Carolina's pieces are handmade from recycled or reclaimed materials, which adds to their charm. I stopped by her both on my way to work at the MIT craft fair to buy a gift for a friend. I liked it so much, that I went back in the afternoon to buy two more items. I love the piece I bought for myself and I know the lucky recipients will love them as well. The items I saw were very reasonably priced; well under similar artesian pieces and she seems genuinely excited to share her art with others. The studio is in a lovely old warehouse, (the Landing at Chelmsford Mills) and is part of Nova Arts Studio which includes studios for artists making jewelry, moisturizers, embroidery, and print making. My appointment was frustrating and disappointing, embarrassing and humiliating. The moment I walked in the door, they demanded my license and medical insurance. First thing! When I said that this visit was not covered, she projected across the store, loudly, "Not cancer." The mood changed. The owner then gave me a short interview, grabbed a bunch of bras, put in the fitting room and told me to go at my own pace,and call her when I needed help. NO MEASUREMENTS! After three unanswered calls for assistance, I put on the little robe they provided and went to look for her but the UPS man was right there! I ran back into the fitting room, gathered my things and went to find her. She immediately pawned me off on someone else and began helping another client. When the owner realized that I wasn't going to put several triple digit costing bras on an insurance, I was not worth her time. I seem to remember, I may be wrong but, in Amherst they gave a small discount to those without insurance. It didn't matter why we came to her. Wigs, compassion was all available years ago. A customer that returns over the years would spend as much as a cancer patient with insurance but I will never return. So if you don't have cancer insurance you will get better service at Macy's.
