I was scared at first to get a tattoo...Its something I have wanted to do because it's been on my bucket list of things to do by the time I turn 40. Well I turned 40 a several months ago and I figured I would have it mean something to me if I am going to sit through hours of torture by needles (an illustration of my Laoatian birth name, which means waterlily in the year of the Tiger). The 3 water lilies represent my 3 children, protected/guarded by their mother (me, I was born in the year of the Tiger). The water symbolizes her love, strength, and spirit, nurturing and reflecting in the water, where her lilies thrive. Sunn listened to what I wanted and he understood that it was important that I designed it myself. Being an artist as well, I have often given away original artwork as gifts to friends and/or family. Rarely did I do artwork for myself that I would keep. So this would be one belated birthday gift to myself. Sunn did a fantastic job with shading, outline, and talked me through the process and how much pain I would endure (which wasn't bad considering it was my first time, but then again I also went through 53hrs of labor pain with the birth of my son, getting a tattoo is only a fraction of that type of pain). Sunn made tolerating needle pain easy as he has skillful hands and knows how to treat each and every intricate line carefully and meticulously. I rarely, if at all bled from his tattoo gun. He uses quality ink and products and also went over skincare to help keep my tattoo clean and looking fresh. Sunn did a fantastic job with keeping the idea and concept I had with the sketch I did quickly while on a plane to see him. His brilliant shading technique, artistic talent, and control with the needle gun has made this one memorable milestone that I am proud to share with my friends and family. Some I want very small and not detailed just simple and black: for example a heart, ankh etc. A couple others slightly larger but still relatively small but more detailed for example: a small rose with thorns.
