Within days, the truck failed the Massachusetts state safety inspection for major issues including: * Bad ball joints and tie rods * Broken side mirrors * Steering concerns * Suspension and emissions failures These weren't cosmetic issues -- they were safety violations that made the truck illegal to drive. Before the inspection, I had already raised concerns about the steering. I was told it was "just a wheel balance" and brushed off with "Are you a mechanic?". I was also promised in writing that repairs would be handled once the bank funded the deal. After they got paid, they delayed registration for nearly a month, preventing me from getting it inspected within the state's Lemon Law window. That's not just frustrating -- it's deceptive. By the time I could inspect it, I had to pay over $2,500 out of pocket for parts, labor, and a wheel alignment -- just to make the truck safe and legal. Now, after providing receipts, the failed inspection report, and documented communication, I've been ignored. Since posting about my experience, I've received multiple statements from other customers who say they also received vehicles with incorrect or unsafe parts installed. That's a pattern -- not a one-off. I'm not someone looking for a handout. I'm self-employed, sober 7 years, and a father of four -- including a newborn. I did what I had to do to keep my family safe. I came to the shop for alignment, an exhaust quote, and maybe smoothing the front rotors. Came out with half an alignment, an exhaust quote, new brake fluid, and other brake work to save up for. The Good: Very friendly, approachable sales and mechanical staff. Lots of show cars and happy customers on display. Reasonable with cost of work and parts. Called me back like they said they would. Clean shop, looks comforting. They did find a brake fluid leak I missed, and didn't give me a hard time about doing that work myself. The Meh: I paid for 4w alignment only to find they just adjusted the front/rear toe. No other shop had trouble with front camber, but this one said it "can't be adjusted on this car". No call to say that, and evasive about whether they tried and lost to rust -- or if they just didn't know it was adjustable. But that's what I paid them for... I guess they also inspected my air filter, because I found it wasn't closed all the way. A sudden extra roaring sound when I left should have been hard to miss. Verdict: My car is 18 years old, and though it looks its age I love it. But I hoped for more than I got from this shop.

Friends of mine who are from Winthrop suggested that I go to Expert Auto, so I tried them out when I needed a state inspection and again when I needed a tire replaced. They have been fair with pricing, (like I was actually shocked that I didn't have to haggle or question the price they were giving me) and have been great at communicating what my car needs. When I have brought it in to see what is causing an issue, they repair what is necessary and don't go overboard just trying to make more money. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when speaking to them on the phone. I have been dropping my car off with a key outside of business hours and picking it up after hours since I work M-F 9-5. I always receive a call with updates and a price estimate the next day and can usually pick up my car the day after that. I trust Expert Auto to do a great job with repairs, at a reasonable price and will continue to use them as my mechanic and suggest them to friends in the area!
