We payed about $275 as a special for our first time there and we got a pretty good sized return. Everything went very smoothly and we decided to go back the year after. Just like the first time we set an appointment and 40 minutes later we were done however we had to pay almost $100 more since I had a bit of extra paperwork and more forms had to be filled out. Although it hurt to pay the extra $100 for one form we payed it since we still got a good return. My wife and I decided to go the year after again. This time it was completely different. We set an appointment and were there 10 minutes early and our agent told us they were just finishing up with their previous appointment and would be right with us. Just as our agent was finishing up with the previous appointment another person came in and our agent let us know that they had to take this person before us but would be done shortly. When the agent wrapped up with this person it was 45 minutes after our appointed time. My wife and I were a bit annoyed by this but we wanted to just get our taxes done and did not want to reschedule to get it done. Just like the previous times in about 40 minutes time we were done however this time around it cost us about $50 to $60 more expensive than the last time and we had less forms to fill out this time. We decided to do it since we spent all that time but I figured it was time to find another place to do it. I spoke with a coworker of mine and they told me they used turbo tax to file theirs and had been doing so for years and never had a problem with it. I decided what the heck and bought the $70 turbo tax and tried to file my taxes myself. It walked me through all the forms and questions that I had been asked while my taxes were being done at liberty. After I finished all of them I ended up getting more money from turbo tax with the same amount of paperwork that i took to liberty. From that moment on I have continued to use Turbo tax and will not go back.

First off, HR Block cannot transfer online records to their brick and mortar offices. This is baffling, as they're such a large company they should be able to access my customer records regardless. Secondly, The representative that I worked with (Mohammed) was very unprepared for the meeting. He asked no questions about my financial history. He came off as knowledge-less of the intricacies of tax preparation - not the feeling you want from your tax professional. Our 1 hour meeting took 1:45. Luckily I was organized with my documentation, or else we would have been there for 3 hours. His computer skills were horrendous; typing with 1 finger at a time, he made several errors entering just my personal information. Only because I was over his shoulder and correcting him was I able to move the meeting along. I continued to break down my own documentation into more detail to speed the process along, but it didn't help. Thirdly, in the course of this extremely long, uninformative, uninspiring meeting, my refund amount changed 4 TIMES. I'm not talking about the "potential refund" amount that changed as we went through the process; Mohammed told me what my refund would be 4 times, differently, and asked me to sign paperwork. Another professional had to come over and help him, and even then there was confusion and uncertainty. This was extremely disconcerting. How can I be confident that my return was done correctly? Lastly, There was no disclosure about the fees for their preparation. It cost $240 for my federal and state preparation. They gave me $20 off the preparation fee "because we feel bad" about the service level. Had I known that this was the service level at this price, I would have QUICKLY turned around and saved money doing it myself. Which is essentially what I did anyways. In essence, H&R should have paid me by the hour to be there. I was not confident in my service and I'll be having another, better-vetted tax pro look at our returns. I'm not returning to this office, or H&R Block in general, again for tax services.
