I was very far away from where he was and he already had clients on the books for the day but he was still determined to help. He told me to call road side assistance and get a jump then call him when I got to Advanced Auto Parts. He told me to get my battery, starter and alternator checked. I did that. The tech was telling me to take it to the dealership because I had a short somewhere. When I called Sam, he spoke to the tech to get all the numerical data. The tests were saying everything was normal but Sam said I had a dead cell in my battery because the numbers were too high. He said I just needed a new battery....he was right. I purchased a battery and was on my way. Absolutely amazed at his expertise OVER THE PHONE. For him to help me and not make 1 dime off of me says a lot about his character. Update! Kevin contacted me, via text after reading the…read morereview, asking that I take the review down and allow him an opportunity to come back out and look at the vehicle, free of charge. Kevin shared that he was at risk of losing his job and was a lead tech, although listed as the owner. 'Management' also contacted and asked that I take the review down and offered to refund the labor. At this point (2 days later) I had already taken the vehicle to the Toyota dealer, as his 'management' advised the vehicle was complex and initially declined looking at the vehicle without another charge. Toyota Diagnosis: improper fitting and installed spark plugs. Cost: 98$ inspection- which was deducted from repair cost. Repair cost total, including one day vehicle rental, 468.79$. I reached back out to Kevin and 'Management', via text and email, three consecutive days- excluding Sunday, explaining the outcome and requesting a partial refund (spark plugs, diagnosis, and labor). I have not received a response and am now seeking civil action. Receipts attached. Again, the purpose of this review is to bring awareness.

2011 BMW 335i e93…read more Paid $1,300+ for a repair just for him to break my clip to the fuel rail, pop off the tips/tops to my brand new $1200 coil packs, left the ignition coils unplugged and said it wouldn't start. Kevin was supposed to replace my valve cover, MAF sensor, coolant hose, Fuel Sensor B, Air intake temp sensor, and Fuel regulator. This was all supposed to fix my minor misfire problem. I wasn't able to be there for the main repair bc i had work but he had called me and told me that he couldn't start the car but everything was good, and that it was bc the battery was dead/dying. Naturally i believed him bc my car had been sitting for a while, when i had went to check on the car the day after ready to jump it the car wouldn't turn over like it would before, i told him about this initially and he said that he would come back and check on his work. He never did. But upon further inspection i found several things wrong: The bottom 2 coil packs weren't in or seated properly (when taking them out the tips/tops weren't even connected) and the connector that goes to my fuel rail had been broken. These are just the things that I had noticed off rip, so only God knows how extensive the damage really is. After I noticed all of this I brought it to his attention by calling/texting him but he wouldn't respond- when usually he would answer almost right away. Today I tried contacting him again only to find out that my number had been blocked. This has ultimately been a waste of time and a huge waste of money whereas now i have to spend even more on a wiring harness or figure out how to or even IF i can solder a new connector on, buy new coil packs, etc. on top of already spending a good amount of money on a failed and botched repair. If you want my advice, the best choice is usually the hardest one.. don't look for mobile mechanics, or mechanics who don't own an actual shop or any "do-it-yourself"ers. Just take your car to an actual shop where you can get it properly and professionally looked at. You're gonna have to spend a lot of money anyways, so you might as we do it right the first time around rather than hop scotching to different mechanics and ppl. I just wish i would've known this sooner, don't be stubborn or a penny pincher, bc pennie's pinch back and when they do it's gonna hurt like ab.

Several weeks ago I came in for an oil change and knew their was a problem with my exhaust system. Jay showed me the exhaust problem (corrosion and rust) and told me that he didn't do that kind of work and I needed to go to a muffler/exhaust place. Jay was thorough and efficient. I actually thought that his price was rather low and told him. I asked if I could give him a tip and he refused so I gave him a hug instead. I will gladly go back if I need a car repair

Because this is 1950, eye roll.. Jay is the real deal. Yes, Apna Garage is a modest shop tucked away behind a gas station. But how many mechanics have a legit 5 star Yelp rating? I'll wait.. The reason is because no-one is as honest, humble or as kind as Jay is. You can drop off your car which is very convenient. Jay diagnosed mine and explained everything in plain English without being patronizing. He's very responsive to messages, gave an honest assessment and didn't try to overcharge or upsell me. Apparently, they did not secure a hose well enough, and when it came loose, my engine's intake was filled with anti-freeze. I noticed that one of the workstations in the garage had an open Budweiser sitting out. Maybe that's why they couldn't clamp a hose down right? Adding insult to injury, the mechanic was rude to me in every interaction. It felt like he resented me before he ever even met me. I was paying with a credit card, so I had to go through this poorly lit and grungy room. While in there, the mechanic kept making statements that ended with, "You know how females are." So if you're a woman, you may want to go somewhere else. It seems like they'll peg you as a sucker.
