After an hour or so doing the flea market thing at the Saturday Mercado de Santa Clara, on a gorgeous post-Christmas weekend in the Alfama, much needed libations and sustenance refueling was required! I did a quick search for someplace nearby where we could find some vegan options and, lo-'n'-behold, right before our eyes, lay Tazza in Giro! Just what the doctor ordered!! :D
It's not an exaggeration when I say that everyone and their grandmothers were out looking for sustenance, as well!! (Lol!!) As we checked their menu display to ensure there would be something for us plant-based folks, our soon-to-be welcoming and kindly waiter did a quick run-through of their menu with us. And YES we had a nice variety of options! And, too, we lucked-out and scored the last empty table alfresco! The Sun King was on our side!! :D
A couple pints of Estrella Damm was required pronto! We started with a shared appetizer of hummus and spelt crackers/crisps. The dish presented scrumptiously: the hummus was appetizingly smooth with a hint of smokiness; the crisps were its perfect complement. For our mains, I ordered the rigatoni, which came with a smattering mushrooms stirred in a velvety tofu "béchamel"-like sauce. "Perfeito!" as they in Portuguese. (My better-half went with the lasagna, which was Yum! from the fork-full that I tried.) A couple more pints for-the-road, along with a shared banana/cream dessert (their only vegan option), which was satisfying (not overly sweetened!), and we were ready for a walk home to work-off the calories...! (Haha!)
The entire meal (4 pints of beers, shared-appetizer, 2 mains, and dessert) totaled an amazingly reasonable €55 (not including a 20% tip we added for the great service). Overall, the great people-watching location, the awesome food, and the fantastic service makes Tazza in Giro one of our finest lunch experiences we've had in Portugal!!! Highly, highly-recommended...!!! :D read more
