If you have important work or timely transactions where you require the internet, be prepared to trudge your lap top over to the main office for internet access.

My credit card was charged, and I had a confirmation. The attendant had quite literally checked me in earlier in the day with no issues-yet she called the sheriff's office to search the island for my family and I. So, let me get this straight. I book. I pay. I show up. I check in. You check me in. You hand me the keys. No issues. Then, you call the sheriff's office and say you "think I'm committing fraud." I return. You realize that your dumb a** f***ed up. You don't even apologize. Then, for damage control you try to rent me a room for twice the price. As if traveling with an infant isn't already hard enough. I should have read the reviews first, because it wouldn't have taken long to see what a sh***y establishment that this is. What a bunch of f***ing idiots!

A part was ordered but had not arrived by our departure. Another serious issue was that the house had roaches. They said that is common on the island. I've never seen one during our 6 other stays on the island. I asked the manager if she had roaches at her house and she stuttered and said no. They also said they would call me back and 4 hours later I called them again. They said they tried to call me but I had no missed calls. Then they said the emailed me and there was nothing. They said they spelled my name wrong which makes no sense when I am in their database. So then they emailed me again saying there was an attachment and of course it wasn't there. They tried to give me a gift card for a future stay and I told them no way. They returned a small amount of money which didn't even come close to how much we spent on taxes alone. They have since not returned my emails or texts. I would like to review the house and there is nowhere on the website to do so although they post reviews for each property.

Outside in the courtyard was a porch swing, tables and chairs, bicycles for rent for the guests, a recycle bin that all guests are encouraged to use, and an area for guests to fillet their fish. My only negative comment about the room was the rather small shower stall. Before checking in here or at most any property on Ocracoke Island, make sure you understand all of their policies. Once you have made your reservation, it is considered something that cannot be cancelled. They will send via email all of the details. This was a pleasant, quiet place to stay.

When Dare County issued a mandatory evacuation due to Hurricane Erin, I was forced to leave my rental halfway through my stay. Despite paying nearly $5,000 for the second week, Midgett Realty refused to refund a single dollar. They hid behind a "forced field" checkbox about insurance buried in the booking process -- yet I never signed a lease, and their system still allowed me to book, pay in full, and check in. What makes this worse is the constant stream of promotional emails I received from Midgett about discounts on kayaks and beach gear, while they did little to clearly warn or emphasize protecting my stay through travel insurance. Clearly, sales come first -- customer protection comes last. After decades of loyalty to the Outer Banks, I will never book through Midgett Realty again. I've already filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Justice, and I will be sharing my experience with friends, family, and locals in the community so others can see how renters are treated when disaster strikes. If you're considering booking through Midgett Realty, be warned: when you need them most, they will not stand by you.

The bathroom is older but clean. The bed was comfortable and the pillows are nice. The patio furniture on the screened patio was covered in pollen but thats just this time of year in NC. We travel alot and I would most definately write a negative review if this place was as bad as I read about, but we enjoyed our stay and I would most definately come back.

We booked the house listing 3 dogs and they processed the booking. 6 days later they reached out to get the weights of our 3 dogs. Upon providing that information they responded that there would be a strict 2 dog max. They refused to allow us to pay more for a 3rd dog and are refusing to refund our money. We obviously would not have booked had a max number of pets been added to the posting. Complete scam that is leaving us out of money.​
