I tried a few different places to start training BJJ. I chose this place for a few reason. 1)…read moreEveryone in the class from the instructor to fellow students are awesome and very helpful. 2) They've got a lot of different classes if I want to try anything else. At the moment it's just bjj but I can see myself taking a few others just to try them out. 3) They have a number of different bjj classes for varying skill levels. 4) The place is small enough to feel like a local gym but large enough to attract a diverse group of folks. Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.

This review is for the no-gi class taught by Mohammad. I'm an out of towner that came in to drop-in…read morefor two classes while visiting. Having trained at multiple gyms in New York and now in San Francisco over the last 5 years, I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Tsunami, but I was pleasantly surprised! First, the gym/mats/locker rooms are all clean and in great shape (just to get that out of the way). The class size was around 12-15 students and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Mohammad is an active and accomplished competitive grappler, and as such, he is the exact type of instructor that you would want to learn from if you're trying to progress rapidly in this sport. He observes all his students and takes time to give everyone something they can adjust or work on to improve their game. It's a testament to his character and the kind of instructor he is that he would take the time to watch me roll and give me personalized advice while knowing that there was no chance of me becoming a regular student in his class. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing 100% and genuinely wants to help you improve. I rolled with a few of the other students and after chatting with them afterwards, I was consistently surprised by how little they said they've trained because they were honestly some of the most well-rounded 'beginners' I've come across. Solid students, solid class, solid instructor, and everyone trained safely. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my home gym.

I love iLoveKickboxing. Say what you want about the cheesy name, ILKB is one of the best workouts…read moreI've ever found. I've been part of ILKB gyms in both New York and Houston, so when I first moved here, I lamely tried out a few gyms before deciding it might be worth it to drive half an hour to Sandy Springs. The workouts here are NOT. NOT. NOT. easy. In fact, it's rare that I ever leave a class here without being drenched in sweat. But I've also never seen a gym that allows me to have such a good time while doing it. Classes are organized into three main parts - a fifteen-minute warm up, bag rounds, and then finishing exercises at the end. The starting warm up is much like a HIIT session (high-intensity interval training), with exercises that get your body warmed up and your heart pumping. The bag rounds are my favorite part, with tons of kicking and punching that release tons of energy and aggression while toning all associated limbs. I especially appreciate that the bags here are softer than the hanging bags you'll find in most boxing or kickboxing gyms. The slight squash to the standing bags are helpful for absorbing some of the blows so that I don't leave with bruises like I would at other boxing gyms. The coaches here are amazing. I've met several of them in my first week here, and they're all full of energy and friendly to boot. They're good about circling around during bag rounds to help with tips, form, or just plain old encouragement. Of all the iLKB gyms I've joined, this one has the most accommodating schedule. They're open seven days a week, with generous class times sprinkled throughout the day, so that there's likely a time for everyone. It's important to note that much of the poor reviews for ILKB centers around franchise-related structures. Like any other gym, they will have promotions that get you into the door, and they'll have a sit-down with you to go over membership options. I took my first classes through such a promotion, and found that the trainers here were more than willing to hear out my circumstances and find me a class package that fits my needs.

Stephanie and Wes are absolutely awesome! Yo what the heck! I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews on here!…read more From a huge gym hater, I have definitely been converted again. I started using ClassPass a couple of months ago after being convinced by a friend -- she knew I needed motivation and pushed me to try it out. I have two more months to go on ClassPass (they do have a monthly membership but I signed up for 3 months on a special deal). I didn't REALLY get motivated until I tried out FTF Join The Circuit class taught by Stephanie! I'm so mad that I didn't discover this place before! I plan on actually joining the club! This is something I can see myself doing long-term and staying consistent with. I don't even mind the drive -- I live in Lilburn. I love the high intensity/circuit workouts. I push myself to get better each class and the instructors including Stephanie are so welcoming each time and really make you feel comfortable. My goal is to get better at kicking the bag without potentially breaking my leg, foot, or ankle and being able to conquer the workouts without stopping to take breaks (unless it's a break between the circuits). Definitely check this place out! They offer a couple of free classes to try. You won't regret it!
