Usually I like trying out new businesses that open up in my neighbourhood, but admittedly I'm not a coffee connoisseur. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between a $50 cup of Kopi Luwak and a cup of Folgers instant coffee, lol. So coffee shops don't really excite me. However, I recently learned that Bower Coffee Company sells baked goods from a business called Adam Bakes. I've been wanting to try treats from Adam Bakes for a while now, but they are only open on Saturdays 8am-12pm and not in my neighbourhood, so their limited hours have prevented me from trying them. I didn't realize that they also sold their baked goods to other businesses for resale, so when I discovered this, I planned a little coffee date for my husband and I at The Bower Coffee Company :) I chose a Cinnamon Swirl Blondie from Adam Bakes ($4.85) and my husband chose a Peanut, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip cookie from Art-Is-In Bakery ($5.25) and we got a regular 12 oz coffee ($3.25). The coffee tasted like any other coffee to me (unsurprising, lol). My husband is more of a coffee connoisseur than I am and his comment was it was a bit too watery, but otherwise ok. I loved the Blondie. It was rich and I think there's cheesecake swirled into it because it had creamy bits to it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour. I really enjoyed it and so did the hubster. I ended up hauling my butt out to Adam Bakes the following Saturday morning to try their other offerings, which weren't available at Bower Coffee. Adam Bakes will get its own review. I noticed that the prices are cheaper buying directly from Adam Bakes than at Bower Coffee, but I guess that's not surprising. The cookie was unremarkable in my opinion, but the hubby enjoyed it. It had whole peanuts in it as well as peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was soft and chewy, and the whole peanuts gave it the occasional crunch. Service at Bower Coffee was great. The barista asked me for the Blondie if I wanted a centre piece or an edge piece. I know some people like the crispiness of edge pieces, but I prefer the softness of centre pieces, so I was happy to be asked. The decor is clean lines minimalist. It's not a huge space, but has a decent amount of tables. It was bustling on a Sunday morning. Overall, a nice place for a coffee date, albeit a bit pricey in my opinion, but I get it, everything is expensive these days :/ We walked there, but it's street parking only for those coming by car. When I saw The Bulldog Cafe on Google Maps, I knew I had to go there! They are a food truck and their specialty is waffles shaped like bulldog faces. How cute is that?!? We were going to get the cheesecake waffle for my mom and I but they ran out, so we got a Tiramisu waffle instead. And with the purchase of those 4, we filled up our loyalty card, so for my free one, I got the pepperoni pizza waffle that I wasn't able to get on my first visit. The girls loved their Nutella waffles. They were filled with so much Nutella. The Tiramisu waffle had a strong Tiramisu flavour and we enjoyed it. I was hoping the pepperoni pizza waffle would have more cheese this time, but again it had very little cheese :( It was mostly just pepperoni and tomato sauce. Most bubble tea shops just buy dehydrated prepackaged tapioca and they merely boil it in-store. OneZo also makes flavoured tapioca, like mango, cactus and black sesame tapioca. Their tapioca toppings are $1, so more expensive than most places which charge only $0.50-$0.75, but I feel it's worth it. On my first visit, I actually didn't get a drink with tapioca in it, lol, but was enticed by the Strawberry Mochi Niuniu (large for $6.99). It was a hot day and this drink is a smoothie, so I went for it. The drink has strawberry puree at the bottom, then a layer of mochi and then topped with strawberry smoothie. The sugar level is fixed for this drink, so I found it too sweet, but it was still good. Now the mochi is not like pieces of chewy mochi, like the toppings at frozen yogurt places, it's a sticky, gooey liquid (yeah, it sounds gross, and I'm sure many people find it gross, so caveat emptor, lol, but I like it). However, it wasn't as thick as at Tiger Sugar, so I didn't like the mochi at OneZo as much, but I still enjoyed my drink. On my second visit I got a large Strawberry Tea ($5.99) with OneZo Tapioca ($1). OneZo Tapioca is a mix of crystal, mango and purple tapioca. Very colourful! I was a bit disappointed that the sweetness was also fixed for this drink at 25% as I would have preferred no sugar, but it was still ok and not excessively sweet, though sweeter than my preference. The tapioca were soft and chewy, although admittedly, all 3 flavours kind of tasted the same to me in the drink, haha. They have an app you can download to collect points for freebies. I got the cactus tapioca which was pretty unique. We also got the strawberry mochi milk tea. This one was interesting since the mochi was like a melted marshmallow consistency. It was pretty good but definitely not what we were expecting. I'd come here again to try other things.
