I think Tecovas in San Antonio is a very reasonable option if you want Western-style boots for everyday wear -- jeans, nights out, casual events -- with decent quality and comfortable fit, especially if you try them on in-store. If you're after heavy-duty work boots, or want boots that last decades through rough use, you might want to examine carefully or consider a more rugged/traditional bootmaker.Customer service is great! TERRIBLE customer service. My husband and I stopped in to get our second pair of boots after having the most amazing experience at their Broadway location. This location was horrible. The two white gentlemen didn't greet us at all. Didn't even look our way. Literally just stood there in the boot section staring straight forward. Almost avoiding eye contact. We were the ONLY couple in the store. Had to ask for help. And he was sooo visibly upset that he had to help us. They brought our boots in the size we asked for and never heard from them again. Didn't ask how they fit or if we liked them. Didn't offer us a drink. Nothing. The boots my husband received to try on looked like they have been worn heavily before. Extremely creased and scuffed at the bottom. When we brought it up to him he said 'that's just how they come'. My husband did ask to see a new pair in the same size and those looked brand new. We are spending. $300+ on boots we obviously expect them to be of good quality. My husband did end up purchasing them because it was his intention to do so. The only up side was the long haired Hispanic male checking us out. He was so sweet and was a redemption! I honestly think they should send in some of their Broadway employees to teach them a lesson on customer service or have the La Cantera employees shadow that location for a day. It is literally night and day for customer service!! Avoid this location and head to Broadway. You will have an amazing experience there!!! read more

Young lady, I was speaking with was very nice but she had no clue about her products and the ordering process and I needed a pair of work boots right now, which they first started carrying composite squared toe, so I wanted to give them a shot after wearing red wing and ariat for years They didn't have my size in stock so they wanted me to pay for it before they could order it I asked her can you order these boots to your store and I'll come in and have you my take of my Tecovas ostrich and have them conditioned while I try on these and she said no you will have to order those to your house. I just love the smell of this place! This boot shop and leather goods shop has some sharp looking boots! You can kick up your heels after visiting this place, and knock some boots! These boots have the main kind of theme about them, a conservative look without any wild designs or crazy colors. Everything is pretty natural and neutral. For every set of boots, they've got a few matching belts, and of course the belt buckles so you can be all blinged out next time you're cuttin' a rug with those boots on! They've got the rounded toe styles, and the cockaroach stompin' pointy toed ones, but nothing where you just stop and gasp- it's a much more laid back look. They also sell t-shirts all around a western theme, and other western bling, like leather wallets. The service was attentive, although I didn't get much of anything (this time!) I'll be back! My favorite thing about this shop is the giant quilt-work mosaic picture of the Alamo in the back. read more

I recently received a gift card to Tecovas and was excited to check out the store for a new pair of boots. When I arrived, I was the only customer in the store and I told the girl working I had a gift card and had already researched on their site what I wanted. She was quick to bring out the size I thought I might be. The first pair I tried fit good in length and width but the heel slip was too much. Her solution was to try a less wide pair, which didn't work and then a completely different style than what I wanted. After trying on 3 pairs, one of which I didn't even want, she was stumped and brought a coworker out from the back to assist. Once he arrived, she left and never came back, his solution was to try another size and then suggested I get in-soles, which they don't sell, to make them fit better. The idea of spending $300-400 for boots that don't fit and would require me to buy in-soles in hopes of improving the fit does not sound like a good idea. When I told the sales guy, who I think was a manager, I'll wait on making a purchase, it didn't seem to faze him. I was fully prepared to spend $200-300 on top of the gift card and walked out of the store empty handed and frustrated. I'll likely just use my gift card for a belt or socks online since the buying experience in-store was so poor. read more

Soles coming apart after only 6 months. Store manager who is also the area manager says they have plenty of life and just need to be resoled. Tecovas is an amazing company!!! I can't say enough good things...If you are at LaCantera, or bear any of their stores, you have to stop in...they are like family. There have couches and they'll make you a drink; yes, even an adult beverage! They will make sure you get the right size boots and leave with a smile! I ordered online and returned to store no problem as their service is outstanding either way. My first pair of boots was by Tecovas and they have secured a patron for life. Great store. I had actually been to the Austin store a few days earlier and it was slammed busy. This place was really relaxed and all the employees were really friendly. Sadly, they didn't have the jeans I wanted or the boots I wanted available in my size, but the staff was helpful and apologetic about it. They gave me a drink and I got some socks I had been needing. My family and I bought 3 pairs of Tecovas boots at the La Cantera store yesterday from Mike G. I will not reveal his last name to respect his privacy. But I will tell you he is a superb associate. I researched best places to buy handmade boots in San Antonio. I researched this for several hours. I read the reviews. I was not disappointed at my choice. And the service from Mike G was impeccable. I agree, there is no substitute for getting fit for a custom pair of handmade boots, but this comes at a very high. I am totally satisfied with the quality of the handmade boots I purchased yesterday, and the value is terrific. My family feels the same regarding their boots. And Mike G was fabulous.
