They knew this might happen and never informed a guest. I had to go to a meeting and then drive six hours with soap all over me until my next hotel in Austin. Reallly nice hotel! Over 20 years old but fully refurbished. Room A/C was busted but they comp'd the room! In the interim they offered us an additional fan but the heat was pretty robust in the middle of night in June. Breakfast and the breakfast location was quick, tidy and clean. Super friendly staff personnel. Upon checking out, they apologized for the inconvenience and to me, that meant a lot. The lobby has a Lysol Wipe 'station' (near the coffee station) which was a nice touch to offer sanitation capabilities as in 'wipes' so I appreciated that. Additionally, lots of small food/drink items to purchase right at the front counter which honestly was a vast array of items I've not seen in larger hotels, KUDOS. Lastly, the parking lot was in upgrade fashion and looks like they were finishing up installing 8 Tesla charging stations. I can't report on charge costs but I understand you have to be a hotel guest to utilize. Overall, very worthwile location to recommend! read more

Nice enough, clean, bright, even looks like it was updated. Our only complaint is that the walls are paper thin. I knew what was happening in the rooms on both sides. Breakfast wasn't something I'll write home about. On the good side the coffee was fairly good. Location is fine...no highway traffic noise. The biggest plus....the staff, very friendly and helpful. Stopped at the Tesla Supercharger, which is in their parking lot, and walked in to see see about restrooms and snacks. The sign on the door says that restrooms are for customers only. The front desk agent said the lobby was as well. There were also a couple of sheriff's vehicles in front, clearly there for a call of some sort. Seems like they are missing an opportunity to sell snacks and refreshments by making it clear that non-guests are not welcome, which I find interesting because they are in the hospitality business. This hotel is about halfway between my home and San Marcos TX, where I have a convention to attend. They are in the middle of remodeling the hotel and the new rooms are small but really nice. I have to laugh at a lot of the one-star reviews here as they aren't about the hotel itself but that they won't let people use the restrooms and lobby while charging their electric cars. The hotel is under NO obligation to let you sit in the air conditioning or use the restrooms just because there is a charging station in the parking lot. You are not paying to stay at the hotel, so why should they let you use the facilities while you wait. I just don't get it as this is a nice place, and I will be staying again in the future if I come this way. read more

My husband and I are diamond members, but will not use this location. They made an agreement with Tesla to have their chargers which boosts their business. The amenities listed include snacks, coffee, restrooms and rooms. I was refused restroom access. Petty and doesn't seem like their holding us to their advertisement. read more

The hotel itself seemed to be pretty clean overall and the front desk staff we encountered at check in and check out were friendly. Rooms get a sticker placed between the door jamb and the door so you know it has been cleaned - when you enter the room, the sticker tears. This gave me great confidence that this would be a clean room, but when we got inside we noticed a couple of things that were unsettling. First, the dust on the nightstand, furniture, alarm clock, etc. seemed to indicate that they haven't been cleaned in a while. So, I give the benefit of a doubt that maybe that room had been vacant for a while, but there was no vacancy when we checked in so I don't really believe that's the case. Fortunately we had planned to wipe down surfaces when we got there, but this wasn't a good sign to us. The part that grossed us out was that there was hair on the floor in the bathroom. As in multiple pieces of different hair types (some tight and curly, others medium and wavy, short ones in the back of toilet seat). So, if they did in fact clean that bathroom floor and toilet, then that's a big issue. When we checked out I did mention this to the front desk rep. She apologized, said she'd find out who cleaned that wrong last time and see what's going on, then offered me a gift card for fifteen bucks at the local grocery store. Also, we passed a couple of housekeepers working in other rooms and none had masks on. With recent Covid19 concerns, I would think that this group of workers would wear masks as they enter multiple rooms a day and could be easily exposed (and carry to other rooms unknowingly). Breakfast in the morning was different - not faulting them for Covid19 restrictions, but they had frozen breakfast tacos (you had to pick up and closely inspect the bags to find the stamp showing what kind they were,so they had been handles quite a bit by others) and pancake wrapped sausage on a stick, all individually wrapped but with no heating instructions (1 minute was too long). Bread was packaged in serving sizes too, which was nice. Coffee choices and small apple juices were available for drinks - no milk option. Not sure if we'll keep our reservation for the trip back home just yet. I'd be remiss to not mention some pros: comfortable beds, great air conditioning that held 68 degrees all night, convenient location in the middle of nowhere, located right near off/on ramps but not noisy, some snack options available for purchase in the lobby and friendly staff. read more

To be honest we didn't stay there. Why? Well even tho we're members and generally do favor the Hilton/Hampton Inn group, this one wasn't nice. The desk clerk seemed surprised we wanted to see a room before booking ( we were on a driving trip) and had to interrupt eating her fast food to show us. I guess we imposed on her, but wait.......isn't that her job???? Or maybe her apathy was a marketing technique because she knew that once we saw the depressing tiny shabby Queen room ( this Hampton has no King beds - say what?!?!) we'd pass. I could have paid a whole lot less money and got the same crappy room. We purposely chose what we thought was going to be the best hotel in Van Horn because we were traveling and wanted to make sure we got a good nights sleep. The hotel itself was in good condition. The desk clerk was hard to understand and we had to ask him a few times what he was saying because he mumbled a lot. Here's the bad stuff. First of all the queen bed was more like a double bed and it was squeaky and uncomfortable. It sank in the middle and the pillows were flat. It also had a really thick comforter and only a sheet. So you were either too hot or too cold. One of the nearby rooms had pipes that would squeal every time the occupant turned them on. There were also several dogs in the hotel that would bark at various times. There was a car who's alarm would go off every couple of hours. In the end we got the worst nights sleep that we've had in a long time even though we thought that getting a so-called good hotel would have prevented that. read more

Terrible hotel with poor customer service. I am a Diamond Hilton member and tried to use the restroom while charging my Tesla and was refused because I wasn't a paying customer. I was told that the Tesla app shows there are no amenities but that is clearly false because I included a screenshot from the Tesla app that contradicts the service. It's a shame when local franchises ruin the name of a national chain. read more

Driving from California to Bastrop we needed a pet friendly hotel during the Pandemic and came across Hampton Inn in Van Horn , we were pleasantly surprised to find everything was very clean and comfortable and way more than what we expected. Microwave and fridge provided with every tv channel you could hope for . In the morning a continental breakfast was provided . Sometimes in small towns accommodations that have good reviews are hard to find and we even considered driving to the next town to have a better selection to.choose from but were to tired from the long drive. If your ever passing through Texas or like me moving here and you need a safe, warm and pleasant environment this is the place. The rooms are clean and the showers are amazing after a 12 hour drive. Their continental breakfast is fresh and the cooks are very polite.. The front desk staff was amazing during check in and David (if he's a real person and not a bot) sent me a text message to see if I needed anything and that was nice to see them checking on guest. They require a 72 hour cancellation and even with that, you must fight to get your money back. They do not automatically reimburse you. You must call to get the manager to manually reimburse it. The email, website, and app clearly say 72 hours cancellation policy. The front desk tried to tell me that the weekend doesn't count and must 3 be business days in advance. It's not worth the hassle. In addition, on previous stays the hotel keys did not work on the outside doors and every other time did not work on the hotel room door. read more

We stopped here twice to use the Tesla super chargers. Both times the young man at the front desk was so professional and kind. He was so friendly and polite to us. After another long day on the road, my husband and I decided to stop here for the night. I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio is a quiet stretch of road and we wanted to make sure we could get a good night's rest before continuing. I booked the Hampton Inn because it is a pet-friendly hotel and my husband is a Hilton Honors member and likes to rack up the rewards points whenever he can. I booked the room online. A double double standard room was $140/night which is kind of steep for what you get. The room itself was clean and nicely appointed for a Hampton Inn. There is a small writing desk, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a tiny coffee pot. The beds and pillows are comfy and clean. The woman working the front desk was so friendly and helpful. They offer free breakfast and coffee in the lobby. The walls seem pretty thin. I could hear the guests across the hall and their dog pretty clearly. The woman at the front desk gave us a better rate than what we got online, but my credit card is now showing two charges for the same room, one at the higher price and one at the lower price. I also see a charge of 14.99 for booking online. I'm sure they will fix it, but it's inconvenient. I would have given it a higher rating if they stay had been cheaper. read more

We reserved this hotel thinking it would be a good choice in our road trip. Hampton Inn usually has good standards. Not this hotel. The hotel is rundown and not up to par for this property. We went to our room and stepped out if the elevator and the hallway was like a sauna. Got to the door if our room and there was a huge gash/ hole in the door. Opened the door and the room reeked of urine smell. Room. 203 to ge exact. The decor is extremely out dated and looks as if it hasn't been updated for 20 years. Sat on the beds and mattresses were super saggy and worn. Thinking maybe the rooms were in the process of being updated, we asked if there was a room that was more up to date and the out us in 103. But it was exactly the same except it smelled like smoke instead if urine. Don't stay here. read more

I was skeptical staying here after seeing the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! Our room was clean, the staff was friendly, and we were able to sleep in peace! They have an indoor pool that is PERFECT! It was so warm and soothing... the only downfall is the laughably tiny towels provided! There is a jacuzzi, but unfortunately it was broken during our one night stay. I had seen a review complaining about breakfast, but it was great! They had cereal, fruit, breads like bagels and cinnamon rolls, omelettes, sausages and lots of drinks. I didn't see any bugs. read more

The thermostat was awful, our room never cooled down sufficiently, and the front area was hot also. It looks a little old and shows some wear, but some things have been updated. The front has been remodeled and looks like an updated Hampton Inn. The halls and room look a little older. The staff was nice and helpful when we asked for help with our thermostat. I used to work in hotels so the environment is very familiar to me. The hotel was what you expected. It could use a refresh but was a clean hotel. The thing I want to note is the staff. The gentleman behind the counter was very friend and very helpful. I wish I remembered his name because he really was trying to go above and beyond. I had rented a room with 1 queen bed as they had no doubles. I assumed there would be a couch and I would sleep on that and let my dad take the bed. When I arrived I found out the room didn't have a couch. To my surprise the man checking in next to me over heard my conversation and offered his room but it turned out his too was a single without a couch. Even though it didn't work out, I was floored by that offer. I have lived in cities most of my life where most people are in their own worlds. The gentleman working at the hotel told me there were no more rooms left but tried hard to switch us into a double to no avail. He then offered to bring us a rollaway bed, so it solved the problem. 1:50 am'ish... On a road trip with the kids and needed a hotel in the wee hours of the night, so we called this place. A woman answered and asked a bunch of questions... Hilton honors #? (I give it again, since I had JUST punched it in during the automated part of the call)... "business or personal?" ... personal. How many?" 2 adults, and 2 kids. "How many kids?" I say, "TWO... two kids, and two adults". "One or two beds?" I start to answer, and she cuts me off... "Oh, I guess you need two, since you have the kids". "Can, I put you on hold for a minute to check vacancies?" I say, "sure" 1 minute passes... 2 minutes pass... 3 minutes pass... 4 minutes pass... 5 minutes pass... call ends. So, I call back again, and the phone gets picked up, (after automated questions part), and IMMEDIATELY put me on hold. We just let it run its course and it hangs up at 5 mins. At this point, we have arrived at the hotel (2 am)... I get out of the car to go up to the door, to see... "Sorry, no vacancy". Maybe they could have just told us that in the first minute of the first phone call? read more

Located in a really small town in the far western portion of Texas, this was a welcome stop after a long day on the road. The desk clerk was very cheery and seemed pleased that we were staying in "her" hotel. Ample parking for the truck and trailer and a very active freight line close by that lulled us to sleep. Power out previous day. We arrived to no internet, no big deal; pool area, hallways, entry ways- littered with HUNDREDS of dead crickets and wasps. The stairwells also are filthy with dead bugs. Vending machines EMPTY, 8 empty slots and one bag of mini Oreos. After driving 7 hours we looked forward to a CLEAN room, personal life catchup on social media, some snacks - NOTHING/ there's nothing here but dead bugs. We were not allowed to check in until check in time and blamed housekeeping for not letting them know rooms were ready. Magically at check in time all were ready. I know a lot of hotels do this and I don't like it. If a room is ready let weary travelers have it. The shower was disgusting. Mostly just old and no upkeep I looked up and was afraid the ceiling was going to cave in from a leak from long ago. Room 109. The room smelled old and musty. Wasn't sure bed comforter cover or whatever they call them now since bed spreads are gone was clean. Looked dirty. Just way to much money for this level of old worn out stuff or possibly cleanliness. Hard to tell. Hostess was nice a bright spot but not enough to ever come back. read more
