The representative explained what would happen to the electronics and if any data was stored, it would be erased and they could not be responsible. City of Aurora, along with TechnoRescue, hosted a very popular e-cycle event and it was the easiest drop off ever! No long lines, just walk in, show your ID and pay for the "for fee" items. The employees will grab the items and you are on your way. The folks at TechnoRescue were very friendly and didn't bat an eye at all the "techno trash" I had. Two desktop printers, circa 2010, a laptop with docking station, an old modem, two monitors, and a very old phone answering machine (circa 1988 maybe). My dad's CPU had an error with the hard drive, which I initially took to repair to Techno Rescue after "Requesting a Quote" through Yelp. Fast response service from owner Rhonda regarding the quote. I went, they had me pay the diagnostic fee of $40 on a Friday up front and told me it would take "a day or two" to complete diagnostic (business days). No problem. After 2 full business days (so now it's Weds) with no word, I called in to Leanna (front desk). She said they had a tech out but that he was back, would be working on this and should be done by EOD Weds or Thursday EOD. But that they would call me with an update. Another 2 days pass, no word, I call in Friday to see what the update is, they said "hopefully EOD but we will give you an update." I let them know if it wasn't done, since it had been a week, I would need the computer back. They didn't call, so I didn't call, just drove over to pick up the computer. Leanna informed me that there was no update, some slight idea that it had "started" to get worked on but no diagnostic to share. Then, she stated that even though the service wasn't rendered after a week of waiting, the $40 diagnostic fee was non-refundable. She said I could speak to a manager on Monday. Over the weekend, I reached out through Yelp messages to Rhonda who was very quick and friendly in resolving my concerns. I was offered a refund for the diagnostic, free diagnostic for the trouble and an offer on service - told me I could speak to Barbara about all of it and that I'd have a tech specialist assigned. I thanked her for the offer, but did not want to take her up on it- just called in to the manager Barbara for my refund. She was quick on the phone, refunded my card. Pretty awful service, I gotta say, about 1 star. I'm giving 3 stars because they eventually tried to make it right by giving me my money back and giving me an offer to try to get me to stay, but a week had already gone by of this. On the plus side, I went with another Request Quote from Yelp to Absolute Computer Solutions on County Line on Tuesday although it was a further drive and $20 more for a diagnostic. They had an idea already when messaging on Yelp. I went in, David (one of the owners - good sign right off the bat) greeted me and checked me in. They explained that they would not charge me upfront, only once they determined diagnostic (!) and then later would apply it towards my repair too. They called me the next day with the diagnostic (failed hard drive), then took 1 more day to repair (installing new hard drive). I had my computer back in my house in working condition by Thursday midday! Highly recommend ACS - great communication from Eric and David. They definitely made me feel like a priority from the moment I came in, no, from when I requested the quote. read more

These guys have worked on my laptop three times for the same problem... and it's still broken. i brought it in with a broken DC jack. I bought a replacement part, thinking I would do the repair myself. When I decided I would rather have a pro do the job, I called Techno Rescue. Dropped off the computer and replacement part. Was told, when they tried to charge me well over the quoted price, that they didn't need the replacement part, they had just re-soldered the old one. Got home before I realized they had kept the part I provided. Within weeks it was broken again. I called, they offered to repair it again at a "deeply discounted rate." I paid for the repair again, and again the fix did not last more than a few weeks. Called a third time and was told that this particular repair just doesn't last, but to just bring it in and it would be fixed free of charge. My laptop was returned to me with 3 cracks in the case where they forced the cover back on and one of the hinge covers cracked and the other missing a screw. And the power jack is not working again. I refuse to take it back to Techno Rescue again, so it's been shelved for several months. I finally decided to fix it myself and in opening up the machine today, I have found several more missing screws inside. The guys are very friendly, I'll give them that! But I wouldn't trust them to repair any more of my computer equipment! read more
