Advance is the one and only tattoo artist I have had and I will keep it that way for as long as possible. Had my first piece done when I was 16 (with parental permission) and just had my half sleeve finished up on 5/30/2024 (20+ years later). Goes above and beyond and each piece that I have. I bring him the concept and give him artistic leeway and the end results is always beyond anything I could have designed myself or even thought of. I can't speak to how pricing compares to others because I've never shopped around and know quality work from years of experience is priceless. The nicest and most professional guy possible but will be honest with you if something you want won't work or won't look good in the years to come. My recommendation, don't argue with his advice because he's looking out for your best interest. Safety and sanitation is top notch. I've spent many hours in the chair and still donate blood on a regular basis without issue. He is the true hidden gem when it comes to the tattoo world in Fremont. You would never know his shop existed unless someone told you or you've been there before. John, my BF is a great gift-giver. I like that his presents are thoughtful and not generic. This year one of my gifts was a trip to the tattoo parlor for my 2nd tattoo. Although I'm no ink addict, I had talked about wanting another tattoo; an emblem from the Filipino flag. Initially we'd chosen SF as the spot. He did my big star on my right leg and my mockingjay on my left leg last year my husband surprised me to get my mockingjay done and advances prices are very reasonable! He also touched up a tattoo I have oh my right arm the tattoo on my arm I had for at least 8 years and it was horribly faded looked dead pretty much! And advance fixed her up and she looks good as new again! The place I went to for my arm tattoo was twisted illusions in Hayward I went to phap he's a nice guy but I really do not like that he doesn't want to actually draw anything! Had my best friend bring me here for my 18th tattoo, and it's one of my best. Vance is a true professional, but also loves to joke around. The shop is small, and you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you about it (trust me, I used to work less than a block away, and lived slightly further for years and never knew the place existed). The price is originally what convinced me to go, as I got my tattoo quoted for less than half what another shop wanted for it, and the quality of work came out better than the other shop did. advance (yes, that is his name) is the MAN!!! my wife was referred to advance from a friend of hers. i had been wanting to add to an existing tat on my upper arm and through some design help from my wife & advance they came up with some really cool ideas which came out real well (summer 2008). he's very cool and relaxed and is easy to talk to. time kinda flies while you're sitting in the chair (my piece has taken 3 sessions at about 2-3 hours each time). the shop is very clean and has cool decorations all around. one bit of advice, you might want to just pop into his shop during his hours as that's the best way to reach him. his shop is solely him (he's the only artist), so he does get busy; especially during the spring/summer. you would think since he has the only shop in Fremont he would have ego and/or attitude (or just be lazy/unhelpful), but he does/is not! there's a reason he's been the only shop in Fremont for all this time; he's a true tattoo ARTIST. read more

I haven't been here in 10 years, so I'm not even sure it's run by Advance anymore. But if he's still inking, then you should go to him. He's a competent artist. the shop is clean. He always opened up new needles for me. I always had my artwork ready for him, so he just had to resize and transfer, but I had several friends go to him and he made the art for them. He works well in colors and just black! He knows what he's doing so I have never had to go back for touch ups. Amazing guy, did a band of ivy around my ankle. It was reasonably priced and only took 45 minutes. I had the option of squishy-squeezy toys if I needed them (I did, he is slightly heavy-handed, but it's worth it for the beautiful art). I will definitely be going back, maybe for some lettering. He's very funny, too. I did a quick drawing of what I wanted and showed him. He looked at it and said "Yeah, I can definitely do that. Much better, but yeah." Just this afternoon I had tattoos done by Advance. I had areole tattoos done 8 years ago by my plastic surgeon after breast reconstructions. They had faded horribly and I wasn't happy. I received a recommendation to try Tattoos by Advance by another plastic surgeon so I called for an appointment that afternoon. Advance has a one-room shop and works by appointment only. His shop is clean and comfortable, and private and he put me at ease immediately as we discussed what I wanted. We decided to add a hummingbird and he showed me a few drawings to get an idea of what I had in mind. Picked one out very quickly and he got to work. He checked on me pretty often to make sure I was doing alright. All in all it was a really good experience. It was a random Tuesday for me, had the urge to get a tattoo after many years of thinking. Initially, I went to inkies due to seeing so many ads and seeing their ship on Fremont Blvd. All I I can say, thank god they were closed (though according to the hours posted, they should have been open!). I looked up other tattoo places and stumbled upon this gem. I walked over from inkies thinking it would just be a sketch if he was available. When I walked in, he greeted me and I felt at ease. The owner asked if I wanted to just do a sketch today and come back later for tattoo or do both today. Knowing how I'll chicken out, I decided to go with it! He made it so relaxing for me and continued having conversation to ease my anxiety. 2.5 hours later, I walked out with my tattoo! Best decision ever! This is a great place to get a tattoo. He is very personable and not scary like you see at most places. He makes you feel comfortable and puts you at ease. He does great work. as well as helps you create your own personal designs. My tattoo is almost ten years old and it looks great. It has a lot of large red sections in it which is known for fading.
