Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.

Having trained at multiple gyms in New York and now in San Francisco over the last 5 years, I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Tsunami, but I was pleasantly surprised! First, the gym/mats/locker rooms are all clean and in great shape (just to get that out of the way). The class size was around 12-15 students and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Mohammad is an active and accomplished competitive grappler, and as such, he is the exact type of instructor that you would want to learn from if you're trying to progress rapidly in this sport. He observes all his students and takes time to give everyone something they can adjust or work on to improve their game. It's a testament to his character and the kind of instructor he is that he would take the time to watch me roll and give me personalized advice while knowing that there was no chance of me becoming a regular student in his class. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing 100% and genuinely wants to help you improve. I rolled with a few of the other students and after chatting with them afterwards, I was consistently surprised by how little they said they've trained because they were honestly some of the most well-rounded 'beginners' I've come across. Solid students, solid class, solid instructor, and everyone trained safely. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my home gym.

I didn't realize how easy it is to just freeze up and do nothing when someone tries to hurt you, so I think this is a great class to learn basic street fighting. I'm a petite lady and I always worry that a bigger person will try to attack me and I won't be able to fight back, but I think if I continue to take krav maga classes I will gain the muscle memory and strength to defend myself. I've taken kick boxing class and it's great for cardio and strength training but you're always punching an inanimate object (sand bag) so it doesn't put you in the mindset of being attacked by someone. When I took my krav maga class I was already learning how to fight one on one with another person and it forced me to think quick on my feet and attack back. Also, I had my first class with Morgan and she is super awesome! Very informative and her demonstrations make it easy to learn when it's your first time. She also makes it very fun. There's a groupon for this class and they also offer a free first time try out!

I am traveling for year, and I needed to learn some useful real life street self defense. I am so glad to have found this place. The classes are fairly small, which lets you get a more personal training. All of the trainers are super awesome (shout out to Morgan!) The best thing about to fit to fight krav maga classes is that it's pretty comprehensive. I heard other classes teaches you techniques, per level. Hence, you will be doing level 1 before you can proceed to getting your hands on to some much more advance self defense ie. Knife defense or gun defense. Hence, you will be doing fighting stances for a while. But here, they teach you the basics, and then also lets you experience various advance techniques. They will ask you "what do you feel like learning today?" And you can tell them, and they can plan for it. Maybe you will get to learn that technique you suggested that day, and if not, they will try to do it the next time. Granted, you will not master these advance techniques right away of course, but at least, they gave you the knowledge to do it. You end up getting better at it, when they go over that same technique on classes later on. So it's a cycle. By doing this, I was able to cover a lot of useful real life self defense skills, and I only had 4-5wks of training before I left. A few examples include: gun defense, knife defense, what to do when you are being hostage (with gun or knife), get someone off of you, etc. Krav maga is awesome. A very useful self defense and a real work out too. If I come back to Atlanta, I am definitely coming here again. I do miss this place!

I used to do CYC classes until they closed and now I go to workout at 5am a few times a week and hit that awesome sauna they have. However sometimes you can catch celebs in the gym working out. :) There are tons of equipment and many different machines, but depending on what time you go you may end up elbow to elbow with the hot guy that jogs to the gym or the grumpy person that hates mornings. Either way if you go to forum you're bound to make some new friends and connect with people. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. I would prefer to workout at 8 or 9 since I don't work until 11am but the traffic in the gym is horrible around that time, so I'll stick with my 5am workout. It is always dark and usually all of the freaking gates to parking are closed so you have to come around the front and enter that way. While the gym is pretty decent for the most part: lots of machines, spread-out, saunas, lockers, etc...much of the place looked kind of rundown. So many areas were undergoing construction. In the gym AND the locker rooms. It looks like a really nice gym upon first glance, but it's fairly rundown inside. I arrived close to 6, and then close to 7, a worker tapped my shoulder and told me they close at 7. Upon arriving for the first time, this same worker didn't tell me what time the club closed at all. While he did give me a tour of the place and told me about the gym, he forgot to mention the important detail that it closed at 7. Regardless, I still had a pretty good workout. If they could just do some cleanup and renovate a little quicker, I would've given this review 1-2 more stars. But until the fix the fact that this placed looks rundown and beat-up inside, it will stay 3 stars. There is plenty of parking in front of the club which is nice. It's also free. It's attached to Lenox Mall, so plenty of parking. I don't know if I would come back until renovations were complete.
