Just two salsas for a bunch of food that we got.
    Jessica O.

We love coming to Teddys a lot but this time it was different. We normally order a bunch of food from here and when we were gonna leave we notice we only got 1 salsa with our 45 dollar meal, so we asked if we can get a few more and he proceeded to just give us 1 and we are like can we get more? And apparently the manager doesn't like to give out more salsa. Like I'm sorry what!?? That's ridiculous I would get it if I just got two tacos but we had a bunch of food I would expect at least 4 salsa with this order I got. I came in at 3:20pm so I would like to know who is the manager that is giving out 1 salsa for a big order. You guys need to keep check on your managers.

Had the tacos, the ramen, the soup, and the horchata and Jamaica drinks. My stomach wasn't a fan of the food and I don't recommend eating such greasy heavy food if you don't have easy bathroom access (you've been warned) The Jamaica drink(probably spelled it wrong) was okay. Tacos were eh, more crunchy than I'd like. Horchata wasn't flavorful. Overall kinda a let down since my friend was hyping up this spot so much but it was honestly whatever. We spent like $60 for 7 tacos, ramen, soup, drinks, and I've never been more disappointed by my cost to enjoyment ratio lol. It was edible to eat but probably won't come back

    Expired salsa and expired lemons

I have previously experienced this location giving me yellow, past due lemons at least twice before. But the salsa clearly being past due draws the line for me. GROSS!!

6/17/22... deluxe platter $16.01. Bro Idk about that price with no drink and soggy tortillas.

My original review of Teddy's Red Tacos for the Downey, CA, location got moved to the Whittier page. Who did that?! I hadn't been back to Teddy's since my brother was in town in September 2020. It was always so packed. Back then Teddy's was 4 stars according to my algorithm. It hasn't been as packed like before and now I know why... Was there on 6/17/22. Got my usual "Deluxe Plate" which is now $16.01 if you pay with plastic. Deluxe Plate: taco, mulita, beef quesadilla, 8oz consome, & two tortilla chips Pay with cash to avoid the 4% surcharge to your overall bill. It's in small, bold lettering on the menu. They used to remind folks of this when they ordered, but have since quit. The birria is still good, but not my favorite in town. This time, the tortillas were all soggy. I live less than a minute away. Parking sucks sometimes. Park in the alley if you have to. MORE TIPS - Unless you ask for beef in it for a nominal fee, your consome (broth) will be vegetarian + beef quesadillas can be requested "plain" (no onions or cilantro) for picky kids - the tortillas are small, street-style sized + outdoor seating + drive-thru RATING BREAKDOWN | Food: 3 | Service: 3 | Environment: 4 | Price: 2 |

    Deluxe combo plate

The food was phenomenal, just the right amount of spice and the birria was very tender and savory. I got the deluxe combo and it is very generous of a size. The soup tastes especially better during night time visits. Will come back for sure. The service was helpful and the ambiance was clean and spacious.

Came to Teddy to see what all the hype is about . Well first and foremost the menu is rather small but to the point . You're here for the birria right so that all they offer nothing else . The tacos are on the small side but what they lack in size they make up in flavor . I had 4 tacos with cheese and. Medium consomé to go with the vampiro and a coke . The consomé was nice and hot and they give u tostadas to go with it which is a nice touch . The tacos taste was good and hot . While I can see why people like this spot it's okay not the best birria ever but decent and when you're hungry Thai would hit the spot just right . The service is okay the young ladies taking our order did smile and were kind of sharp . Other than that it's a good spot.

Food was uneatable meat had no texture like Birria nor tasted like Birria unprofessional.

    It chipped my fuckin tooth

We got there on a Friday at 12pm and when we arrived to the location, the parking was ridiculous, they do not have any parking for customers other than in a very small cul de sac which is French for a dead end. They have 1 parking spot for handicap. It is obvious that the neighboring houses complained to the city about their customers taking all the residential parking so they built a wall in the middle of the street, crazy right! Anyways, let's get into the food!!! So we got the tacos, 4 pastor and 4 asada and a horchata, came out to about $50. Pretty pricey, worth it? I don't know. The tacos were great, the asada has a char flavor and the pastor is freshly roasted and served with pineapple, the tortillas seemed to be made by hand as well and gave it that real authentic flavor. The horchata was a bit too sweet. I would recommend this place, but make sure you go when it is not busy. The staff were polite and helpful when ordering, they did not rush at all. They have 3 benches in the shade available to eat on. It is an outside dining in a clean environment.

I highly recommend the tacos, especially the carne asada and al pastor--they're the best on the menu. I've tried the quesadillas, but they weren't as tasty, and the tripitas weren't the best either. For the best experience stick with carne asada and al pastor. They have about three small tables on the side to eat, but there's no parking or restroom available. Bring hand sanitizer and be ready to park wherever you can (without causing any trouble). It's the LA area, so parking is always a challenge. But don't let that stop you from trying these tacos. Cheers!

Your favorite Yelp correspondent was in the Downey area for a medical appointment when hunger pangs happily coincided w/ my need to kill a little time for traffic to abate. The latter item would make my wife and doctor cringe because of my diabetes...So I ordered it solely for research, to give you fellow Yelpers an appraisal. My doctor and wife will be pleased to know I only sampled two bites of the flan. Tacos Gavilán features a well-provisioned self serve bar, brimming with all manner of flavorful sides. The caliber of the food is good, tho not stellar. Super moist, drenched in caramel with a bouncy, jello-like consistency. ALMOST as good as my best friend Mick's Cuban wife makes for special occasions.
