This review is specifically about my experience renting from Alan Tauber, though I suspect any Tauber building is similarly 'managed'. Of course hindsight is 20/20, and looking back, there were warning signs that weren't heeded. But personal circumstances led me to rationalize them and it came back to bite me in the a**. Upon moving in, I discovered neither the security intercom nor the oven worked. It took several months of repeated phone calls to get the oven fixed, although 'fixed' meant it took multiple tries and click-click-clicking before it would ignite. It was a similar situation for the buzzer/intercom repair. In this case it took years of requests and complaints. A repairman would show up, look at it, fix one part, say he would come back to finish the job, and it would be months (and multiple emails) before the cycle repeated. There were LEAKS in the ceiling every time it rained heavily (and I didn't live on the top floor). There was also the time one of the other apartments started on fire and the fire department had to break down the front door of the building to get in. It took months of repeated complaints to "management" and 311 before the lock on the front door was replaced. And of course, the occasional DEAD RAT on the front stoop. But all of that pales compared to the COCKROACH problem. They stayed hidden for awhile when I first moved in and by the time I realized there was problem in the building it was too late. They were huge! They were everywhere - in the kitchen cabinets, the closets, the vents in the bathroom, and the basement where there was a washer and dryer (that prompted me to schlep my clothes to a laundromat). They would sashay across the living room floor like they were working a red carpet. They were in the hallway of the building. I was too embarrassed to have guests because I didn't want a roach to make an appearance while someone was visiting. The last straw was when I opened the silverware drawer and one was on top of the forks! For the last 4 months I lived there I refused to go in the kitchen or open the cabinets/drawers because I was so traumatized. I moved to a well-maintained building and months later, I am still scared to open the kitchen cabinets because of living in Alan Tauber's roach motel! (By this time I had figured out it would be wise to document *everything* and decided to photograph each roach I saw/killed. I've uploaded just a few pictures for your viewing pleasure and to prove I am not exaggerating.) The nightmare did not end when I moved out. As was the case with many of the other commenters, Alan Tauber REFUSED TO RETURN MY SECURITY DEPOSIT. I filed a complaint with the Attorney General and enlisted an attorney to help me but he bullied me and threatened to ruin my credit. (How would that work when he owed me money?) For months, Tauber refused to return the money until finally I sued him. He lied under oath and claimed I caused damage to the apartment in attempt to avoid returning the money. Thankfully, the Judge saw through his lies and ruled in my favor. He lied when he finally returned my money, too; claiming he was going to pay it back all along. This man is Shady with a capital 'S'. He will ignore your repair requests and if you're lucky enough for him to actually do something about a complaint it will be done as cheaply as possible. You will have to fight him tooth and nail to get your security deposit back. "Run-around" Kira S----, his office manager, is rude and will give you every excuse in the book as to why something can't be done (i.e. the 'run-around'). The only positive thing I can say is that he responded quickly when I complained about MICE in the apartment. tl; dr: Avoid at all costs! Renter beware!! In February, they were notified that Verizon will no longer service the copper wires used for the WiFi that hosts the payment system for our laundry cards. They knew they would need to get a new internet service provider. It is now June and our payment system has been out of commission for 3 weeks and we have no way to reload our laundry cards to do laundry. Sackman's solution is for us to go to their office on W 73rd st to fill our cards. This is absolutely unacceptable, as this laundry room is their responsibility to maintain.

When they found out I wasn't renewing my lease (after they raised the rent almost $500) they ignored my calls for weeks on end. And when I moved the remainder of my furniture a day late they kept my entire deposit. They lied and said it was because they had an open house they'd have to cancel, but that wasn't true and nothing was ever scheduled. I know of someone who abruptly quit working them. The manger is rude and will hang up on you. Their rent is overpriced! The floors are paper thin and you hear stomping from neighbors, the heater doesn't work and you'll spend winter months freezing. Not worth it. Good riddance sackman

ok so I don't really write reviews but felt like i should for these guys. I have 2 properties in NJ…read more(one in kearny area, one further out) and was having a really hard time keeping up with everything especially the compliance stuff which honestly goes over my head half the time. Someone referred me to RPPM and I called them kind of skeptical bc I've had bad experiences before with management companies that just take your money and don't really do much. But these guys are different. John was straight with me from the jump, explained everything they do, didn't oversell it. They handled some violation issues I had pending and I didn't have to stress about it. Communications with my tenants have been way more professional than when I was doing it myself lol. I used to just text my tenants which I know is not the right way to do it. Only thing I'd say is sometimes I wish they responded a little faster but honestly when they do get back to me everything is thorough and correct so I think its just they are busy and doing things right rather then rushing. Not really a complaint just something I noticed. Overall very happy. Would def recommend to other landlords in NJ especially if your portfolio is growing and you cant manage everything yourself anymore. 5 stars from me
