My guy is from Iowa and for years in TX he's tried to find puffy tacos to no avail and now I understand why. Delicious original flour beef tacos and flour chips and queso. All for a nominal price as well. Please franchise out Tasty Taco to TX. read more

We loved our first visit to Tasty Tacos, a recommendation by a neighbor. No frills. Just a terrific cheap eat-stop on Ankeny's Delaware Road, minutes off Highway 35. Admittedly, I was concerned when I entered the restaurant, as there were two lines perhaps 10 deep each, but we were assured by a customer "not to worry," and he was spot on! Lots of options, but I elected to get their two originals, a flour, and a corn taco, and they rocked. Great pace to ordering, kind at the counter, excellent pricing. I never felt rushed or "just another customer." The flour taco was fluffy and tasty like I've had in Mexico, and the corn taco was also delicious. Enjoyed the taco sauce at the table, and the place was clean with good energy about it. I guarantee that I'm coming back and see why they're so popular with Des Moines/Ankeny locals.! read more

My friends and I stopped here on our way to Minneapolis last month and it was a good experience. I'm not into tacos but this place had really good steak tacos. I ordered a couple steak tacos and a fountain drink. The price wasn't too bad either. The taco's were fresh and tasty albeit the steak was a tad tough for me. All in all, this place was good. I would stop here again. read more

I've eaten Tasty Tacos original flour tacos since I was a kid, back when they were being sold out of a shed-turned-restaurant next to the road on Grand Avenue. A few years back I decided to try the bean tacos. They aren't bad if you're looking for a non-meat option. Tasy Tacos run specials on them for Lent, and you could do worse elsewhere, but that isn't the point of this review. Today I decided to change things up and ordered 2 chicken flour tacos. This was my first time ordering chicken tacos here. like to switch things up every once in a while and try something new. I wasn't expecting much from a chicken taco -- maybe some ground dark meat with some beans in it. I was totally wrong. What I got was seasoned strips of white meat with the lettuce and cheese that we expect from Tasty Tacos. FULL DISCLOSURE: I season my tacos using the sauce packets available as that sauce isn't as watery as their name brand sauce can be. I also ordered some sour cream. I find that one side of sour cream is sufficient for 2-3 tacos. My order was ready before I was done getting my napkins and sauce. The chicken was warm and there was plenty of it. The flavor of the chicken taco was amazing, possibly making it the best-tasting taco they offer, in my opinion. I will definitely be trying these chicken flour tacos again. To verify. For science. read more

The food at this location used to be good. The last few times we have been there the steak tacos were not good. Hard fatty pieces of steak ruined the taco. Disappointing. read more

Would be very healthy not serving ground up rodent n the meat. There was nasty taste of wild tasting meat in my tacos

Delicious! I had steak tacos in corn tortilla and my wife enjoyed the puffy flour tortillas with chicken! Amazing!!

First of all - if you do not like Tasty Tacos, you must not be from Des Moines. It's on the test to see who's really from Des Moines, and who is not. Everyone in Des Moines loves Tasty Tacos, and if you do not you must not be from here. I love Tasty Tacos. The beans, the meat, the flour tortilla -- it's a like a warm hug welcoming you home. I could eat these forever. If I was on death row I would order this. Their salsa on top makes this absolutely perfect. I'm not here for any taco snobs questioning the authenticity of these tacos. If you prefer a different style of taco -- good for you. Mexicans are a diverse group of people and tacos vary based on where you live. I can with 100% say with confidence that -- this is Des Moines' taco!! Thank you Mosqueda family for bringing this gift to the Des Moines community, I can't imagine Des Moines without it. read more

Ordered a platter of tacos for a work lunch --- delicious! They put beans in their beef and the shells are fried to perfection! Other reviews said this place wasn't as good as Taco Bell -- they're flat wrong. Anyone who would say that doesn't know a good taco on all levels. read more

First timer here at Tasty Tacos, not from around the area. If I was going to rate it on a scale out of 1-10 from price, environment and food here is how it would go. Food 8.8: The flour taco is pretty good I like the crisp to it and the ingredients on it were pretty good and it didn't have any after effects after eating it. Only docked the numbers because of grease from the meat Environment 8.4: Pretty authentic Mexican restaurant. They have a mural and peppers on the fans it really feels like your in a legit Mexican restaurant plus food came out pretty quick, only down side is that there is no music Price 7.1: The price was decent with the size of the tacos and how they were made. Personally I wish there $2.75 that would be a reasonable price. Average rating was a 8.1 would probably go here again if I was in town. P.S. put the taco sauce on for every bite makes it better read more

The Ankeny Tasty Tacos is a welcome option amongst the landscape of the usual national fast foods stores. The menu and service is consistently good with no bad selections to be found. Tacos (flour/flat bread or hard corn) burritos, enchiladas, and other quickly prepared and easily enjoyed items await you. Whatever you order, be certain to use the taco sauce available at your table - added to taco or nacho cheese, it is a great accent to your meal. Ankeny Tasty Tacos seems to always be busy and this visit was no different on a Friday night at almost 9pm. Half of the seating area was closed for cleaning and at least half of the booths were taken by diners, with a bunch of people standing around for their to go orders. The original flour taco is my favorite, followed by the chicken taco. Their service is usually very good and for the most part the restaurant is always very clean. I think the tables could be wiped down a little more frequently but as long as the last person cleans up after themselves we're good. read more

The name says it all. I have never had a bad experience at Tasty taco! They are locally owned and a welcome quick lunch when you are surrounded by the big corporate restaurant names. I would rather eat here than almost anywhere else along this Ankeny strip of road. There is not a bad thing on the menu. The staff are always helpful. The lady who took our order today was very sweet and she was quick to get everyone through the line. Today was my normal the juicy delicious pork flour taco and I tried the steak flour as well. Both delicious. I can't get over three light fluffy shells are too die for. Taco taco taco!!! read more

Tasty tacos is always a must stop for me whenever I am in the Des Moines area. At first glance, one might think this place is nothing special. I was skeptical at first-- there is no glitzy specials or advertising. But man, those tacos are some of the best I've had! The flour tortillas are fried -- so the outside is crispy and the inside soft. The meat doesn't have a ton of flavor or seasoning, but they offer a range of salsas and sauces! I love the steak and carnitas tacos the best. The cheese dip is nothing special. Just stick to tacos. The service is also fast and friendly. read more

Was told to only get one item. The taco. As explained, they do not call it tasty taco for their burritos. So I ordered the taco and it was in fact tasty. It's ground beef in a thin fry bead (which they call flour tortilla). You add the salsa and it all works. Can't say for the other fast food items, but the taco was great. read more

Ankeny tasty taco is the best place to cure a Mexican craving. Altho I can speak for everything on the menu the flour tacos are by far the best in town. I usually end up getting 3 of them to cure my hunger. I always get 1 chicken 1 pork one steak as I can never decide on just 1 or 2 kinds, remember to get sour cream if you like as it is sold separately. They do a great job being quick with meals and I can get in and out easily for lunch. They keep the place clean and usually are busy. I see that as a good thing for food this fast. Great local business doing the right thing I will continue to support when I can. read more

Tasty Tacos - The salsa is the best in town! I'm in love! - Mexican Near Me - Ankeny, Iowa

today purchased dinner at tasty tacos and after paying I saw a very small sign on the side of the cash register opposite of the side I was standing charging a handling fee for using a credit card....will not be returning have been eating tacos for 50+ years there no more. Hate being charged covertly why is there not a sign on the door or being told at the presenting of a card for payment. Meanwhile Apple Pay and an android online method is not being charged. Food wise tacos seem smaller and the poppers were overcooked as my order was given to me very fast normally the jalapeno poppers make an order take a bit longer only conclusion I can make is that they are preparing them ahead then dipping them in the oil again. read more

Not tasty at all. There is no drive thru, which is weird since it's fast food. The cashier was not friendly at all, seemed to rush people to order and not once smiled or thanked a customer. Didn't even get my order right. I ordered 1 crunchy beef taco and 1 soft chicken taco to-go. Walked out with 2 soft tacos. Took a few bites of beef taco, decided the Heinz packaged salsa wasn't going to help any more with taste or flavor and threw order away. Wasted $8.00. read more

I am confident in saying I have probably been to every Tasty Tacos restaurant in the Des Moines area. This location is no exception to the great local taco shop taste. The food here is better than any chain fast food taco place. This location isn't extremely busy, but it is far from being empty of customers. The staff usually keep to themselves so it is hard to say if they are friendly, but I have never had any issues with them. If I ever want good Tacos I come here instead of a fast food taco place. read more

Tasty tacos is a must!!! I have moved away but still stop in every chance I get. Just the thought of tasty tacos makes me ready to drive 2 hours just for a few tacos. I have never gotten anything but the flour tacos as I think there is nothing that could compare to the pure beauty that is a deep fried flour tortilla with meat lettuce and cheese. The salsa on top just takes this place to a new level, a very simple yet fun local spot, a place I think could be nationwide if it wanted to. I love this place if in Des Moines on yelp looking for a simple, quick and inexpensive place to eat go here. Two flour tacos (& and flour nacho if you are feeling famished) will create a lasting impact. read more

Being a former Des Moinite, Tasty Tacos is one of the culinary delights that I miss. Haven't found any place that presents a taco quite like the Original version of the deep fried flour tortilla version. Finding myself in Ankeny recently, I had some time to kill, and ducked in to relive and old favorite. Alas, it did not disappoint. the thick flour torilla deep fried and stuffed with the taco fixings hit the spot. Even large eaters like me can usually be satisfied by the single helping. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so check of the photo, and try one for yourself....enough said. I did find the Ankeny store to be a little lacking in the ambiance, that the capitol square location offers. This one is more of a sterile cookie cutter establishment, but if the food is good, just sit outside! read more

Tasty Tacos have some tasty tacos in my opinion. The fluffy flour tortillas make TT's one of the best tacos in the Des Moines area. Go with the original or steak tacos and you won't go wrong. The pork tacos are ok, lack a little in flavor. This one has quick service and is clean. The flour nachos chips with queso blanco is a must get here, if only they gave you more queso.
