TL;DR/The Short Version: Delicious bubble tea at this shop…read moretucked into the corner of a plaza. No real seating so I'd say takeout only. The Long Version: Bliss Tea opened up where Sip Tea used to be on Merivale Ave. I think they just rebranded because their drinks taste similar and when I entered my phone number to collect points, it already knew my name despite it being my first time there (I had an account with Sip Tea. Mind you I lost all those points and had to start over with Bliss Tea). I got the Coco Mango ($6.49) and added Tea Jelly (an additional $0.80). I got 30% sweet because 0% was not an option. I also got less ice. My drink was delicious! It contained lots of real mango pieces, rich and creamy coconut milk, and the tea jelly had a nice tea flavour and good texture. The tea jelly is big blobs of jelly like the pudding jelly or herbal/grass/Mesona jelly that's also a bubble tea topping option. It's not neat little cubes or rectangles like coconut jelly. They have a self-ordering kiosk where you select what you want on the screen and pay by card. If you want to pay cash you have to order from the cashier, but you can only pay cash at the cashier. You can't order from the cashier and pay by card. So many rules, lol. There are instructions next to the self-ordering kiosk and on the kiosk itself so it's pretty easy to use. I was thankful for the instructions because the screen was all in Chinese when I started but there were arrows that pointed where to press to change the language. Once it was in English it was really straightforward. Service was quick. I had very little interaction with staff. They basically called out my order number and gave me my drink, lol. There's no real seating. There's this bench along the wall towards the front and 2 really short stools (one of which was on top of the bench). I think it's just a place to sit while you wait for your drinks. It doesn't look like a comfortable place to hang out for long. The shop is in a plaza, so there's free parking in the shared parking lot. I'll definitely be back to try out other drinks. (194)

I was so excited when I discovered that a OneZo Tapioca opened up in Ottawa. They opened June 24,…read more2022. I love OneZo for their freshly made-in-store from scratch tapioca. Most bubble tea shops just buy dehydrated prepackaged tapioca and they merely boil it in-store. OneZo also makes flavoured tapioca, like mango, cactus and black sesame tapioca. Their tapioca toppings are $1, so more expensive than most places which charge only $0.50-$0.75, but I feel it's worth it. On my first visit, I actually didn't get a drink with tapioca in it, lol, but was enticed by the Strawberry Mochi Niuniu (large for $6.99). It was a hot day and this drink is a smoothie, so I went for it. The drink has strawberry puree at the bottom, then a layer of mochi and then topped with strawberry smoothie. The sugar level is fixed for this drink, so I found it too sweet, but it was still good. Now the mochi is not like pieces of chewy mochi, like the toppings at frozen yogurt places, it's a sticky, gooey liquid (yeah, it sounds gross, and I'm sure many people find it gross, so caveat emptor, lol, but I like it). However, it wasn't as thick as at Tiger Sugar, so I didn't like the mochi at OneZo as much, but I still enjoyed my drink. On my second visit I got a large Strawberry Tea ($5.99) with OneZo Tapioca ($1). OneZo Tapioca is a mix of crystal, mango and purple tapioca. Very colourful! I was a bit disappointed that the sweetness was also fixed for this drink at 25% as I would have preferred no sugar, but it was still ok and not excessively sweet, though sweeter than my preference. The tapioca were soft and chewy, although admittedly, all 3 flavours kind of tasted the same to me in the drink, haha. They have an app you can download to collect points for freebies. Service was very courteous and helpful. The store is in the same strip mall as Baklawa King, Daal Roti, KFC, Top Trimmers Hair Studio, DN Nails & Spa and W Flowers. Lots of free parking. Merivale, between Baseline and Meadowlands is becoming quite the Bubble Tea hub. OneZo Tapioca is a very welcomed addition!!

It wasn't too busy but it was busy enough for one person to take orders (in person and mobile) and to have to make the drinks. We waited for our drinks for 30 mins. It wasn't terrible but we had a toddler with us who luckily wasn't too annoyed. The person working was really nice though and was apologetic. The pearls were so good and were made fresh. I got the cactus tapioca which was pretty unique. We also got the strawberry mochi milk tea. This one was interesting since the mochi was like a melted marshmallow consistency. It was pretty good but definitely not what we were expecting. I'd come here again to try other things.

BOGO Fresh Mango Green Tea!…read more Snatched an awesome BOGO deal last night on the way to a game night with colleagues, perfect for the 6 of us, all in for $22.52. Today was my first time going into Tiger Sugar on Merivale (or any Tiger Sugar for that matter)…read more The vibe of the place was cool and it was surprisingly empty during lunch rush hour. There was only one employee working and she was friendly and quick to put together my order. The menu is expansive so be prepared to spend a couple of minutes deciding what you want. I ended up ordering three bubble teas to go: 1. Lychee Bursting Boba Black Tea 2. Tiger Cheese Strawberry 3. Tiger Mango Sago I added extra boba to all of the bubble teas and my order came to around $30, which is a bit pricey for bubble tea. I got home to my family and we all shook our bubble tea as instructed by the employee before trying them. All of them were tasty, but not super memorable or something we would absolutely need to go have again. The mango one had chunks of fruit in it, but they tasted more like peaches than mango. The strawberry cheese one tasted like strawberry cheesecake and had a saltiness to it. Overall, the bubble teas were good, but we feel like we have had better elsewhere for the amount of money we paid for it.

These days all other bubble tea places are ~$7/drink and meanwhile Sip Tea's price still stayed the same. Sip Tea's price is comparable with other places now. It's quite a bargain when you get ones with cheese mousse or real fruit. It's delicious drinking the tea mixed with the mousse... Or you can enjoy the mousse on top seperately. Either way, the drink taste like a delicious liquid cheesecake. The brown sugar Bobo milk tea is one of my favorite now. It's my go-to when competitive tea shops offer monthly specials that's not "my cup of tea".

I tried cheese mousse tea for the first time today at Sip Tea and it was pretty good. It tasted…read morelike a salted caramel cheesecake in drink form. So Ottawa was a bit late in joining the cheese mousse tea trend. Sip Tea is the first place to sell it in Ottawa and it currently is the only place in Ottawa. They recently opened in either January or February 2019, so the place is brand spanking new. I will be the first to admit that "cheese mousse tea" sounded weird to me, but I like trying new foods and at the worst I'd be out $6-7 and at the best I would discover a new favourite drink. Well, it's not my new favourite drink, but I did enjoy it, and while $6 (almost $7 with tax) was a bit spendy for a smallish drink, in my opinion, I'm glad I tried it. I got the Chocolate Milk Tea with Cheese Mousse ($5.99), which was one of the least expensive drinks. You get to choose your sweetness and ice levels. I got "less sugar" (which is less than "half sugar" but more than "no sugar" - so probably about 25-35% of what they would normally use) and regular ice. I felt that the sweetness was perfect for me. I would definitely find full-strength sweetness too sweet. And there was very minimal ice in my drink, yet it was cold, so this too was perfect for me. Like I mentioned earlier, the drink tasted like a salted caramel cheesecake. The cheese mousse on top was slightly salty but also sweet. It was more like a frothy foam. There was also something like a vanilla pudding swirled into the drink. I honestly didn't taste much tea flavour. The drink itself was like a chocolate milk. The drink was rich and decadent. Service was good and pretty quick. The place is cute with minimalist decor. It seats 9 people, so it's not that big. I would return to try other drinks. They have a loyalty card. You get a free drink after the purchase of 10 drinks. The store is in a little strip mall. Same strip mall was The Barley Mow, Willy's Pizza, and Bell. There is free parking.

Anyway, I love the CoCo chain in general because their milk teas are generally strong and creamy. My mom had never been to a CoCo before, and she loves taro, so I brought her there to try out their taro drinks. She got a large fresh taro milk ($5.70) and added tapioca ($0.50), regular sweetness and regular ice. I got a medium 3 Guys Milk Tea ($5.50), 30% sweetness and regular ice. For some reason my drink came in an opaque cup, while my mom's drink came in a clear cup, so hers was much more photogenic than mine. The 3 Guys Milk Tea is milk tea with tapioca, Mesona jelly (aka grass jelly or herbal jelly), and pudding (which is a bit like a cross between flan and pudding). I love lots of toppings in my drinks, so I really enjoyed my drink, but I do feel that this drink is not for everyone. Some people may find the texture of the pudding and jelly to be odd in a drink (it's like really soft jello), and the herbal taste of the grass jelly is less mainstream than toppings like tapioca or coconut jelly. I would probably not recommend this drink for a bubble tea novice, but if you've had lots of bubble tea before, or are familiar with grass jelly and like it, then I would definitely recommend it ;) The tapioca were soft and chewy. The tea didn't taste as strong as I've had at other locations, but it was still very good. 30% sweetness was perfect for me, as I don't like overly sweet drinks. My mom loved her drink. She really liked the real taro layer. A lot of the time, taro drinks are made with artificial taro powder, so she loved the fresh taro. Service was good and the wait time was short. I'm so glad that more bubble tea places are popping up in Ottawa :)

The Long Version: The original Y Not Go For Tea was a kiosk inside the original T&T Supermarket location in Ottawa on West Hunt Club. I thought there was some agreement between Y Not Go For Tea and T&T, so I was shocked when I went to the Nepean location of Green Fresh Supermarket and saw there was a Y Not Go For Tea kiosk inside. Green Fresh Supermarket and T&T Supermarket are rivals! Lol. The Green Fresh Supermarket on McArthur, has a bubble tea vendor in it, but it's called World Tea House, so I was completely expecting to see a World Tea House inside this Green Fresh Supermarket on Merivale, but that wasn't the case. Anyway, I thought the Y Not Go For Tea location on West Hunt Club was just ok, so I wasn't expecting much from this Merivale location, but they were having a special on UberEats, $9.49 BOGO (buy one get one free) drinks so I decided to give them a chance. I got a peach fruit tea with boba and jelly, less ice and no sugar. The drink itself was good, but I was disappointed with the amount of toppings I got. So little! I only had toppings for the first few sips :( And I discovered I didn't save much with the special because their prices in-store are much cheaper than on UberEats, even when you take the BOGO offer into consideration. I might give them another chance in the future and buy directly from the store to see if they are less stingy with the toppings. Free parking available in the supermarket parking lot.
