I've been hearing about the hype around this place for almost a year now…read more I started working in Booneville a little over eight months ago and Black Dog Meat Co. always gets brought up anytime the conversation drifts towards dining out and/or specifically remarkable places to eat locally or at least nearby. Due to being closed on the weekends (which I totally get, family is important) I hadn't had a chance to dine at Black Dog until recently when Booneville hosted a Totality Eclipse event. It was a pleasant surprise when I noticed they were open outside of normal business hours and I told my wife we weren't leaving until I got to order from the "legendary" town sandwich shop. We walked in to a rustic chic dining area adorned with family pictures, portraits of the dogs that served as the diner's namesake, and quirky bits of The Office memorabilia. Right away the decor, the lighting, and the overall upbeat mood of the little eatery evoked a strong sense of down home, authentic Americana. I couldn't wait to order. It didn't take long to decide which TWO entrées I wanted to devour, the menu is condensed and offers the exact amount of variety for such a place, but it DID take a few minutes to decide between the Chopper's Reuben and the Triple Pepper Burger. Both descriptions made my mouth salivate as I read through them, but I think in the end the idea of trying the famous smash burgers they're known for won me over as I opted for the latter. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Reuben probably more than any other classic sandwich and I'll definitely go back the minute I get the chance just to experience that, but I couldn't resist the mouthwatering description of a smash patty adorned with Jalepenos, chipotle mayo, the renowned Black Dog signature sauce, along with so much more. Ordered with a side of fries and a soda from the cooler, I waited impatiently. Partly due to being hungry after walking the blocks all day and partly due to finally getting a chance to form my own opinion about the place, I was chomping at the bit to get my burger basket. It didn't take long at all (even with a fairly packed dining area) and when the young lady who took my order brought my food over she barely had a chance to place it on the table before I was digging in and chowing down. Needless to say, it exceeded my every expectation. The bun was warm and fresh and tasted like it came straight from the oven. The perfectly balanced crispy and tender meat fritter was award worthy to say the least. The toppings: simply phenomenal. Quite a lengthy description on the menu led me to wonder if it was gonna be too much as the various flavors might end up struggling to present themselves enough to offer a distinguish taste, but boy was I wrong on that account. In addition to the others I mentioned earlier, the Three Pepper offered French fried crunchy onions, pepper jack cheese, and sriracha sauce. Of course, the distinct Black Dog sauce was the figurative cherry on top. Both equally discernible and delicious, I had to ask for a ramekin full to dip my fries in. Not that they needed it, by any means. The fries, my goodness the fries. if I had ordered from an Oscars party these would've taken home "best supporting actor to the main entrée". A perfectly golden yellow and crispy exterior with a warm, almost velvety interior, these little potato sticks almost stole the whole show. Seasoned with a savory blend of various spices and simply amazing in their own right, I couldn't get enough of the deep fried frites. In addition to the full flavored sauce that defines Black Dog, the fries should be considered a signature staple of the diner considering I've never tasted any as good as theirs before. A very welcoming atmosphere with a wholesome, family vibe, exceptional customer service, memorable food that deserves all the praise it receives, and an exceptional homemade signature sauce that needs to be bottled immediately make Black Dog Meat Co. a must stop for anyone in Logan County or even remotely close to the area. You won't regret it.

My wife ordered the small Cobb Salad. Decent, fresh, no complaints. I have eaten a few Cuban sandwiches. One of my favorites. A bait that will lure me into any deli. There are minimum requirements. A Cuban must have mustard! A liberal dousing of YELLOW mustard. An essential condiment. Without it, it is nothing more than a bland pork sandwich. No bright yellow stain to be found between the ciabatta. It did have a little deli mustard. Not a suitable substitute. At the counter, the very nice young lady gave me a couple of packets of plain yellow mustard. Needs more, but this is a start. Between the bread, lots of meat; ham, pulled roast pork, and pickles. The roast pork was a little dry. First bite; something does not taste quite right. An unmistakable old grease flavor on the ciabatta. My best guess as to the cause; the panini press needs a good cleaning. It is a nice, attractive deli, with great service. Order something other than a Cuban Sandwich and something that is not pressed.

She also had to bus the tables. This in no way affected service. She is just that good. Also for lunch on Wednesday you get a free dessert. If it had not been for iExit, we never would have known this awesome hidden gem was here. Every interstate traveler ought to have the iExit app. At first, it felt like the mothership had cloaked itself because we drove around for a bit and couldn't find it. Then we discovered the landing zone: Bryce's food truck is parked right in front of the Tacklebox Tackle and Bait building, just about 3/10 of a mile off Exit 11 on I-540 / US-71. Honestly, Zero Street is the perfect location name for the Mothership, which has just returned home. Bryce, the owner, told us he came out of the IT profession and has been building this business for the last couple of years, and it shows. The whole alien theme is fantastic, right down to the little black pager that lets the aliens signal when your food is ready. I ordered the Apollo Burger, swapping the American cheese for provolone, and it was outstanding. The UFO-shaped bun is such a creative touch and fits the whole mothership theme perfectly. Well - I bet those are good - and I did (for the record) request a notification from him when his mom makes the next batch so that I can make a purchase! That being said / I'm still wanting a good tamale. I decided to go to George's because they offer fantastic desserts made just like the ones my mom, grandmothers and aunts all make. I thought they may also have tamales! Well what do you know - they do offer both! I ordered and promptly disposed of the tamale spread (as it's called on the menu)! It was delicious - several meaty tamales covered in a homemade chili sauce with cheese and a generous helping of chopped onion (optional for others - but not for me). The tamale spread was awesome! I had ordered a piece of chocolate cake for my appetizer (not unusual for me). I finished that piece of cake after I finished the tamale spread. I washed all this down with some splashes of Louisiana Hot Sauce on the tamale spread and a large glass of ice water that was generously refilled by the fantastic server, Heather!
