautiful live oak trees, and downlighting to cover the yard so we can see the dogs. additionally, he installed downlighting for the deck and side yard that we have. all in all, the install job was amazing, and darren was very receptive to trying new things and letting me help with part of it (the tech side).
