Whatever you do, avoid this place. They prey on tourists, trick you into ordering "local favorites" (always the most expensive items on the menu), and, when you return the food because it's absolutely horrible, they will not credit you back and offer to fix you something else. Also, the staff is totally inattentive.

This was our (very boozy) dessert

I've been in Venice three times: twice in the summer and then once during the winter. Of all these trips, my January trip was the best! Italy was a different experience altogether. It makes sense, as the rest of the year the cities are packed with-- and basically overwhelmed by-- tourists; so this review is true for an almost empty Taverna Capitan Uncino, into which myself and a couple of Catalan friends walked in to find some of the friendliest servers (and restaurant owners) I've ever come across. The food was great: we had a baked fish that was very tasty & fresh and then some home made pasta that was also very good. For dessert we had a (apparently very popular in the Veneto) drink made with yellow lemon and sparkling wine. It looks like and even has the consistency of a vanilla shake, but tastes very differently! If someone reading this knows what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate it if you share the name with me. A good lunch made better by the company and then absolutely memorable by the restaurant staff. That's a new one everywhere, I guess, but unheard of in Italy! I guess this place offers a different experience the rest of the year but, in winter, we felt like we struck gold!

The pumpkin flan was a true experience of sweet and savoriness. I couldn't stop eating the ratatouille; it was such a delicious treat. I was able to have a conversation with the chef after our meal, and she encouraged my excitement to experiment and try my hand at some of these dishes at home. I wish I lived in Venice, so I could have La Zucca regularly. They only had one reservation spot for the days we were in Venice, so I definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time.

The seating made it completely worth it, though--we were seated right by the canal water and had a gorgeous view throughout our meal! The servers were very pleasant, though navigating the menu takes a little extra effort. The menu is in Italian and changes regularly. While they do provide a translation menu, I ended up using my phone to translate most of it myself. For dietary restrictions, they do mark allergy items, though there aren't very many gluten-free options available. To drink, I ordered an Aperol Spritz. For food, I had the carrot soup and a plate of two sides: ratatouille and zucchini. The soup and the zucchini were both delicious! One of my friends ordered the linguine, but unfortunately found it to be overly salty. Overall, it's a lovely spot for a scenic lunch by the water, especially if you enjoy a lively atmosphere and don't mind navigating a changing Italian menu.

Get lost in Venice and found this restaurant. It is right at the corner of a quiet courtyard…read moreneighborhood. The waiter is very friendly and invite us to have lunch, and menu price look reasonable so let's go for it. We ordered clam and mussels. So amazing and yummy, especially the soup! I really want to finish all of it. The scallop spaghetti is also very yummy. I love this place. Good vibe, friendly service, and most important is the food quality. 5 stars for sure. For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!

Both were served with a a mound of fresh cut potatoes, grilled vegetables and two sauces to dip into. We barely used the dips as everything was seasoned to perfection. No steak sauce needed as the steak was well seasoned and served hot. We also have a bottle of white wine and tried the lasagna for our starter. Everyone at the table was happy with this option for dinner. Also this is not fancy dinner but still dining at its fines. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Definitely get the Lombatello steak if you are feeling carnivorous…read more Throngs of lively people sipping wine and snacking on cichetti late into the evening along the canal. The cichetti selection looked very good (variety thinned out throughout the night), but our party of 3 was starving and we opted to sit inside for a late ~8:30pm dinner. We got one order of grilled lamb and the Lombatello steak for 2. The lamb was also good, no gamey taste. The Lombatello steak was simply fantastic, choose this cut specifically!! A heaping pile of medium-rare meat (cannot buy single portions) that was very tender and flavorful. It's cushioned with steak fries and grilled veggies on the side. Paired with two glasses of house wine, this meal was fantastic. Ended up with a to go box of steak and fries. Servers are very busy, bustling around clearing tables, taking orders, etc, but they are vigilant if you need anything. We saw one table of ~10 order a steak platter, and it was a sight to behold - a massive wooden cutting board packed with steak, transported by two waiters.
