This is from my experience trying to buy a 2001 Legacy Outback that's been sitting on the property for a few weeks. I'm considering calling the State of MA and the Better Business Bureau actually, as the severity of the fraud that's happening at this place is unbelievable. My partner and I noticed the car a few weeks ago and have been in the market for an bigger car for our business of dog walking. This car seemed perfect from the outside for exactly what we needed, so we stopped by to test drive yesterday and were so excited that it only had 120,000 miles on it, had NEVER been in an accident and it was priced at $3500, which seemed a little steep, so we took a closer look and found: One of the lights in the front had recently been replaced with glass instead of plastic to match the other side, the front bumper was busted and hanging a bit and the hood was dented and slightly bent, rust on the body, the brakes don't engage properly and they grind, the sun roof cover wouldn't open, it idles like it's going to die, the steering column shakes like crazy on hard turns, one of the seatbelts in the back had been severed, the leather seats have been covered in the front for some reason, etc. We didn't believe the owner, Eli when he told us the car had never been in an accident and that the front damage happened when a tow truck backed into the car, so we ran a Carfax. This car's been in TWO accidents (three if you count the front end damage), the odometer has also been spun back from 175,000 to their advertised low mileage of 120,000 (!!!!! WTF !!!!!) miles and Eli refused to own up to all of the lies he's telling about this vehicle. He says he bought it from a customer, but the last record of ownership is from Canton and the car was sold at auction. I asked why it's been sitting on the lot for so long and he explained that it's because they drive it. He also said the brakes were new,and that he hadn't noticed the seatbelt in the back until yesterday, but today said it was b/c the owner had a dog? Eli tried to make a call to his "friend" about the title so he could prove the mileage, but we were about done at that point. He had no odometer statement from when he bought the car and didn't seem to know what an ODO Statement is, he'd never heard of carfax before and kept telling us that the "website we're looking at is lying to us" -- We tried to explain where the information in the report (which was extensive on this car for the past 11 years) comes from (title, inspections -- it failed several and almost every emissions inspection it had--the registry), but it didn't matter. He was so twisted and stuck in his own lies that he just kept saying we were wrong. I'm also assuming that he he saw two girls walk into his shop wanting to test drive the car and thought we'd be pretty easy to take advantage of, but he was wrong. A friend of ours had the same complaint about this place too when she got her battery changed there and they gave her a used one and then refused to give her money back or change it into a new one when she complained. I won't be buying gas from them either anymore and I would advise you to do the same. You've been warned. The sad thing is, in today's economy, when you go that far to screw someone, you're just disgusting. Eli you should be ashamed of yourself. SHADY. read more

He and his guys do good and honest work in the time you require. I've been going to Eli for six years, ever since moving to the Boston area from suburban D.C. Back then, I had noticed they had some of the lowest gas prices around, so I decided to try them for some repairs to my already older Passat. Over the years in the suburban Maryland and Virginia areas I'd made a rule, even for the car mechanics I trusted. It was to plan to take the car back at least once shortly after repairs had been made, to straighten out what they didn't quite get right. Well, to my surprise and pleasure, no quick re-visit was needed for the work Teele Square Auto had done. Oh, I've been back many times alright, but not for do-overs. It's been for fairly priced, regular maintenance and the steady stream of new problems the Passat was prone to introducing. And this good work has been done on more than the Passat. I have also sent my relations to Eli on occasion, with comparable, good results. I've finally given up the Passat, and am now driving a well-maintained, older Toyota Corolla. Of course I'll take it to Eli as needed, but given the Corolla's reliability, I anticipate fewer visits to Teele Square Auto. Their location is easily reached, as they're just a few blocks from the intersection of Route 16 and Mass. Ave. (On the edge of Somerville, but right next to Cambridge and Arlington.) This workplace is always a beehive of activity and is not much to look at. Nonetheless, they've proven to me time and again that they have enough space and equipment to do first-time-right repair work. One other point, important to me. Eli will not just take your money because you think you need a certain repair. He'll talk you out of it if he thinks the expense is not warranted vis a vis the value of the car. One good example is that my old Passat developed an obviously small leak in the radiator. Rather than try to track it down and patch or replace the radiator, Eli told me to just top off with antifreeze when the dashboard alert light came on. He said it would go weeks or months at a time without needing more, and he was right. That approach has worked fine. The leak did not get worse, and for the last two years, the car has only needed a top-off about every six weeks. read more

I recently brought my truck in to Eli, because 3 mechanics prior to Eli, took SERIOUS SHORTCUTS repairing my truck, but charged me like they did what they were supposed to do. EVERY MECHANIC I have run into for the past 40years knows I or you, know nothing about repairing cars, and they take advantage of that. They throw out sentences like " your conjogulator is outta whack and you have an inspection coming up, should I fix that to?" I know what parts need to be changed for a tune up, but OTHER stations don't install them, and say they do. Eli is the most knowledgeable mechanic around, and strives to make EVERY CUSTOMER happy. He stands behind his product, because he values his name. Any service station can install " after market" parts in a vehicle, but that's where Eli makes the difference. HE KNOWS what's right for your car and how to keep it running longer and " out of the shop". I am completely satisfied with the repairs Eli made, and the genuine anger I could see on his face, when I told him how I was screwed by three other mechanics, really solidified that he takes his work personally. Terrible customer service. Unreasonable, unprofessional, dishonest and obnoxious. Take your business somewhere else. I made the mistake of coming here for an inspection and was failed due to a minor crack on my bumper cover. This is something that I've had for 6+ years and has never caused me to fail a Mass state inspection. I've been to a number of trusted auto body shops and mechanics over the years and not one has ever suggested that my bumper might need repair. Nonetheless, the scumbags at Teele Sq Auto gleefully slapped on that bright red rejection sticker. The guy tried to explain that this was an automatic fail and out of his hands. When I asked why he didn't inform me of the automatic fail before wasting my time and money on an inspection --considering it was clearly visible to them and would've saved me an inspection fee -- he mumbled something nonsensical about "out of our hands, rules set by the state, nothing I can do." Our car stopped in the middle of the street, and based on a AAA list, I had it towed to Teele Square Auto, in the middle of the night. I figured I would call in the morning to follow up. Eli at Teele Sq. figured out how to contact us, and very proactively explained clearly and in detail all the things that were wrong, how much it would cost to fix it (the alternator and a couple of belts had given out). The cost was quite reasonable, and they would have it done the same day by 3pm! I had already given up my plans for that evening, so this was quite a nice surprise. I bring my car here for anything that I need. Eli and the guys are always professional, friendly, and courteous. Recently, I needed all my brake lines replaced. I brought the car in and they took a look at it and diagnosed it in no time. Within the hour I had a quote and a timeline. The work was done perfectly and I got it back on time. I've had a bunch of other work done on my car here and have always had the same experience, which is great. Pricing is always fair and reasonable, unlike many other shops. Fast, reliable and honest! What more could you want in a mechanic? I live right near Teele Square Auto and have gone to them for a number of different problems with my car over the years. They always fix my far quickly and explain everything they need to do. I appreciate that they don't try to add on a bunch of other stuff that mysteriously needs fixed, like some other mechanics do. I have always been treated kindly by employees there and will continue to bring my car there for as long as I live in the area. I see other negative reviews here, but I've always taken my car (I'm on a 3rd one now) to Teele Square Auto. Last example was a problem with the catalytic converter. They could have made plenty of $ on us by just replacing it, but it was still under warranty by a few months and they suggested we get to the dealer for it. This kind of thing had happened before with other parts. At the same time I used to own a beater and they would put that together and point out parts that were going to be problems later...giving me the options of how to proceed. I've been using Teele Sq. Auto for several years, not only for oil changes and other regular maintenance, but for major work as well. Eli, the owner, is trustworthy, and he has never recommended work that didn't need to be done. I'm hypersensitive to sexism in auto repair, and this place is nothing but respectful to women. Best mechanic I've had in 40 years of owning cars. Prices are reasonable, gas is cheaper here than almost anywhere else around, and they finish work when they say they will. They have kept some old cars of mine going for quite a while. Definitely try them out! read more

I wish I could have gave it zero stars but I guess I had to chose something. This is the worse place in the world to go. I had the worst experience there EVER. The customer service alone deserve zero stars and I was dealing with the owner. If the owner was that awful I can't even imagine how the staff members are. They will find some way to rip you off I garentee it!!!! Trust me when I say DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! You will regret it no matter what it's for. This place needs to be shut down seriously. I have taken my car to Eli at Teele Square Auto for more than 10 years. I always feel that I have been treated fairly and I have never been ripped off. Eli has also helped me with car problems I had when out-of-state. My car broke down in Virginia and I needed advice on the recommendations I was getting because I was in such a vulnerable position. Just moved from out of state and had to have the car inspected. Went to a previous place and was quoted 500 odd dollars for repairs and witnessed some scare tactics. I then drove up to Steele Square Auto and the guys were professional, gave me a fair estimate and got the job done for $365. I now have an exhaust pipe that does not leak and a front wheel that is not wobbly. Definitely going to make this my go-to place during my time in Boston. I needed an inspection on my car so stopped in Teele Sq Auto. My car failed the inspection due to an emissions problem. Eli explained the problem to me thoroughly and what I needed to do to have it fixed. I left my car with them to fix the problem which was fixed within a few hours. I have been going to Eli since he opened around 20 years ago, other then warranty work it is the only place to put a wrench on my car (1999 with 147k miles). If Eli says it is broken, its broken, if he says he fixed it, its fixed, if he says it is going to cost X, it costs X. Plus he has the most affordable gas, and a 2nd place down the street.
