I got a tattoo at Karma last night and the experience, from start to finish, was excellent. I live locally and went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago with an idea in mind. Jesse, one of the owners, immediately greeted me and opened a conversation about the piece I wanted. After talking for a few minutes I knew I totally trusted him as a professional. This is my 7th tattoo and I think it's important to be discerning about where and by whom I will be tattooed. He drew me a custom piece a few days after my first visit and it was exactly what I envisioned. He took all of my feedback and aesthetic values and created a piece I was totally confident with and that suited me and my body type. He really created a comfortable space and made it clear that he would work on the drawing as much as he needed to to create a piece I would love. It is obvious he talented as well as passionate and takes a lot of care in his drawing, tattooing and is totally invested in the outcome-- and your experience. Getting the actual tattoo was awesome-- really easygoing. He was really attentive to making sure the stencil was exactly where I wanted it positioned. He's easy to talk to, but I also just got to lay in silence and enjoy being tattooed too which was what I was looking for. I absolutely love my new tattoo and wouldn't change anything about it or the experience I had. Even though I hadn't heard about this shop and just went in because I walk by it so often in Kingston I am grateful I chose it. The shop is truly beautiful (framed handmade artwork covers the walls), the music was good and did not overtake the space. In the past I've gotten tattooed in places where you couldn't even hear yourself think-- which isn't a bad experience but at this point in my life not the kind of setting I'm looking for. He was also very responsive via email which was very convenient. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, and will to any of my friends who are looking for great experience and a tattoo I know they'll love to have for the rest of their life. I will definitely be going back (so will my Fiance who joined me for the appointment last night and was so impressed that he is sold on going to Karma for next tattoo as well). from someone with not a ton of either-- totally worth your time and money. read more

I made an appointment with Emily Scott for September 2nd. I made the appointment in July. She never contacted me to let me know design was complete nor invite me in to see it. I stopped by today, for the third time, and she was not in. Usually I catch her on her day off, but today I was told she was out sick. I asked if I could get a refund on my $80 deposit and I was told that was nonrefundable for the artwork she created. I told the two men working that I had actually never seen the artwork. Then they told me it was policy not to show the artwork. It is also policy not to refund any deposits. When I walked out, a tall man with a lip ring chased me outside and threatened to call the police on me for being "out of control" but I was already off the premises. I asked him to stop threateningly following me and he did...but I can't believe he left a customer laying in the tattoo chair to chase me. I wouldn't leave this review but I'm hoping they'll refund my deposit as no services were actually rendered. read more

Karma Tattoo is without question the best tattoo shop I have ever been in. I have over 65 professionally done tattoos so I know what I'm talking about. When you walk in the door at Karma your immediately welcomed by Jackie who is always inviting and full of life. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The one thing you won't see at Karma that you see at just about every other tattoo shop is flash sheets, that's because every piece of art that comes out of Karma is custom done by Jesse. He will work side by side with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your tattoo. Jesse is a true artist in every sense of the word. I came here by chance with my friend who was a tattoo virgin. We were quickly made to feel right at home. Jesse is a mind reader, he gave us exactly what we were envisioning, even though my friend and I were getting dramatically different tattoos. And the fact that EVERY tattoo is custom is an amazing selling point. There's nothing more annoying then seeing your exact same tatt on another person. I could not be more pleased.
