Another fine example, where you cannot judge a book by its cover. Of all the budget, and economy places that I have stayed, I have never seen one where, despite the small size, the room was this nicely done up. Or, having what essentially amounted to open-ended garage for most of the rooms. While the room does have a microwave, and mini fridge, a clock on the microwave read zero call 0:00. So, I had not realized that I drove through two time zones! Only after going out to dinner, and seeing that the place closed in 45 minutes, did I realize something was wrong. I found the bed to be quite comfortable. And the hot water was plentiful. The Wi-Fi is free, and secured. However, in my room, the signal strength was not at maximum. So, it worked fine for text. But, when it came to images, it took a while. Also, there's enough outlets to charge everyone's devices. 8-) If you don't mind having to either eat out for every meal, or being a microwave chef, this small little place would do well for an Extended Stay. The AC ran quietly, and work very well. However, due to the room design, the area where the bed was, cooled off quicker than the rest of the room. However, there could be one problem for some people; if you have a habit of jumping out of bed oh, you may find yourself back in bed, because you bounced off the wall. read more

Exceptionally nice and clean room w a little mini-kitchen. They also let you reserve without a credit card. The shower is easy to get in and out of. Yelp reviews never let us down. It was hard to find a place to eat as so many places were closed but Subway was open. Im giving 5 stars because of the excellent rooms and price but Broadway is apparently along the railroad and a train went by blowing the whistle multiple times in the middle of the night. It wasnt a 10 "My cousin Vinny" whistle but a good 5. It wouldnt matter where you stayed along Broadway, as the train ran parallel so we arent docking for it. Thank you, Tailors! read more

Okay I've generally stayed away from motels but needed to spend the night in Van Horn and it had the best reviews out of all motels and hotels. I checked in and the room was only fifty dollars which is good and the room and a nice tv, fridge, microwave, sink,etc. No bathtub but did have a shower. Shampoo, fresh towels, hot water,etc. What I thought was funny but was very useful to me was they are kind of like duplexes that have a garage between units. I had a bunch of stuff in the back of my truck with a camper and I was able to back in and that would keep anyone from being able to open the back and steal anything. I was actually worried about that if I was spending the night somewhere else and having to park in an open parking lot. The folks that have this place are very nice and friendly. It looks like it's been there for a long time but the keep it very clean and I was impressed on how well they go Over everything. Would stay here again. read more

The owner is a bit off-putting and brisk. He is very militant about not allowing pets or service animals on the premisses. We LOVE staying at the Taylor!!! It's an older unassuming motel but don't let the exterior fool you! The rooms are clean and very comfy beds. Many of the rooms have been updated, we have stayed in both updated and not. Either never disappoints. When we are passing through we won't stay anywhere else, unless we are traveling with our medically required service animal. I would like to give the Taylor 5 stars but his attitude regarding service animals is a definite ADA violation. read more

This was a great overnight stop. The room (room 1) was actually a two-room suite with three beds, on the street side (Broadway). The first room had a queen bed and the second room had two queen (if I remember correctly) beds. Each room had a tv, but we didn't turn them on. The shower was great. Shampoo, cream rinse and bar soap was provided. The train comes through behind the building day and night, but this is a part of life in Van Horn. On a previous trip, we stayed at El Capitan just down the street, which was also nice, but this is better in some ways, on the pocketbook for one thing, and if you are a family of six, you can all fit comfortably with some separation from the kids (no door between the rooms but a sizable wall) and there are also carports between the rooms, providing further separation from other guests. We would definitely stay here again! read more

I've stayed in VH at least 3 times over the past few years and this is the best place by far. It's about the same price or less than the smaller budget motels in town. I was greeted warmly by the man on duty at the desk and he recommended local places to eat and shop. Very helpful. The rooms are old, clean and maintained. Perfect experience here from check-in through check-out. Welcoming staff and clean, sanitary, orderly rooms! Everything inside was folded neatly. Even the end of the toilet paper roll was surpfolded into a cute little triangle. The accommodations were simple and no frills but absolutely flawless. The price was more affordable than other places in the area as well. How is it that you can be the cheapest AND the tidiest motel at the same time?! I guess it's not always true that "it's too good to be true". And yes, there is WiFi and televisions that actually work. This is exactly the type of place I like to stay. It is cute, clean and comfortable. I couldn't believe they had a fridge and freezer, along with a microwave. The fridge was big enough to put all of our food from our medium sized cooler in it. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room, but coffee is provided in the office. We had a queen bed which was okay. It was $50 which included tax. Also, they recommended RJ's restaurant so we went there. It's a sports bar. Food was good but not great. Limited menu and service was slow. Wow what a find!! My husband and I were on the road needing a room for the night stop. Not knowing the area I went to my fabulous Yelp. Being kinda a room snob, I wanted to stay at El Capitan because it seemed to be THE place because of its history and amenities but it was sold out. Okay, next option Yelp? The Taylor Motel came up with excellent t stars and reviews but it was a Motel and not very exciting, I thought. Oh well Yelp has never let me down. We pulled in and Jose was at the front desk. Not a big talker but very pleasant. I asked him for his best room. He said I'll put you in one of our most recent renovated rooms. Looking at the facade of the building I was still skeptical. At this point I was praying for just clean; not that it was bad it was just older and not the fancy hotels I'm used to in the big cities. We turned the knob and we were so pleasantly surprised. It was absolutely fabulous. The room had a separate eating area with fridge & freezer, microwave, dining table and a spacious bedroom and the bathroom was awesome. There was a nice vanity area for sink and toilet and shower was in separate space. The shower was HUGE and everything was very nice. Tile on floors throughout and the sheets even smelled clean. Oh and did I tell you about the 55 inch TV? Price we paid including tax $67. I'm in love! They made this city snob a believer. Kudos to this owner. If ever we need a place to stay again in Van Horn we will be back here. One little issue. There is a train close by but after all the other pluses I just chalked that up to cool ambiance. read more

In a town with an oddly large number of motels, Taylor Motel is a true winner. Van Horn, Texas is a small town (pop 3000), so for most of you it's going to be a stopover on the way to somewhere else, just like it was for me. I chose Taylor by virtue of the Yelp reviews already posted and was not disappointed. From the first moment of talking to Oliria at the front desk, I knew this was the right choice out of many options. Oliria and her husband have owned the motel since 2007, but the motel has been there since 1912. They have been renovating each of the rooms in a different fashion, I only saw the room I was in, but it was two smallish rooms nicely finished with three beds and two flat screen TVs, as well as a small fridge, microwave and in wall air conditioner (see pics for more details). There is a train track that runs along the back side of some of the units, and of course Broadway (the main road that runs the length of Van Horn) traffic on the other side of some of the units, but I had no problem getting a good night's sleep. Remember, it's a small town. And finally, for those of you who need a good internet connection, the Taylor Motel has a strong signal coming from two different routers, and it's all included in the price of the room. That's the best part, I was paid in full for $34, including all taxes. read more

I can't say enough good things about this little motel. My experience here was as good or better than staying at some hotels that cost more than twice as much. Great bedding. Quiet rooms. The carports really help to eliminate noises from other rooms. Clean. Well appointed. And the little touches like having the heat on for you before you get into the room says a lot about the customer service mentality of the folks that run this place. Great Value! Called at 1am and got last room, #15. Manager said to call 15 minutes off and he would meEat at the office. He was very pleasant and to do that to rent one last room that late was appreciated. Arrived 2am and had nicely redone room with new floors, tile, walk-in shower, new mini-split ac/heat, fridge and microwave, large TV, and two comfortable queens. Quiet night with 11am checkout. This motel is about 100 years old and some rooms have attached carports like you'd see at an old Route 66 motel. Our room was on the wing without the carports so I can't say anything about the other wings being the same but from the outside they look similar. Over a 3000 mile trip between TX and CA, this was the lowest cost and best value, especially in the vast space between El Paso and Midland. read more

I stayed here based on Yelp reviews! Cute/cozy and CLEAN. Free wi-fi too! It has a little carport for parking next to your room (and spaces in the front of the room as well) but I had a long moving truck. I was allowed to park it on the lot by vending, which was just across from my room and worked out fine. The room is simple and adorable. Small, but just what I needed. I prefer a bathtub, but the shower was fine. For the price, WELL WORTH every cent. I hope to never have to make this trip again, but if I do, THIS is where I will plan to stay. read more

9/2/2017 If you're in Van Horn or stop for the night and are within an hour of it you're an idiot if you don't stay here. Clean, new, doesn't smell like lizard lot twat or rancid semen. The only complaint someone could come up with is the bed I got might have had a sumo wrestler in it the night before. Which I didn't even really mind cause it wasn't like it hurt my back or made it difficult to fall asleep. The air conditioner even went on at the perfect time.... I'm writing this review from the fucked up bed in my Motel 6 room which is painted the MOST OBNOXIOUS COLOR EVER KNOWN TO MAN. This bed is fucking horrific. I want to cry. What a gem in the night. Passing through from Bedford, Tx heading to Arizona we called because of the great ratings this place has. For the price nothing compared to this cute and remodeled room in any of the cities we passed through Do not go to Motel 6 or any others if you are anywhere near The Taylor. They held our room for us because we were driving in the dark and could not get to our credit card. There is carport parking beside the rooms and each unit is separate from others are far as common walls. On the inside we were stunned to find a high end bathroom, comfy bed and pillows, frig, table, bench and micro. About the bathroom; whoever remodeled it really knew what they were doing. We used to remodel in Scottsdale, Ax and this work is better than most. I don't think children would fit in the rooms as they are one queen or two twins. We also had a recommendation on a good restaurant close by who also accommodation for our late arrival. That was RJ's Grill. read more

This little motel is literally why I love road trips. I LIVE for the little privately/family owned motel that is modestly priced but comfortable, safe, pleasant, and has character. Just stayed here last night on a cross-country road trip by myself and I loved it. I arrived at 11pm and a very nice man checked me in and chatted with me for a while- I wish I had gotten his name but he was very sweet. The room was simple but pleasing and clean. The bed was actually really comfortable, the sheets perfectly white and very soft, and there was a fridge, and maybe a microwave? Bathroom was clean and cute and stocked with the usual essentials. Now will you believe me when I tell you the price was $35?! GET OUT OF TOWN I DIED OF JOY. The Taylor Motel should be the gold standard for all budget motels. Thank you, Van Horn! I was looking to stay overnight in Van Horn as it was midway between Phoenix and Houston. I looked up places online and had to pick between $120-150 for lovely major hotel chains and $60-80 for low tier hotels that had many negative reviews online. I was almost about to give up my search when I randomly found Taylor Motel. No negative reviews, ravingly positive ones, and a cheaper price point ($50 for one bed that fits two people). The price was concerning but I decided to give it a try. I had to make a reservation by calling, which was an easy process. I came in at around 9pm to a "lobby" that was plain, and we were greeted by a woman in her pajamas. She was kind and checked us in quickly. The guy who checked us out the following day was also very friendly. Van Horn seemed very deserted when we arrived, which made me wonder if I stayed at a safe place in town. But then I saw that the other guests had parked their fancy Mustangs and F150 truck, so I felt better knowing that other people were around. In the morning as I left and saw more people and activity around, I could attest that it was indeed a safe place. Since there are car parks (which is big vehicle covered parking btw) that separate the rooms from each other, there was never an issue about hearing neighboring guests. The floors were relatively thin but again I wasn't worried because I knew I wasn't bothering anyone downstairs (there are no second floors). The floor, room and bathroom were simple but very clean, almost to the standard of major hotels. The bedsheets were pristine upon inspection. They had complimentary bar soaps, shampoo and conditioner, which smelled nice. There was a microwave, a square table with two chairs, a mini fridge that was slightly bigger than the typical in hotels, and plenty of space in a dresser that was also clean. They also had a cute printed out TV guide on paper, which tempted me to turn the TV on and reminisce what it was like to use TVs before the advent of Netflix and Hulu lol. It took a few minutes for the air conditioner to cool up the room, but soon it got so cold that I found myself hoping for thicker blankets! The only con is that you can hear the trains pass by every now and then at night, but then again you'll get that anywhere you stay in Van Horn. The free breakfast was also nothing special (just snacks and coffee) but overall it was a great experience for the price point! Will be posting this review to remind myself to stay here again the next time I find myself in the region. read more

What a hidden gem! After reading the Yelp reviews we decided to give this place a shot! $36.00 for tonight was shocking! We arrived around 10:45pm. There is a parking area right next to the room which makes it feel homey! The rooms are super cute and the bathroom is adorable! The beds are super comfy, the carpet is new and soft, there's a brand new flat screen tv, the ac works great, there's a microwave and frig that seem new too.
