    Escape Room Mystery

    Escape Room Mystery

Went in for an escape room experience with some friends, including three kids, and it was a really…read morefun time! Our puzzle master, Jamie, did a great job of explaining the process before we got started, and I do appreciate that the door is unlocked so you can come and go as needed (didn't have to, but I remember when that wasn't the case!). We did the Witch's Cauldron, which was a really fun room to work with. Of course without giving anything away, everything was pretty clear in terms of what was next, and clues came way in handy when we asked for them, which was easily done by just saying so while looking at a camera. I think this was their newest room, but the first one I'd been to. I thought it was really well done, and everyone was engaged throughout. I especially prefer the rooms where there's a lot that needs to be done, so people can split up doing stuff rather than everyone crowding around one puzzle. I'd love to try another room there sometime!

Came here on a rainy and chilly Saturday afternoon with my girlfriend and 11-year-old son. It was…read morethe first time ever trying an escape room for all of us. The rooms are $32 per person (no discounts for children or weekday pricing), and with tax the total price for the three of us was $102.36. David was our game master and did a great job of explaining everything to us before we started and quickly feeding us clues during the game when we asked. We did the Egyptian Tomb: Imhotep's Curse because it felt the most like we were in Indiana Jones. I wish we had known there were actually two rooms, so that I might have budgeted my time better and asked for clues a little sooner. Alas, we did not escape the room(s), but it was still a great experience and it was all very well designed. I think we are all itching to come back for redemption, so we'll definitely return and give one of the other rooms a shot.

We were simply told that we could not throw the larger items, only the cups, and then left to figure everything else out on our own. To make matters worse, we paid extra for the "360 video experience," only to find out it was nothing more than our own phone being placed on their device -- something that was never properly explained beforehand. Charging customers extra for that is extremely misleading. What was most frustrating was the complete lack of care and professionalism from the two staff members working. After sitting around for an extended period with no communication, we literally had to go out and ask whether our session was even over. That level of disinterest and poor customer service was obvious the entire time. My family and I came here to celebrate a birthday, and instead we left frustrated and disappointed. Spending nearly $300 for this level of service was a complete waste of money. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone.

I'd been curious about rage rooms for a while, and after stumbling upon The Ragery while walking my…read moredog, I finally decided to check it out with a friend. We went for the $200 room, which came with one large item, one medium, one small, and a variety of plates and cups to smash. The process starts with signing waivers, storing your stuff in a locker, and suiting up with a helmet (with a face guard), gloves, and a thin jumpsuit. They also give you a wireless speaker so you can blast your own music while you rage which adds a fun personal touch. Inside the room, the rules are pretty straightforward: don't break the walls, don't hit each other, and keep communicating. You get a choice of "weapons" including bats, pipes, crowbars, a skateboard, and hammers. For about 30 minutes, we were on our own with plenty of room to let off steam and smash things to our hearts' content. Was it fun? Absolutely. Smashing stuff is as therapeutic as you'd hope. Was it worth $200? That's a tougher call. It felt a bit steep for what you get, but the experience did match what was advertised. I imagine you could find similar rooms for less money outside of Manhattan, but this is New York; just about everything is pricier here, even breaking stuff. Overall, I had a blast, but if you're on a budget, keep in mind that the cost is definitely part of the thrill in this city.

Going to give a very honest review that reflects several other problems recent lower star reviews…read morehave also said they had. The BEST thing about this place is the staff. In fact we will probably come back here to do another room and we wouldn't bother if it had not been for how friendly the staff is, especially (but not exclusively) someone named Jack. Seriously, whomever owns/runs this place, take note: you need to give this man a raise, because without him and the other people working there, we would never come back. We did the horror/spooky themed room "The Estate" which is fairly high tech in many ways. Lots of really cool digital effects, in theory a very well designed room. Unfortunately our *very first* two puzzles did not function properly. One of the very first doors that is meant to spring open didn't do so; it popped open a crack but we couldn't pull it open easily and given the rules to never force things open, we didn't want to pull it HARD, which it turns out we should have. Also, after solving the very first puzzle, a door that was supposed to spring open did not do so. They have a rule that you cannot ask for a hint for the first ten minutes, so for ten minutes we milled around feeling stupid until we finally asked for a clue that literally spelled out how to solve the next major puzzle - and when we did, a door opened with a prop hidden inside that had *the way to solve the puzzle we just solved* written inside of it. So that was pretty damned frustrating. Certain other things were a bit off here and there, but the deisgn and concept were very immersive so ultimately we let it go and as a duo of only two we managed to finish with ten minutes left (but it would have been more if we hadn't wasted the first ten.) If this place could get it's sh*t together to not have broken puzzles/doors/portions, they'd probably avoid these negative reviews. My advice: come here, give it a try, but say to your gamemaster before you start "I have read some recent reviews saying that some puzzles and traps are having problems. Can you please be very attentive during our experience and make sure nothing goes wrong, and if it does, help to correct it quickly?"

Every room is private so it was just the 2 of us and they let you connect your phone to their system so you can listen to your own playlist while painting. They give you ample and quality gear - poncho, coveralls, gloves and goggles. And then they send you into the room with plenty of paint, 1 canvas per person and whatever else you ordered (paint bombs, paint guns, spin art, stencils, etc). We also got the bear pour as an add-on and I'm super excited about it! (Note that the bear can't be taken home that day though so we paid for shipping). You can paint wherever and however to your hearts desire. Our room also had plastic axe throwing and a drum with paint on it to splatter. I LOVE taking pictures so I also very much appreciated that they come in constantly to take pictures and send them to you a few days later. When it was time to go, they give you pizza boxes that hold the canvases perfectly. We laid down a sheet in our trunk underneath but it wasn't necessary (and our canvases had A LOT of paint on them so we we were impressed they didn't spill - and made the 1.5 hr drive home without getting ruined). It was a fun way to celebrate my birthday and I would definitely go back with my 3 boys! Afterwards, we did their target zone with BB guns (they said age minimum is about 10 which makes sense). I wasn't sure if we'd do it but I wanted to extend our day to more than just the hour so we went ahead and did it. VERY WORTH IT! Ron helped us and was a great instructor - very nice and happy to be there. We tried their airsoft rifles and then their handguns and both were very different and fun to play with. My husband and I went head to head making it a fun competition and it's pretty easy to pick it up quickly. Overall, great experience and really friendly staff!
