The Dari USED to be a reliable restaurant. Excellent and varied menu. Food cooked to order, great…read moreservice, fast. It pains me to say tonight was not that way. It took an unusually long time to get greeted after we walked in. After showing us to a table, the hostess just dropped the menus and silverware on the table and walked away. When our server took our order after taking orders from another couple (she apologized to them for the long wait.). Then came for our order, again apologizing for the wait. Then came an exceptionally long wait for our food. I had catfish, excellent, by the way, Wife had chicken fried steak. It was almost black. Even with steak knives, it could not be cut. The gravy was good. But not soft enough to penetrate the breading. It was a bummer of a date night. Yes, we should have sent it back, but I was too busy eating my fish to see the problem.

I had a very good breakfast burrito with a side of loaded latkes. The Latkes were a nice surplice but tasked more like deep fired postal skins than traditional latkes but they were still tasty. Everything was very clean and bright and another feature which is typical of many local trendy spots I lot so of local art for sale. but here is the twist, its free to dispaly art and the artist gets 100% of the sale, no sharing a cut with the restaurant! Way to support local artists!

Recognition from the Democrat Gazette 2024, for best in the "River Valley," is proudly on display at the front counter. I cannot argue with that. But what I will say is their "Cuban Sandwich" needs help. Before I wander down the rabbit hole with a descriptive analysis of the sandwich, let me get the salad out of the way. My wife ordered the small Cobb Salad. Decent, fresh, no complaints. I have eaten a few Cuban sandwiches. One of my favorites. A bait that will lure me into any deli. There are minimum requirements. A Cuban must have mustard! A liberal dousing of YELLOW mustard. An essential condiment. Without it, it is nothing more than a bland pork sandwich. No bright yellow stain to be found between the ciabatta. It did have a little deli mustard. Not a suitable substitute. At the counter, the very nice young lady gave me a couple of packets of plain yellow mustard. Needs more, but this is a start. Between the bread, lots of meat; ham, pulled roast pork, and pickles. The roast pork was a little dry. First bite; something does not taste quite right. An unmistakable old grease flavor on the ciabatta. My best guess as to the cause; the panini press needs a good cleaning. It is a nice, attractive deli, with great service. Order something other than a Cuban Sandwich and something that is not pressed.

Came two per order. Each one had a fair sized mushroom, some roasted red peppers and lettuce. The veggies were hot and were green beans, carrots and squash. The sandwich was so large that half came home in a box. The fries were really nicely done and were piping hot and crunchy on the ends. You know how unusual that is with sweet potato fries... as soon as they start to cool off they get soggy. Prices were a little high, but the server Jenny was excellent. Definitely worth a stop if you are in town. It is a sports bar and there were plenty of locals in there for lunch also.

I asked for guidance from my waitress and she was very helpful! The special was the chicken fried steak and two sides and it looked good, but Big! Not wanting to eat that much she suggested the prime rib grilled cheese sandwich. Wow I had a salad, sandwich and sweet potato fries. I ate every bite and it was delicious! I would eat it again for sure. Being a sports bar there were plenty of sports to watch. The one thing that did catch my eye was a US flag with 48 Stars. Very cool! If you are looking for a quick fix, the shop does have a drive-up window. The shop does drip, espresso and french press coffee. In my experience of other shops in the area, the french press is unique - it's hard to find any other shop that does it. Upon visiting, I found that the store retails specialty coffee, flavored coffee and open-leaf tea. The presence of the tea adds an additional item that helps it stand out in a town where most of the other coffee shops feel like they are a copycat of big chains. I have also noticed that the owner does a good job of getting to know and remember the people who are frequent visitors. It's nice to be greeted with a smile and attentive service. As you are evaluating a place to enjoy good coffee, I highly suggest Moka Joe's as a locally-owned independent coffee shop that is working hard to provide a great location in Fort Smith.
