Today (9/18/2023) I was directed to Home Entertainment and Security for a background check…read moreappointment that I scheduled last week to be a parent volunteer at Hobbs Schools. The parking is minimal out front or there is some side street spots. Inside is a small, no nonsense lobby. I showed up 15 minutes late. One person was still being tended to. It didn't seem like they skipped me to be honest so I didn't fret. Two others were already waiting inside. When I reached the counter, a lone employee - the only one I saw that morning at around 10:30 - told me nicely to sit and wait. All good with me. I can get lots of work done at my fingertips. Lol. When I was finally told to go to the back for my fingerprinting (30 minutes later), I was simultaneously asked where my cell phone was as they do not allow photos, etc. back there. I noticed they play the Eagle 100.5 FM radio station. The deejays really irk me and I can't stand their morning show, but the employee and I both sang a Stone Temple Pilots song in unison. That dang Scott Wieland. I know way too much information now about the guy who fingerprinted me, but he was friendly and did not get awkward about anything during my appointment. He did get noticeably annoyed when another "parent volunteer" for the schools asked more follow-up questions after being told to please have a seat and wait. I don't blame him. The FBI's fingerprint scanner absolutely SUCKS! I know I beat my fingers and hands to hell but I had to rescan at least three times and some of the printing the guy just bypassed. I thought this was 2023 and a first world country for crying out loud. Overall this was way better than going to Central Office at Hobbs Schools because they look nearly half an hour with me last year. This place - aside from the wait behind two other people - took care if me in 10 minutes. Not a bad gig when the schools district paid nearly $60 for my background check! (Imagine the screaming face emoji here.)

Since Astound took them over, I had over 5 service calls telling them I had barely any service. It seemed I was on a party line, sharing my service with others on my street. I called Starlight Broadband, and the installer noticed one of my cables was in the wrong port. It fixed my problem. But ended up changing services anyway. I had made my payment early on July 1, 2025. It wasn't due until July 8, 2025. I cancelled July 2, 2025. They refuse to refund any monies stating I was paying for June 15, 2025 to July 15, 2025. Even though I would have been able to use their services until August 8, 2025. They said over and over, "Its our policy to never refund any monies"... They even told me they could see I wasn't connected any longer. What a rip off.

We now have cable and went to cancel DirectTv, they informed us that we would be charged $80 for an early out ( 4months). So much for loyalty. No more.

I recently canceled my TDS Internet service after years of dealing with spotty reliability and high…read moremonthly costs. I switched to Kinetic Fiber, and the difference has been remarkable. The service is significantly faster, far more reliable, and costs less than half of what TDS was charging. My biggest frustration, however, has been TDS's billing practices. It has now been five weeks since I closed my account, and TDS still has not refunded the $317.74 credit balance they owe me. When I called to ask about my refund, I was told it could take up to 120 days to process. I spoke with a supervisor hoping there might be some flexibility, but was simply told, "We cannot override company policy." I pointed out the obvious double standard: if I were 120 days late paying TDS, my internet service would have been disconnected long ago, and my account likely sent to collections. Yet when TDS owes money to a former customer, they believe it's acceptable to hold onto that customer's money for as long as four months. Between the unreliable service, high prices, and what I consider an unreasonable refund policy, I cannot recommend TDS. My experience with Kinetic Fiber has been the complete opposite - faster speeds, better reliability, and a monthly bill that is less than half of what I was paying TDS. If you're shopping for internet service in Carlsbad, I strongly recommend comparing your options before choosing TDS.

Windstream (aka Kinetic by Windstream) is a bit difficult to deal with sometimes, however, they…read morehave been in my experience the best quality and highest-speed Internet service provider in Hobbs, NM. My router crapped out on me, but getting to that determination took almost a week and an actual technician visit to my house. The technician was very respectful and friendly. Chatting with Windstream starts out - per the year 2024 fashion - with a bot. Then you chat with someone who barely makes full sentences sometimes and doesn't clearly explain what they want you to do. At one point I was lost in translation with "router" and "modem" because some are 2-in-1 devices and others are just routers or just modems. After three different attempts to chat with them on their "Go Kinetic" app at varying hours after the problem continued a couple of days later, the chat line divulged a new screen that read "no agents available." Lol. The representative who I spoke to on the phone on 4/12/2024 at around 9AM when they finally decided to answer was also very friendly, but a bit unintelligible at times. She was the one who after a 25-minute diagnosis session created a ticket for a technician to come by my house. If you're having a difficult time finding a tech support hotline, it's 1-800-347-1991. I'm grateful we got it all squared away because I work from home, but getting a hold of them - unless they want me to upgrade - is a bit of a chore.
