I brought my car in because my headlight was going out intermittently. Eli's misdiagnosed it as connector issue, so I brought it back in and they just replaced the bulb again even though this was not the issue. After checking under the hood of my car myself, I noticed that the covers to the fuse box, front harness connector, and opposite headlight (not the one with an issue) were missing. I went back to the shop and they said they did not have anything there anymore even though they were with the car when I had dropped it off. I will be reporting this negligent behavior to the MA Office of Consumer Affairs and Attorney General. Stay away if you would like to have professionals work on your car. read more

Great little neighborhood Service station which offers State inspection. The state inspection is always quick and have been getting my car inspected here ever since I moved to West Medford. If I could choose zero stars, I would. I took my car to Eli's for an oil change and received a voicemail from them saying that while they were looking at the car they checked out a few things and found that my rear brake pads and rotors were worn out and needed to be replaced. They gave me an amount for labor, repairs, and tax of around $556. I told them I would call back to let them know if they could proceed with that repair or not. I then called my trustworthy, honest mechanic that I regularly use for repairs and he gave me a much lower price for the same work so I went to pick up my car from Eli's. Then today I brought my car to my trustworthy, honest mechanic to get the work done. I dropped it off and about 20 minutes later he called and said I could head back to pick up my car because my brakes were like new. He left it up so he could show me when I got there. He was right- very new pads and rotors! I guess the guys at Eli's were trying to take advantage of a woman and get some extra money for themselves. I will never go there again for anything and to be sure, I will be warning all my Arlington & surrounding area friends to avoid this place. read more

I love going to Eli's for repair work. They're fast and professional. The estimates for the work are accurate, with no surprises. They handle emergencies quickly. I once planned a big trip to New York City, but the car needed a repair at midday on Friday. Richie and his team had the car ready Saturday morning, and I was able to get to the Big Apple as planned. They also give you a heads-up on what you will need to do with your car in the future and how long you can wait before it becomes a problem. That helps with financial planning. It's also nice that you can pick your car up at any time the gas station is open. That means that you can drop your car off in the morning and don't have to rush home from work to pick it up before the garage closes. read more

Came here for car inspection. I was told it would be done in 15 min. And the inspection took about 15 min. Done quickly without any issues. $35 is the pricing for inspection, and non-negotiable. (If you have problems with this complain to the government.) COVID-19 note: Wear a mask. There's no seating for waiting since they do not allow people to wait inside. And no real shade outside if you're there on a sunny day. So take this into consideration if you decide to wait for service. read more

They pick up their phone consistently when you call them for help, even when you are feeling urgent about your car repair predicament They always solve the problem, and they keep you appraised of what they've discovered, and what needs to be done, and seem to be very accurate with their estimations of what the cost of the work. I'm so happy to have a reliable mechanic service available at a moments notice. I think they are fair with their pricing and always do what they say they're going to do. I like good service so when they advised getting new wipers I just bought them. Yeah probably cheaper on amazon but local, get it done now and "not another cardboard box" all motivated my decision. I had an unbelievably bad experience here. I took my car to the station in the morning to get my inspection and oil changed. I needed my car by three in the afternoon, and they said they would have it done by then. I returned at three, and the guy at the counter said they didn't have time to get it done. No call, no indication that they wouldn't be able to finish. I just show up and it hasn't been done. So unfortunately, I have to take my car anyway, so I ask the guy to bring it around for me. When he goes to get my car, he comes back out and is basically scolding me, telling me in not so many words that I'm an idiot because I already got my car inspected and didn't realize it. Well, as it turned out, the mechanic had inspected my car and the guy the counter didn't know it. Best of all, it was the beginning of the month and they had put a new sticker on, so the guy was accusing me of going to get my car inspected earlier that morning, and then bringing it to him to get it inspected and somehow not realizing it. Of course, the oil change didn't get done, so I had to go somewhere else for that. So disorganized and ridiculous. I've never experienced anything like it! read more

I have an old tricky car that needs a lot of love with multiple compounding issues and the mechanics have been very straightforward with me as far as diagnosis and options. While some places will just speculate and replace things until they stumble upon an issue these guys know how to actually diagnose. We've brought our cars to Eli's for several repair and maintenance jobs over the past few years. George and all the staff that we've dealt with are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. They always give a thorough explanation of what is going on with the car, but never make you feel pressured into doing work that isn't necessary. They will usually call around to get the cheapest price on parts if they don't have them in stock - so very fair prices. Once I was getting an inspection done on a cold January day, and a guy walked in whose car had died in his driveway. He didn't have any jumper cables, so they loaned him some. I've never written a review for the Gas Station Service Station but this one deserves one. I have a German luxury car and it only takes synthetic oil. I got a very good deal compare to not only the dealership, but also other garages. My Mechanic George was friendly and welcoming. Over the phone he said they would use Mobil 1, the best synthetic oil out there and European brand oil filter. Yeah right! That's what they all say every time I bring my car somewhere. Well, I was wrong here. George showed me both and used it in front of me. He was also quite knowledgeable about his skill and explained me couple of things I was not aware of. The above poster is spot on. The owner/mechanic is needlessly a total jerk. I've been taking my cars there for a few years now and buying gas exclusively from this place. He's yelled at me before after tune ups about this and that but I didn't take it too seriously. Recently he failed me on an vehicle inspection for a small hole in my exhaust pipe. I assume he thought I was gonna pay him to do the work. I took the car home and put a patch from Napa over the hole and muffled down the sound. Brought it back and after turning the car over for a moment. Spouted off a bunch of profanity and shoved my registration and papers into my chest and stormed inside. I took the car 10 minutes later to a different location down the street and got a sticker without a problem and told my story. They said the owner of Eli's has a reputation around town. I will NEVER give that place another red cent for ANYTHING EVER AGAIN! I was spending over $1000 a year there on gas alone. I am also going to actively discourage everyone I know in Arlington from going there. Forget this place, the owner is lucky he's never been physically attacked the way he treats people. read more

I feel like I can really trust the people who work at Eli's. I took in my car to replace my tail-light and brake-light for a reasonable price ($12 each), and Eddie did a diagnostic of my car without charging for labor. He informed me about corrosion and wear-and-tear on my back brakes -- then spent 10-15 minutes patiently explaining the mechanics and answering my questions. He did not pressure me to service or replace them in the slightest, just told me how to keep an eye on something that will eventually become a problem down the road. It's a down-to-earth place. People working there seemed to be busy handling several tasks. When I called, they often asked me to call back or could not answer specific questions without checking with the owner -- but don't let this discourage you. I had a good experience at Eli's. I came in for an inspection and to get a slow leak fixed on a tire. They handled everything quickly and got the tire fixed (leaking at the rim, so they took the tire off and cleaned/buffed the sealing surface before remounting the tire). While I was waiting, the person at the cash register (who seemed to be in charge of the station - owner, I'm assuming) had a rather long conversation with the owner of a Subaru Outback. The guy was asking all kinds of questions about issues he'd had and maintenance advice. The owner answered all his questions and gave him a lot of free advice (that didn't happen to involve bringing the car back for more work). I have been bringing my car to be serviced at Eli's Service Station in Arlington since I purchased it two and a half years ago. It is an older Rav4 which has needed a number of repairs so I have come to know the high quality of their work and the great service they provide. Recently, I had taken my car to a tire place to have new tires and wheels put on it. I asked to have a four-wheel alignment done and the tire place told me they couldn't perform the full alignment because the rear eccentric bolts for the adjustment were rusted and completely frozen. It happened that the next week my car was scheduled to have body work done at a place near where I live. So, instead of listening to my gut instinct to take it to George at Eli's Service Station, I asked the mechanic at the body shop to make the adjustments to the bolts. He said he couldn't and that the lower rear control arm needed to be replaced in order for them to complete the alignment. The repair was quite costly. Despite my regret for not having brought it to Eli's Service Station, I still went ahead with the repair and afterwards promptly took it back to have the alignment finished. I was then told by the tire place they couldn't complete the alignment because the mechanic hadn't fixed the toe adjustment. It seemed like an issue neither place knew how to resolve and I was forced to keep throwing money at this problem. I took my car back to the mechanic who had done the work to ask him why they still couldn't do the alignment. He said not all cars have rear toe adjustments and the tire place is just following their alignment guidelines and probably didn't have a place for exceptions for cars that don't have toe adjustments. He even had me get down on the ground in the parking lot to show me the new part and how he couldn't see a toe adjustment. Of course, I had no idea what it would look like and I would just have to believe him. He offered to call his alignment guy the next week and promised to call me back with more information, but he never did. When it came time to bring my car in for an oil change, I brought my car to George at Eli's Service Station and simply asked him if he could tell me whether or not my car had a rear toe adjustment. I really wanted to understand what the truth was in all of this. It was morning and he was busy checking people in but he understood exactly what I was asking for and called me later in the day to convey what he had found. He even went as far as to email me a color-coded diagram showing me the part which had been replaced and where the still frozen existing toe adjustment was. He also told me what my options were for resolving the remaining alignment issue. This is all to say, bring your car to George at Eli's Service Station so you won't have to live with regret. read more

Being new to the area and given the mostly good reviews on Yelp I came here to get an inspection done, it was done promptly but the attendant had a really bad/angry attitude which I didn't contribute to so I won't be back. When I walked in for service he just stared me down and seemed angry so I just greeted him, asked to get a state inspection and gave him what was needed, I shrugged it off as maybe the guy was just weird, then when I came back to pickup my car he was writing something down so I just greeted him and said I'm here to pick up my car and he took his time to finish whatever he's doing before he even acknowledged me, then when another guy came out from the back/garage he completely adjusted his attitude to polite, total a-hole, plenty of places to go with good service and good attitude. read more

I have FINALLY found my "go to" mechanic!!! Eli's has a lifetime customer in me, as far as I am concerned! I popped in for an inspection because they were the only place open at 2:30pm on a Saturday. Sal started my inspection and had to stop because a rear light assembly was cracked. Instead of charging me an arm and a leg, he helped me find a used one, put it in, and did the inspection, all for a very reasonable price. George answered all of my questions and knows SO MUCH, but does not present in an intimidating or condescending way. Richie helped me schedule the work and I was in and out. Inspection stickers can sneak up on you (especially when you're snowed in for days and realize halfway through the month yours expired last month) so I appreciated that I could just zip by on my lunch break. A few blocks from home and my car starts making this squealing grinding noise like it's going to fall apart at any second. I had no clue what happened. I pulled into the nearest station--Eli's--and hoped they would have a chance to check it out. The mechanic stopped what he was working on and checked it out. He thought it might be something stuck between the brake pads, but couldn't be sure until he put it up on the lift. He moved it to move another car off the lift and the noise stopped. He told me to drive it around and if it was fine, head home. I drove it around the block and there was no noise, but then I got to my street and the noise came back--even worse. I went up the street back to Eli's and the mechanic said he could hear it (as did everyone within a mile radius). He worked on it while I waited in the office and played with my phone (wi-fi!). He returns about a half-hour later with a tiny, flat, pebble-shaped piece of tar, which was stuck on the brake pad. Drove my car around a few blocks and everything was cool.
