Wow! I am wiped out from a trial boxing workout. The entire experience was worth the sweat- I loved the high energy of the instructor and class. I have not sweat this much in ages but I feel amazing and accomplished. read more

So I came to Team Octopus as a visitor so have no idea about their billing practice or anything about things relating to it and my review is purely based on my visit here as an outsider. I felt welcomed as soon as I came in. I loved how clean the facilities were and the amenities. The gym has a solid women's team and the competition training is top notch. I was beat after class, we did like 12 rounds that were 3 minute long with 30 second rest in between. I was exhausted by then and apparently this is an easy day for them. Overall it was a good experience and the class is run by an amazing coral belt which I have never seen before so that's amazing to see! read more

My husband got hurt which isnt the gyms fault but he froze his membership and cancelled during the freeze...One year later they took his to claims for a one month payment. He spoke to a few people both at corporate and the claims people explaining. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES - DO NOT SIGN UP read more

This most unprofessional, predatory business practices that I've ever seen. Worse than a used car dealership. There are plenty of other great gyms in the area - stay away! I've attached a copy of their "contract" since they don't show it you before joining. They rush you into signing on a digital keypad and don't even explain what the terms actually are. Ask about the annual fee, enrollment fee, and 60-day cancellation notice. The text that they are required to include by law is in tiny font and the refund policy is buried on page 2. Their "agreement" isn't even consistent with Georgia state law. I cancelled within 7 days which, according to the State of Georgia, entitles me to a full-refund (https://consumer.georgia.gov/business-services/health-spas-fitness-centers). They are still refusing to grant this refund. I've had to waste countless hours trying to resolve this, including reaching out to the Consumer Protection Division and the Atlanta Police. Save yourself the headache and avoid this place... read more

Amazing place with a legendary coral belt instructor. They welcomed me in as I was visiting from out of town and I had a great training session. Thank you Professor Traven! read more

Great concept, very unethical business practices. I wish I could have stayed as it seems it would have been a great way to get in shape and join a community, but it's not worth it. They'll start you off with $180/month but have a clause in the contract that gives them the right to charge you $1000/month without your consent. That is ridiculous! I called to get this situation rectified and to get this clause out of the contact (that I didn't even know I was signing bc they generate a signature to contracts without your consent), but the owner never responded. I guess he was hoping he'd get away with it!! Shameful!!! Also, it's ALL locations that are owned by the same guy. Not just the Sandy Springs location. AVOID THEM ALL!!! read more

Team Octopus Midtown - Kickboxing Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

I am a boxer and martial artist with 36 years of experience. I've worked out in gyms from Colorado Springs to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have been training at Team Octopus Midtown for 4 months. From the moment you're greeted by the front staff until you're on the way out after two hard hours of working out, you feel welcomed. The owners, coaches, and team members are professional and friendly, and it's one of the cleanest gyms I've ever been a member of. Team Octopus has all the equipment a beginner needs to train on loan. And experienced fighters / aerobic kick boxers will surely be pleased with the variety and condition of available equipment as well as the flexible operating hours. The jiu jitsu professors are not only amazing talents, but they also have the ability to teach techniques in different ways for different students. Everyone who enters these doors is privileged to have an abundance of knowledge willingly at their disposal. I highly recommend Team Octopus Midtown for both beginners and seasoned combat sport athletes. read more

Although you do get the value for the workout when attending the gym and the trainers are amazing. My issue is after covid hit you all reduced my fee down as I asked for it to then automatically started charging me the high $99 rate again. I have emailed your gmail account yet the person has stopped responding and has not put in to stop my charges. You charged my card unauthorized this month as I asked you in February to STOP charging men and refund my money. SMH I signed up at your Sandy Springs location! BTW there are enough reviews I am finding online about your predatory billing practices to file a nice complaint with the CFPB. Just an FYI I work in both data and collections, so lets play! read more

I've been there for the fist time yesterday and even though I usually work out with machines I got a good workout in. You have more than enough Barbells, weight to load and Dumbbells to work out. The mood in there was very nice and gave me motivation to push harder. I would recommend this gym for people who are doing fight sports or powerlifting, but also for everyone who wants to try a new place to work out. Tye employee are very friendly and helpful. However all its an really good place to work out where everyone feels welcome. read more

Buyer beware! I tried to cancel my membership due to moving and they never returned my call to cancel the membership. When I called back again, they pointed me to the legal document that i was supposed to recall and present. Interestingly, the only way to cancel is via a very specific email address that is not, by the way, on their website. As a result I am on the hook for two more months of membership plus their annual upgrade fee ($$240). Please, please, read this review and think before joining this gym. There are so many other options in midtown. I have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years so I have nothing to gain but letting the truth be known to my neighbors. read more

Great gym with great people. Wonderful place to exercise. Definitely recommend. Did the cross fit

Since Team Octopus offers one free class, I opted to try out their kickboxing class on a weekday. I'm a total beginner and ultimately felt pretty out of place here. I feel like Team Octopus is more for the already experienced and professionally trained. I really wanted to start with and learn the basics, but instead, I was thrown into more difficult exercises that were too much for me to learn all at once. Sadly, I don't think I found my fitness family here. read more

I briefly attended Team Octopus as a part of the six-week challenge promotion. I decided after that after a few days, the gym wasn't for me. The facility itself was okay and parking is definitely a challenge. I wouldn't recommend this place and definitely will not be coming back. Even though I canceled within the 7 day window, the staff has made it challenging to cancel my membership. Combine that with pushy sales tactics and I think that this place is a recipe for disaster. read more

All I'm going to say is 28 day challenge is a scam. Trust the reviews, and don't waste your time. You'd hope it was true, but, as the quote goes, "nothing comes for free" read more

THE CHALLENGES ARE SCAMS: I signed up for a "FREE" challenge with Team Octopus Midtown before I read the reviews on Facebook. The company advertises free fitness challenges for a certain period of time. I didn't think this was sketchy because business use this technique to build clientele. Once I read the reviews, others were saying that it is a SCAM. You attend an orientation session and they explain the program and facility and then asks you to sign a contract and you PAY for it. That is false marketing. I then proceeded by calling the facility and the person on the phone was really rude. He hung the phone up on me and had an attitude when I canceled the appointment because I didn't sign up for the session to be hoodwinked. The company show advertise it as a free CONSULTATION not challenge very misleading. My friend later called to cancel the appointment and the person did not even ask for information. Business should not mislead their future customers and then become angry when people don't want to participate. read more

I tried to cancel my membership since I moved away, they kept charging me anyway. When I sent management (Koon specifically) emails documenting my request to quit, Koon literally accused me of making the whole thing up!! They will not let me quit. I'm absolutely furious. I would have come back one day but they are doing everything they can do to rob me right now. Do not go to this gym. read more

I have trained at other places and in terms of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, this was the most unprofessional, irresponsible and UNSAFE place I have been to. Don't train here if you want quality instruction or want to stay healthy enough to learn anything substantial. I went in for ONE class and was SERIOUSLY INJURED. I know accidents happen, it's apart of training and I fully accept that. However, how it happened and how it was handled was appalling. In terms of quality, there was nothing special, the bare minimum. It was a lot of warm up drills, a lot of sprawling down a giant mat (the size of the room was the only good thing, their facility looks good. But a nice room doesn't equal good training). After a ton of aerobics, the professor taught us one escape, which was not a very effective one that most people would use often. I thought it was going to build to some counter move that was better, but to my surprise, that was it for instruction (which was like 5 minutes total). We then just practiced with our partners a few times, and then went straight into sparring. It was lazy instructing, the professor was barely standing the entire class, just sat on the wall and watched. It was during sparring where I got injured. Being my first day back in training, I specifically told my partner that I was winded and was not going to go 100%. He acknowledged and then immediately picked me up in the air and threw me down landing on top of my rib cage with a sharp shoulder. I don't know if he was insecure about his size, we were the same height, he was skinnier, but it was very unnecessary. All of his weight came down on my rib/sternum, concentrated in one point which was his boney shoulder. I got the wind knocked out of me and couldn't get up for a long while. All I hear from across the large room, the professor simply said: "illegal throw". Didn't come over to talk to me, or to my partner about how to proceed in the future. I couldn't do anything but lay there for the rest of class. It felt like the ribs were jabbing at my lung and was difficult to breathe. I calmed myself down and got up at the end of class. I spoke to my opponent that was I was really unhappy about what he did, and he apologized. I accepted the apology, but I added that he should put himself in my position, an apology doesn't change impact. Nobody wants to be the one who has to sit out of training for months because people don't want to practice / roll in a respectful way. Knowing that was an ego move from a young guy, I was upset but it was nothing new. What really alarmed me was the reaction of the professor. At the end of class, I went up to the professor to thank him for class like I always do, everywhere. He turned around long enough to say "thx, that was an illegal throw". He couldn't turn back quick enough to continue telling one of his glory stories to some other students, which from the look on their faces, didn't look like they were really interested in the long tale but also didn't want to leave out of respect. It was sad. In any studio, the teacher/professor sets the tone. And the best ones make sure its an atmosphere of being present in your practice and mutual respect for your training partners that bring you further along, which are apart of any martial art. As the head professor of Team Octopus, if that's how you run things, what can you expect? No quality instruction, no attention to detail, not even walking around to correct ppl, no control over wild behavior of students that come in = dangerous. If you're training to compete, don't expect any quality attention. And if you're new, be extra weary because you could likely end up in the hospital like I did. You might be thinking, maybe this guy just get injured easy, nope! I'm a carpenter by trade, motorcycle enthusiast, and I don't cry easy. I have survived countless things, including getting hit by a car on a bicycle full speed impact, and have made miraculous recoveries. It has been 4 months since this happened and I still cannot put any weight on the right side of my chest, not even a person lightly laying on top of that spot. For a week, I couldn't move, coughing/sneezing were agonizingly painful. It felt like my rib was shifting back and forth causing severe pain in my chest and also the same spot in my back. I called in today and got a half hearted apology, with "accidents happen", "I wish you called in earlier" and "we don't do refunds." I paid for a month and trained for one day and they can clearly see that from their fancy log in system. If you just want a soulless gym that has a ton of heavy bags you can kick in a haphazard way, then go for it. But if you want to work out, train your body with intention, learn some actual technique and avoid injury, look elsewhere! read more

I was visiting from out of town and the entire team was very welcoming. When I come back to Atl I will 100% be stoping by again. Top notch BJJ training. read more

I've trained at multiple BJJ gyms in Atlanta over the last few years and this one is the one I call home. I'd say it is the best competitive gi bjj gym in Atlanta though there are better ones for those aspiring to do no-gi/mma. It is the headquarters of a larger bjj organization which is another plus, because it makes it possible to cross train at other gyms and get to know a larger team. Professor Traven will go out of his way for his students. The atmosphere may be intimidating at first but once you get into it you'll see how nice everyone is. read more

Best place to workout! Great atmosphere. Trainers really push you in achieving your fitness goals!

I tried Saturday morning kickboxing. It was my first time, and I was able to follow along. The instructor came over to help me when I was lost. He was quite energetic, and would really push people. My friend and I were new and so he went a little easier on us. Definitely a good class for people who want to be fit and push themselves a little. I used rental gloves and wraps and it seemed fine. read more

I have been training for close to 15 years and this is my third academy over that period. I have been with Professor Traven going on six years. I train in Charlotte under an affiliate school. I have never had an instructor who not only takes my development as a jiu jitsu practitioner seriously, but take my personal growth as a human being just as serious. He has gone far and above the teacher-student relationship, to the point he is one of my closest friends. Leadership by example, how many other high ranking black belts compete? For that matter, how many high level black belts even roll with their students? I have been to all the Team Octopus academies and they are all very clean, modern equipment and top notch instruction. The people are open and 100% selfless. The Midtown location is the newest, and really a show case academy. If you are looking to start a journey down the jiu jitsu path, the easiest way to figure out where you want to go is to visit them and ask for a trial period. You will quickly figure out that the Traven team is family and that every single person would bend over backwards for you and give you their proverbial "gi" off their back. You know you found a home. Start today, I hope to see you on the mats someday! read more

Would love this gym ten times more if they had less creepy guys attending the classes.

The best place by far to train bjj and kickboxing!! Very good staff, everyone is so helpful. Location is perfect also!!

Terrible business ethics! Advertised a free 6 week challenge and of course when I get there they are asking for money. I paid and was advised to cancel by email at any time. I cancel via email and they still charge my account. At that point I advised my bank not to honor anymore payments from them. They continue to try and charge my account and then contact me saying I am two months past due. I forwarded them the email and the lady says she will get it cleared up for me. But of course she did not. Instead i get an email saying her supervisor would not allow it and I could clear up the balance that day. Unbelievable! read more

My happy Place! Anna S. is awesome and an engaged coach! It's a workout that disciplines and inspires! Thank you Team Octopus!

ABSOLUTE WORST! Signed up on ClassPass with a friend and when we got there, no one was at the desk and the trainer looked at us but walked into the training area. So we waited for about 5 minutes, there was another girl that had been there for 10 minutes she said and finally my friend decided to go find the one and only staff member who was the RUDEST person ever. He told her there wasn't a front desk person today and she said ok and he replied "do you still want to stay?" I'm sorry but WTF. She said yes since we had signed up and were already there and then told him I needed to rent gloves and wraps and he got an attitude about that and I honestly wanted to leave but then he yells "yo if you want gloves come on" So I get the gloves which I'm still confused as to why there's no wrap since it said in the description and there's a sign at the desk that says gloves and wrap can be rented. We get in the class and the instructor doesn't say a word to us the entire time. I had never done kickboxing before so had no clue if my form or anything was correct. He never came around to correct us or offer tips. Thankfully my friend gave some guidance but I didn't learn anything from that class except that I definitely will not be going back. So rude, uninviting, and unprofessional. read more

First day trying it out . Great atmosphere the kickboxing instructor was great ! Will definitely comeback !

Please SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! I paid about $400 to participate in a challenge however I asked if I could put this on hold due to my brother took a nasty fall and was in ICU or use this money toward some classes when I return from memphis... i took a leave from my job to be with my family... As today no one would ever return my call or each time I stopped in nobody had time to deal with me and kept telling me to email and I did but no response... The staff changes every week and i wonder why? I just recently spoke with an Attroney regarding this... could have been really simple and just allow me to use that money toward classes and not just throw it away or heck just return my phone call or email... Will I recommend this place NO and think twice before the commitment... So sorry that we could not form a business relationship... A bad way of running a business... I had to rate to leave a review but I give this place NO stars!!! read more
