Notes: Bring your own hair dryer and bath toiletries. They are not provided. If you're a light sleeper or late sleeper, you'll hear the early morning prep from the coffee shop downstairs. The building is circa late 19th or early 20th century - - not sound proof. Consider part of the historic charm. We did. Sundays aren't an issue the coffee shop is closed.

Tecumseh absolutely charmed us, and part of the charm lay in this very nice little place (and I mean little, one apt. only available, while we were there) above the local coffee shop, owned by the same people as the coffee shop. So, locally owned, and getting in touch to book rooms has you calling the coffee shop, so don't be confused! Anyway, the price was very reasonable, and the loft was quaint, an efficiency apt with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Clean and comfortable, located on the main street and up a flight of stairs (they have one other place, a larger apt. with several bedrooms). We walked to dinner at Evans Street Station, and to the little shops up and down the strip during the afternoon. Tecumseh's quiet--if you want clubs, bars and a roulette wheel, this is not the spot for you--but if you're into the small town, quiet-getaway- experience, I highly recommend this inn. The breakfast is a $10 gift card for the full service coffee shop downstairs, which for two people can be tight, but you can use it the day before, and put your bagels and coffee in the apt. fridge, which is what we did (see caveat), or you can use the morning of, if they're open (Caveat: the coffee shop wasn't open on the Sunday we were there, and may not be open on Sundays period. Pick out breakfast foods in advance for Saturday night stays).

Because of the AA influence, it's seeing incremental, yet noticeable, increases in sophistication over time. Mind you, it does not have the affluence-driven refinement of Sedona or the themed attraction of Frankenmuth. But there's something interesting beneath the surface. There was clearly a rather large manufacturing base at one time but those factories are long gone. There are reminders that are still visible on Evans St. Empty spaces along railroad tracks show concrete remnants of former parking lots and buildings. Quaker Oats had a facility there at one time, for example. Tecumseh is representative of small town Upper Midwest America. There's not much for visitors looking for bling and excitement, but it has a lot to offer anyone looking for a low-key, relaxing day. The shops downtown continue to become more interesting over time. A favorite of mine is Boulevard Market where you can pick up cheeses, wines and other wonderful goodies that add a touch of sophistication. Hopscotch Kids is a great store for kids while J-Bar is a fun hobby store to peruse. Pentamere offers some interesting wines (try the Plum Wine). My wife likes Second Chance Consignment where she can find some decent quality stuff at good prices. There's also a seasonal Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. By the way, there's plenty of parking in the lots behind the storefronts north and south of downtown. Beyond shopping, the neighborhoods are fun to walk. The late-19th and early-20th Century architecture has largely been preserved in the three or four blocks west and south of downtown. The mature vegetation adds to a bit of that nostalgic feeling of taking a stroll through time. But none of it is staged for tourists...it's a real, lived-in, people-going-about-their-lives place. Those are fun places to observe and, if you look closely enough, you'll find those subtleties that make each place unique. The architectural highlights include The Samuel Temple House, the James McAllister House, the Musgrove Evans House and the Elijah Anderson House. As you stroll, if you want a place to rest and just "be" for a while, have a seat on a bench in quaint little Hotrum Promenade Park. If you like to be waterside, stroll north to Evans Park where you can look out over Red Millpond. Walk east from there to Standish Pond with its small dam. If you feel up to it, walk the path down to Globe Mill Pond which features its own little dam. As mentioned, there's not much in the way of touristy stuff, but the interesting little Tecumseh Historical Museum housed in a 1913 Gothic-style former church is open from April to December. It's a great place to learn a little more about Tecumseh and its surroundings. The Southern Michigan Railroad provides nostalgic train rides between Tecumseh and Clinton. It's a fun change-of-pace activity that the kids will enjoy. Probably the best attraction for outsiders is the Fall Applelumpkin Festival that transforms downtown (as well as a satellite site at Kapnick Farm) into something of a carnival. There are lots of artisan vendors, food trucks and kid's activities (including Monster Truck and Helicopter rides). As far as eating, there are more choices than might initially meet the eye. The most out-of-the-ordinary is the British Tea Pantry, where you can have Tea Time replete with finger sandwiches, or a lunch that's on the lighter side. For something more American, try the Chicago Dog House where Midwest sandwich food dominates. Basil Boys is one of the better pizza and sub places in the county. But they're low key and their dining area is strictly a convenience (explicitly self-serve...clean up after yourself). One step up in formality is Tecumseh Brewing Company where they serve pretty good pub grub. If you want a heartier meal, one of JR's three area locations is downtown. It's a good steakhouse with fair prices. Sal's on the western edge of town in Busch's Plaza is a pleasant, cozy place to get an Italian-style meal. If breakfast is what you want, City Limits Diner behind the downtown shops to the north is a great choice. And if a buffet is your style, Big Boy in Busch's Plaza still offers a decent salad bar. Musgrove is a great coffee stop downtown, while Tecumseh Bread and Pastry serves lovely treats, especially cinnamon rolls. Overall, Tecumseh is a pleasant but work-a-day town that offers a glimpse into everyday life in this area of the country. There are limited things for the tourist. It's mainly a place where spending a day means that you integrate with the local flow to experience the quotidian niceties available to residents. If you live nearby or are passing through, hang out for a few hours to see if you agree with my assessment.

To be fair there are some good points but I guess I will address those first number one the Ambiance is very nice if you like history an old architecture it's worth popping in if you are near nearby. I will also say that I am pretty critical on my coffee but it appears the coffee portion of this restaurant has its own name and I will write an extremely positive review accordingly as the coffee was some of the best I've ever had. That being said the rest of the experience was negative. We should have known something walking in when we saw what appeared to be two other local couples going to the cute little restaurant next door which looked reasonably busy and when we went in there's only one other couple there. That should have been a red flag. But it looks so quaint and Charming we wanted to try it. Her breakfast was fair but it's hard to mess up whipped cream and strawberries LOL you'd almost have to be pure evil not to like the combination LOL. My breakfast however was a disappointing experience say the least.... let me preface this with the fact that I have a pretty decent barometer 4 brisket as my buddies and I smoke brisket all the time and have been in some competitions. That being said for approximately $14 for breakfast skillet that better be some damn good brisket. And it wound up being very rubbery!!! and just taste it off like it had been sitting out forever.!!! On top of that after taking only one bite decided to send it back and the waitress could not care less and took $3 off the bill ....? basically you're telling me I ate $11 worth of Skillet after I told you to come back and have the chef taste it please!!!!!!!????? it was like it was microwaved from the previous night The sauce on it was like knock off ketchup packets or should i say katsup! Lol Rude and discourteous to say the least I'm sorry the Ambiance is great and the coffee was actually one of the best cups I ever had but to charge for food that I wouldn't even give our dogs!! just wrong and then to not even care about it no.!! We saw everyone going next door and wondered why some place so large had such little business. Now we know why all the locals were going next door and why a restaurant next to a restaurant still survives. After you eat here you will be eating next door also.

The hotel of proclaimed "limitless romance" sits awkward and unassumingly on a back road between commercial businesses. The rooms are lined buildings like windowless townhouses, almost eerie until we found our room number and pulled into our personal garage. I had been waiting months for this visit because, as expected in the Midwest, hotel rooms with personal pools can be a hot commodity so I booked WAY in advance. For a price tag of over five hundred dollars, the Grand Royal Pool Suite gave us every amenity I could've imagined; soaking tub, two person shower, plush robes, electric fire place, soft king bed, sauna and what we really drove all that way there for, our own personal, private swimming pool. During our stay at Belamere Suites we found indulgence, comfort and, as advertised, limitless romance.

The hotel is tucked away in the middle of an industrial park surrounded by semi trucks, which immediately ruined any romantic atmosphere we were hoping for. To make things even stranger, there were pieces of childlike artwork oddly placed on the outside of the buildings--nothing about it felt romantic or inviting. Inside the room, things didn't improve much. While it was clean, the rose petals placed on the bed were fake, which felt cheap and undermined the "luxury" experience they advertise. The fireplace clicked nonstop whenever we tried to use it, making it impossible to relax. The worst part of the stay was the noise. Our neighbor spent the entire evening screaming at a football game. I called the front desk to complain about the noise, and the only solution they offered was to "drive the golf cart around." The yelling stopped for about 30 minutes and then started right back up. At that point, any romantic vibe I was trying to create for our anniversary was completely gone. We were so aggravated--especially considering the extravagant price tag--that it was clear we weren't going to sleep or enjoy ourselves. We ultimately decided to leave at midnight and just go home. When I called to request some sort of reimbursement, I was offered 50% off a future stay. I honestly found that laughable--I wouldn't return even at $100 a night. This was a memorable anniversary for all the wrong reasons, and I cannot recommend Belamere Suites based on our experience.

After that they over charged my card. I saw a single desk clerk running around all morning taking care of people, answering the phone and cleaning up tables in the afternoon. She was too young to be a manager and shouldn't have been working by herself with so many people running around needing help. There was an older lady handling the food prep for the breakfast and she was pretty much alone too. I caught a glimpse of a young man walking around with a mop and bucket, but no other staff the entire morning and afternoon I was in the hotel helping my sister and nephew get their stuff packed up. Three people on staff all day long is a terrible idea. The same clerk who had been rushing around taking care of people all day got yelled at by some other lady and no one stepped up to stop that lady from tearing into the poor clerk. The clerk didn't do anything wrong and kept her cool even when that lady accused her of being lazy and not doing a good job. Poor clerk was on the verge of tears but stayed professional after that other lady stormed out with a bug up her butt. I don't know what the lady's problem was, but she had no business being that rude and demeaning to a person who was just doing her job. Why wasn't there a manager there to support that clerk and help out with so many people in the hotel? Why wasn't there a manager helping to clean up the hotel? Why aren't there more staff present throughout the day in general? If a business or service is supposed to be available 24-7, then there needs to be a manager and full staff on call 24-7 too.
