Great location posted 10/31/2011…read more When I saw The Cotton Warehouse on the internet, I knew this was the location for us! With my husband's work revolving around the cotton industry mixed with our desire to have a less traditional wedding, nothing could beat the rustic, beautiful space we found here. We booked the space immediately! I am a very low key, casual, down to earth person that is very low maintenance and easy to work with. I found the staff of the Warehouse to match our personalities perfectly. I now know that might have been to our demise. Communication was a very big problem with dealing with the staff. Phone calls were not returned, emails were answered but not in full. I actually received a text message from Jakob's assistant telling me that she was off that day, and to call Jakob if I needed anything. The point of the call was telling her I wasn't having any luck getting in touch with him! This same assistant, Krystal I believe, was also the same person calling me 2 days before the wedding asking me what food we'd like to serve when we ordered the food 6 months prior! Also, we were under the impression that Jakob would be at the wedding since he stated "if you need anything else, I'll be there". He was not. And even though she did a great job, he left someone (very young) in charge that I had never even met or had been informed of. We also were left with no water the day of the wedding and were told "we won't charge you for it", rather than "sorry we'll go get some immediately". We had dropped off every other beverage 24 hours before the wedding and were told by the bartender "I told Jakob there was no water" and Jakob responded "it wasn't in their contract". Well, neither was ice and we were given that. So basically they knew about it and didn't contact us so we could be prepared. Completely unprofessional and intentional. We also had difficulties with the speaker system, and that was when we discovered Jakob wasn't there. When he did arrive, his demeanor was very annoyed and he acted like we had inconvenienced him! We also were hit with extra fees at the last minute that were not expected. Overall, I really hope this company does better because the space is impeccable and there is nothing else like it in this area. It has amazing potential, but the staff needs to iron out it's kinks. It took me 4 months to write this review, because I wanted to be able to do it without so much emotion. I was sent the review link with an email that said, and I quote, "the better the review, the better the restaurant gift card". I do not do well with being bribed into a good review. I find it very tacky. I would rate this one star, but the space was so great we'll give it 2.

My son was married at the Cotton Warehouse on June 2, 2018. The bride and groom and the brides…read moreparents were required to sign a contract that they would not post on social media. I was not part of that contract but I now understand the reason behind it. Our experience was heart breaking! The food and bouquets were amazing, however, the boutonniere's were all wilted and brown. We were told to have drinks delivered the day before but when we arrived for the event nothing had been iced. Then we learned that there is no ice machine on the property and someone needed to be sent out for ice. The tables were not set up and greenery buckets were in the middle of the floor. Three of the bridesmaid's and myself had to sweep the floor, unload the drinks, and move flower buckets as the guests were arriving. There was a venue coordinator who was very unavailable and couldn't have cared less about preparation. The wait staff was rude and the guest tables were not cleared of dirty dishes, however, they did manage to enjoy the food as they sat at guest tables! The air conditioner went out and condensation damaged the DJ's equipment. The temp inside was extremely uncomfortable, the DJ was unable to play the pre-planned play list and guests left early. We were able to sit down with the owner and event planner after the wedding. We had a 3 page list of concerns. We were told it was our guests fault that the air conditioner didn't work because it was turned down and the unit froze! Seriously, how could he know who turned it down and why was it not in a protected area in the first place?? After the meeting we were told he would review our concerns and get back to us which he never did. When a follow-up e-mail was sent we were told he was consulting his attorney and would get back to us...2 weeks ago and we have heard nothing. When it's all said and done my son and daughter-in-law are very happily married. After all that is the most important part. However, the vision of the day they dreamed of, and a year and a half of planning, work, and lots of money later, the disappointment is devastating!

To be honest, it's very nerve racking because I am not a professional photographer. I'm just a dad who has a really nice camera because I got tired of getting fuzzy photo's while on vacation with my wife and children. Even though I can't see myself doing this for a living, I'm always honored when people I know trust me with such an important day. My friends got married here last weekend and out of the 4 weddings I've been asked to be the lead photographer, this place has to be my favorite location. Quaint is defined as having an old-fashioned attractiveness or charm; oddly picturesque. Thompson House and Gardens is the quintessential poster child for the word quaint. From a photographer's standpoint, they offer beautifully manicured lawns with a variety of venues scattered around the grounds for prime photo opportunities. Sweeping lawns, fountains, Roman gazebo and even an old west saloon make for fun photos. Also, the house has a wraparound porch and the rear is equipped with a long rustic outdoor bar, barn-like shed, adorable mini-guest house and vine covered trellis walkway. The outdoor setting for a lawn wedding is as romantic as I've ever seen and the reception hall is picture perfect for both dining and dancing. The wedding party used the upper part of the home for pre-wedding preparations and privacy. Since the event was catered, there was no need for the kitchen, but there is one available. THE VERDICT It is absolutely beautiful here! Every guest I spoke with was in complete awe of this place, including myself. My wife and I have been considering renewing our vows for our 15th Anniversary next year and Thompson House & Gardens is going to be tops on my list. If you are looking for an excellent venue for your wedding, I highly recommend you consider hosting it here.

I say less than ideal because you can't see the storefront from the main road, so they don't really have any exposure to nearby vehicular traffic and the signage is easy to miss. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] Mal's offers both fried & boiled seafood items and on our first visit we tried both. The FRIED CATFISH & SHRIMP PLATTER #1 includes two perfectly golden flaky fillets, six shrimp, fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Excellent flavor in the breading of the catfish & shrimp, however, the coleslaw and hush puppies were just average, and the fries can be hit or miss. Since that first visit, I have come back three more times! Each time we were greeted by Miss Maurice, a kind, extremely hospitable and down to earth server that will make you feel like a member of the family. Service is unexpectedly fast considering she basically ran the entire dining room alone on three of our four visits. Here are all the items we've tried: [ THE FOOD ] * MAL'S KRAZY BOILED PLATTER #2 2 clusters of snow crab legs, 8 shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn and boiled eggs. The seasoning of the boil was very good, but a tad salty. It seemed to me salt was added after the dish was plated and it honestly didn't need it. Overall, it was still very tasty, just something I thought I should note. (4 stars) * FRIED MUSHROOM APPETIZER Very good and plentiful. The house-made remoulade sauce made them even better. (4 stars) * FRIED CATFISH & SHRIMP PLATTER #1 By the third visit Catfish & Shrimp had become my staple meal. It is so me of the best fried fish and shrimp I've had anywhere. It is very apparent Mal changes her cooking oil often. The fried foods don't have a heavy greasy taste and have been perfectly golden every visit. (5 stars) * FRIED CLAM STRIPS So good! Perfectly breaded, perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried. (4.5 stars) * FRIED LOBSTER TAIL ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! A must try! (5+ stars) DISLIKES: The only items I'm not a huge fan of are the corn on the cob, cole slaw and the french fries. PRO TIP: Come for lunch! The specials are very reasonably priced!!! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] The entire staff welcomes everyone with a strong sense of "glad you are here". They were eager to correct any errors and on each & every visit insisted we come back real soon! Surely they will be in business for many years to come with their combination of great food and welcoming service! Mal's restaurant has quickly and easily become my FAVORITE place to eat in Monroe. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are in the area or any nearby suburban city!
