Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.

Having trained at multiple gyms in New York and now in San Francisco over the last 5 years, I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Tsunami, but I was pleasantly surprised! First, the gym/mats/locker rooms are all clean and in great shape (just to get that out of the way). The class size was around 12-15 students and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Mohammad is an active and accomplished competitive grappler, and as such, he is the exact type of instructor that you would want to learn from if you're trying to progress rapidly in this sport. He observes all his students and takes time to give everyone something they can adjust or work on to improve their game. It's a testament to his character and the kind of instructor he is that he would take the time to watch me roll and give me personalized advice while knowing that there was no chance of me becoming a regular student in his class. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing 100% and genuinely wants to help you improve. I rolled with a few of the other students and after chatting with them afterwards, I was consistently surprised by how little they said they've trained because they were honestly some of the most well-rounded 'beginners' I've come across. Solid students, solid class, solid instructor, and everyone trained safely. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my home gym.

Unfortunately, no voicemail was left. Anyway, I followed up by email to let them know that I was still interested in training at their gym and to take a trial Muay Thai class. I specifically requested the Tuesday evening 5:30 p.m. class because it is for beginners so it covers the fundamentals. Alex Caruso texted me earlier this evening about setting up my "First Day Experience". Then, I was told I could come to the gym for a "tour", but I would not be allowed to participate because the class was "full" (I guess the other Tuesday evening classes were full as well). I explained that I had reached out two days earlier to reserve a spot and asked what the class capacity was and how many people were actually enrolled so I could better understand the situation. I never received a response that addressed those questions. As a prospective customer, I wasn't interested in driving across town simply to look around the facility. I wanted to experience the coaching, the class atmosphere, and the training before deciding whether to join. Instead, I was told to come back another day... I gave the gym an opportunity to communicate and address my concerns before writing this review, but that did not happen. Based on how this was handled, I guess I will just take my business elsewhere. I hope the gym will consider improving its communication with prospective members so future customers don't have a similar experience. Update: Following the gym owner's lengthy reply (please see below): Thank you for taking the time to respond! I have no interest in arguing or engaging in personal attacks, so I'll simply clarify my original concern. My issue was never that I was "entitled" to a spot in a full class. I fully understand that classes reach capacity, and I respect that. My concern was the significant delay in responding to my initial inquiry. By the time I received a reply, the class I was hoping to attend was no longer available. Had my inquiry been answered sooner, there's a reasonable chance this entire situation could have been avoided. I do acknowledge that your staff eventually offered alternatives, and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, those options did not work with my schedule, which is why I chose to look elsewhere. As for your rude, unprofessional, and hurtful comments about my review history or personal character, I'll let readers form their own conclusions. I don't believe those issues have any bearing on whether my experience was positive or negative. I genuinely wish your staff and your members the best. My review simply reflects my personal experience as a prospective customer, and I hope it also serves as constructive feedback that future inquiries can be answered more promptly.

All the students were courteous to me, a guest. On the days I was there, it was 10% warm-up, 20% instruction, 25% drilling, and 45% open rolling. Both days were focused on leg locks. There were about 30 people on the mats. And on one day, they invited some guest teachers in for a knee bar seminar. A true head coach and pennacle leader! It's with great honor that I shed light on Jason's ability to teach, inspire and challenge (T.I.C). Many years ago, prior to meeting and working with Jason, I thought that I knew everything there was to know about the sales industry within Verizon Wireless. To me, at that time, I had already worked with some of the best people in the industry. Those people were able to teach me and my team positional selling tactics, including but not limited to, overcoming objections. We were making money! My store, at the time, consistently hit top 10 out of about 50+ locations in our region. After meeting Jason and being under his leadership, he was quickly able to teach me something completely different than what any other coach was able to teach. It's like Jason took control of my mind! I began to see my flaws, as a leader, that others seen and may have overlooked due to my and my teams stellar performance. Needless to say, I was cocky and arrogant and to be quite frank, there's no way I would have moved from store manager to the next level of leadership without Jason. I (nervously) joined the Gracie Decatur Women's Empowered self-defense program a month ago, and it's been the BEST decision! Why nervously? I'm middle-aged and have zero martial arts experience. Doubts like, "Am I too old? How will I keep up?" kept creeping in. But after just one introductory class, I skipped the 10-day free trial and signed up on the spot. What made it an easy decision? - Incredible coaches - the coaches are expert teachers who truly care. I highly recommend Gracie Jiu Jitsu Decatur! I have been waiting for a place like Gracie Jiu Jitsu Decatur to open up for a long time. BJJ is a hobby of mine for many years and I've always wanted to study the Gracie Jiu Jitsu curriculum, but the closest Certified Gracie Training Center was too far outside the Perimeter for me. I have trained at another great facility inside the Perimeter, but Gracie Decatur is the perfect fit for my needs and I am happy I've switched to training there. Gracie Decatur is in the perfect location for me. The facility is nice. Coach Jason and Coach Alora have created a place with a positive and welcoming environment. The students in the group classes all seem great and accepting. Coach Jason and Coach Alora are also incredible, detail-oriented instructors, especially during individual lessons. Grateful that I've found Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Decatur! I recently moved back to Georgia and was looking for a place to learn jiu-jitsu. After passing Gracie Decatur many times I finally stopped in for a free class. Yes, free. Coach Jason and Coach Alora are fantastic! It can be intimidating being "the new guy", and everyone, from the senior students, to other beginners, made me feel comfortable and welcome. Along with several other instructors, Jason was instrumental in my passing the Gracie Combatives test. His thorough knowledge of the techniques enabled him to correct some minor errors and give me last minute pointers before we started recording the test on video. Jason and Alora are excellent instructors and great people! They provide a safe and fun culture. I always feel welcomed. The curriculum is very well structured. What's great about it is that it teaches you…read morebasic self defense when you're put under extreme stress - say walking home from the bars and a person tries to mug you. I didn't realize how easy it is to just freeze up and do nothing when someone tries to hurt you, so I think this is a great class to learn basic street fighting. I'm a petite lady and I always worry that a bigger person will try to attack me and I won't be able to fight back, but I think if I continue to take krav maga classes I will gain the muscle memory and strength to defend myself. I've taken kick boxing class and it's great for cardio and strength training but you're always punching an inanimate object (sand bag) so it doesn't put you in the mindset of being attacked by someone. When I took my krav maga class I was already learning how to fight one on one with another person and it forced me to think quick on my feet and attack back. Also, I had my first class with Morgan and she is super awesome! Very informative and her demonstrations make it easy to learn when it's your first time. She also makes it very fun. There's a groupon for this class and they also offer a free first time try out!

I am traveling for year, and I needed to learn some useful real life street self defense. I am so glad to have found this place. The classes are fairly small,which lets you get a more personal training. All of the trainers are super awesome (shout out to Morgan!) The best thing about to fit to fight krav maga classes is that it's pretty comprehensive. I heard other classes teaches you techniques, per level. Hence, you will be doing level 1 before you can proceed to getting your hands on to some much more advance self defense ie. Knife defense or gun defense. Hence, you will be doing fighting stances for a while. But here, they teach you the basics, and then also lets you experience various advance techniques. They will ask you "what do you feel like learning today?" And you can tell them, and they can plan for it. Maybe you will get to learn that technique you suggested that day, and if not, they will try to do it the next time. Granted, you will not master these advance techniques right away of course, but at least, they gave you the knowledge to do it. You end up getting better at it, when they go over that same technique on classes later on. So it's a cycle. By doing this, I was able to cover a lot of useful real life self defense skills, and I only had 4-5wks of training before I left. A few examples include: gun defense, knife defense, what to do when you are being hostage (with gun or knife), get someone off of you, etc. Krav maga is awesome. A very useful self defense and a real work out too. If I come back to Atlanta, I am definitely coming here again. I do miss this place!

They offer classes throughout the entire day (GI&No Gi) to fit everyone's schedule/experience level. Professor Greg (the owner) is there 95% of the time (the other 5% he is traveling to students BJJ competitions) and is truly committed to the improvement of his students. He excels in breaking down complicated techniques to new students like myself and is great at providing individualized attention even though the gym is growing.
