My Abuela Shine passed away 7 years ago and I have been trying to find the perfect piece to honor her. Scrolling on Pinterest as one does I finally stumbled upon a piece that spoke to me. Then I met with a wonderfully creative, talented man, Devin at tattoovoodoony who took and transformed it into the most beautiful piece of artwork I've ever seen. He collaborated with me and listened to everything I wanted while also giving much needed input. The idea of the sun for my Abuela Shine and the power and protection she always gives me in the same style as a Tarot card which she used to read for me over the years. This guy Devin who runs the place is an asshole. He tattooed a friend of mine who signed a waver that he won't tattoo you if you're intoxicated, yet he tattooed him anyway, collected his cash, and then called the police on him. What an asshole. Plus the tattoo was positioned right. Maybe it was his way of getting back at a person that had a drink since he's a straight edge? Either way the guy is a dick and not much of an artist. I would recommend staying away and choosing another tattoo polar where the artists are friendly and aren't NARC's. For a guy that is a straight edge, he certainly has a identify crisis. Great guy! Down to earth!!! Mostly(UNLESS U R A SUPER DICK) gets along w all ppl no matter their the type of tats they want..(and in the past I've experienced that some artists are icky towards peeps who don't want the same genre of tatt/art they like to ink)He seems excited to do anything and just to be working with any type of art/genre that u toss on his plate. I have gotten three tattoos from Devin and will definitely be going back for a fourth... annndd probably a fifth.. I have moved to Long Island since I started getting tattoos at Tattoo Voodoo, but still make the trip to be tattooed there since I have so much trust in Devin to make my tattoo the best it can be. Devin is super easy to communicate my ideas with. He always takes them into consideration and has my best interest in mind when creating the design. My friends and I all wanted matching tattoos of the ridge in new paltz. We called and explained that we were in the area and wanted to see if Devin could do it for us. Devin and Mina were so welcoming and super friendly when we walked in. He was finishing up someone else's tattoo but then he told us he would do ours right after. I was apprehensive about getting my first piercing but they did an incredible job of making it a great experience! The piercer explained how septums don't have to hurt if they can find the exact right spot where the membrane is really thin, and explained his whole process. He said he had over 25 years of experience and has also practiced piercing on himself many times to see what it feels like! He made sure to check in a couple times after claiming my nose to ask if I could feel the needle and because I couldn't he poked all the way through without it hurting. Everything went amazingly well from the first walk in regarding my tounge, talking about tattoo's I'd like to get to life. Devin is an amazing artist with decade's of experience to back both his portfolio and work up. Whether it's a piercing or a tattoo, when you have his time, he fully dedicates his time to you and you only. He makes you his priority, which is very rare anymore. The world has always been sort of an algorithm for me, so short of coloring in a coloring book there isn't a bit of creativity in me. I wasn't able to steer Shaun in the right direction, and even worse I was withholding the story behind the reason I'd actually decided to get the tattoo. The end result was AMAZING!!! People ask to see what's on my shoulder and there's always an audible "WOW THAT'S AMAZING" followed by where I'd gotten it. Devin is an incredible tattoo artist and pretty much the coolest person in Poughkeepsie. I wouldn't trust anybody else to do my tattoos. His work is amazingly realistic and affordable (which I appreciate as a broke college student). All of my tattoos from him have healed perfectly and his shop is always super clean. I went to Tattoo Voodoo for a coverup/rework of my old knuckle tattoos. Go. To. Tattoo. Voodoo! I love this place. Been inked by Shaun and pierced by Devin. Both are extremely informative, fun, but most importantly clean and awesome at what they do. Their pricing is fair, since they could totally jack their prices up with the college nearby.
