So hospitable they offer bones & water for canine neighbors

Server was an absolute gem. Helped guide us to order authentic Philly cheesesteaks and curated our dining for the most up to date local options. The food was exactly as she predicted it would be: get the onions, add the ketchup. Locals and tourists alike sat in pleasant, clean air conditioned comfort in their old style Italian pizzeria environment. Would go back.

How fun! We came as a company event and had such a blast. Chef Ed was great, letting us get our hands dirty while doing most of the cooking. The wine was flowing, the food kept coming. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would recommend to anyone!

First time at Old City Kitchen and it was super fun. We were welcomed w cheese plates, airy focaccia and crusty Italian bread & our choice of Red or White wine. We were seated directly in front of the Chef for the class which consisted of 3 different handmade pasta and sauce recipes. Chef was funny and skilled & We sampled all of the dishes ! Everyone there seemed to be on a date but this was just as much fun w a friend. Will definitely be back !!!

Can't rave about Ed's Pasta 101 Class enough! This is a great intro to pasta making course that goes through many different pasta shapes (2 doughs) and 3 different sauces. It is interactive in forming making the pasta shapes while Ed does the cooking. He's super friendly and knowledgeable, giving tips, tricks, stories, and philly recs. Wine is offered throughout the class with both antipasto and focaccia (see pictures). Pro tip: save ur focaccia for ur extra sauce (if you can)!

Pasta Making 101 - What was in store for the class

We had heard that Old City Kitchen had opened and naturally, being that it's so close, we kept an eye on when it would open and what they would offer. We couldn't resist the Pasta 101 class, so signed up and have been anticipating the class for several weeks now. What a good time the three hour period was. Chef Ed was super engaging and allowed for plenty of time for us to ask questions. The class started with him explaining what we would be doing and discussing the ingredients while we got to snack on our small bites (all of which was quite tasty; loved the bread, in particular). We then proceeded to make three different types of pasta and three different sauces. As someone who loves and has tried making cacio e pepe pasta before (and failed miserably), I was particularly excited to learn more about this and the proper technique to make it edible. I definitely think my next attempt will be more successful due to what we learned today. The simple Alfredo and quick tomato sauce were both quite tasty, too. We also got to learn more of the technique around making fresh pasta - the right texture and feel really. The hands on nature of this and ability to ask questions really helps. We have done other online cooking classes and read countless books, but never felt like we were getting it right. Today was truly helpful. We loved the mix of hands on/hands off, too. Each group got to play a part in contributing to the meals success. Laura and her assistant kept us all hydrated along the way as well, and couldn't have been any more accommodating as well. We will definitely be back for more of these. It was such a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. They do private parties and events as well. I would highly recommend taking a look at what they offer if you want to do something like this.

It's solely a cooking school - no food service. Otherwise, no need to waste time since you will not be served food.

The overall purpose of the market is to feel full, and to feel like one of hundreds of people. And there are so many visitors around lunchtime and later. The walkways between the various cafes, bakeries, and food spots wer streams and rivers of hungry people. So many options of local Pennsylvanian delicacies were available, and seating was plentiful. There was a main seating area in the middle of the market, where you could see classes of high school students being lectured by teachers, workers on their lunch hour nibbling on a snack, and tourists and visitors frantically looking at all the visual splendor and fragrant cookery. Each individual business in the market has something to contribute to the overall experience. If you are close to the market, I recommend going during breakfast, lunch, and dinner to see the difference in food options. I also recommend going before lunch because it is usually a little less packed. Parking is going to be a hassle, so find parking where you can, and try to walk there!

It was worth the wait! Our event was hosted by The Royal Chef (Darren McGrady). He cooked for 5 US Presidents in addition to the Queen of England and her family. Needless to say, he didn't disappoint. Not only was the food he created fantastic, but he was personable and super funny. Shortly thereafter, my wife and I signed up for the Fundamentals cooking course at The Farm Cooking School - a six class series covering everything from knife skills to roasting, poaching and braising. What we experienced was far better than we expected. These are hands on classes, where we learned about the ingredients, how to utilize them and why they worked in each dish we prepared. At the end of each class, we all sit down and enjoy a delicious meal that by itself would likely cost as much as the class if we bought it at a local restaurant. What a bargain! Since that first series, I've taken over 30 other classes, and continue to take classes every week. I've made French sauces, Mexican moles, Italian pastas, Indian curries, pies, breads, and just about everything else you've seen on a plate. The variety and quality of classes and the food we've eaten has been amazing. Through these classes and the down-to-earth teaching styles of Ian and Shelley, I've learned that it's possible for amateurs like me to prepare meals that taste as good or better than those I get in restaurants. I walk away from classes thinking "Wow, that was so delicious. I can't wait to try this at home!"
