I live in a bigger city than Milwaukee (Chicago) but wish we had a spot like this here, where I personally am not aware of Burmese spots. I specifically love that they have a menu of so many different roti options, and I really wish I could try them all. We got a dosa, char kway teoh, and a roti planta as well as a bandung to drink. The roti planta was the only five star thing we tried lol but I'm keeping the five stars because I thought the prices were good and I also hold space for I prefer other styles of making these foods. Specifically, I wish the bandung was as good as the one I had in Singapore (I am forever chasing that high), and I prefer a South Indian dosa at places in Chicago. Came here for dinner with a large group not too long ago. A homey, cozy atmosphere. Service was quick even with our large group. I ordered the roti filled with chicken, onion, and egg, and it was tasty. I could see the roti being cooked in the kitchen area which was visible and that was fun to watch. The dish was delicious and it was plentiful so I could save enough for lunch the next day. A couple of folks felt their food was on the spicy side, so if you need a milder version, make sure to tell them. For the stuffed roti I ate, I felt the spice level was just perfect - not too much but not nonexistent, either. Where has this dosa been all my life? Having read a recent article about this restaurant, BF and I wanted to come try it. I was concerned about the availability of vegetarian options, but there are a few options and they are accommodating. The space is fairly basic, but it has what you need. There are several tables available. They have a TV playing Bollywood-style videos. Parking is on the street. I saw a counter where it said you should order and pick up, but we had our order taken at the table and our food was brought to us. Everyone who worked there was very nice, but they did not speak a great deal of English. I ordered a cheese and butter non-traditional dosa, but I received a veggie dosa. I was not mad about it at all. The dosa was amazing - crispy and light and perfect and stuffed with veggies that were somehow still crunchy, but infused with great flavor, as if they'd been cooked for hours. The dosas come with a dal type of sauce, something quite hot and another cold sauce we couldn't identify, but it was good. BF had a masala dosa and it was divine as well. Great potato filling, amazing flavor and the same sauces and superb dosa texture and flavor. Not understanding the generous size of the dosa, I'd ordered a veggie fried rice as well. I just barely tried it since I was stuffed, but it was excellent as well. Fresh flavor, which was complex, despite the veggies remaining al dente, with a short grain rice that I haven't identified. The dish does have eggs, which the cook/server/owner cleared with me when I ordered. I look forward to having this food again and again, but I'll be hard pressed to order anything other than the dosa. It's all about the food. read more

The restaurant at 15th and Oklahoma has the most charming and welcoming people. We love Malaysian food and seek it. We came here to try this place and are pleased. It smells great and is clean. Watching the roti process is mesmerizing. We likely over ordered out of anticipation from how long we've had to wait to find another Malaysian restaurant. The roti stuffed with onion and spices and chicken with the curry sauce was delicious! Amazing flavors, not too spicy, so tasty! The spicy squid dish was warm and the flavor went all across the palate. Asked my date and heard "The noodles are so good!!" Please give this place a try. read more

Reminded me of my trip to East Asia. The veggie dosa and roti boom were delicious savory, sweet served with two delightful sauces. Prepared and served by kind and attentive staff. Reasonable prices. A very busy take out business but still enough inside eating space for small groups and families. read more

I came back. They took my order incorrectly (and there was just me and one more person in line). I had ordered chicken fried rice got beef and chicken fried rice instead. I love sunny side up eggs but these eggs were quite raw, I had to throw them out. Fried rice did NOT taste anything like what we had the first. And to make it worse it was very spicy. A remarkable Rohingya refugee couple run this superb Malaysian food truck. Milwaukee has the largest Rohingya population in the U.S. The husband part of this team lived in Malaysia after escaping Burma as a child and worked in restaurants. Malaysia is a multiethnic nation, and Malaysian cuisine has many sources, influences, and much cultural diffusion. If you've eaten at Asian Papayoyo, Sarah P. noted that was Sarawak style Malaysian. Mr. Wok out in Pewaukee is the more common Chinese Malay style. Ali rather proudly noted that unlike these other two restaurants which serve(d) frozen roti, their food truck only serves fresh hand made roti. When I was in Kuala Lumpur I mostly ate Tamil-Malaysian cooking, which is a culinary first cousin of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankan Tamil food. Tamil Malay style seems to be the predominant influence for the rather wide selection of food out of this truck, but it's also all Halal (which is not the case for most Tamil cuisine). Note that Malaysian food is spicy. If you don't like spicy food, you're not going to like this. Also note, many Southeast Asians like fried eggs sunny-side up cooked quickly at a high heat so the edges are crispy and the yolk is really runny. That's they way I like them too, so if you don't like that, don't order a dish with egg in or on it. I'm not a big fan of YELP grade inflation (I'm not a fan of college and high school grade inflation either), I reserve five star reviews for Best-in-Class. This is the best food truck, the best Halal food, and the best Malaysian food in the Midwest. But thanks to their popularity in the Muslim, South Asian, and Southeast Asian communities around here (South 13th Street and West Ohio Avenue in winter, Wilson Park in summer) they sometimes run out of food before they close at 8 p.m. (they start at 11 a.m. 6 days a week, not out on Mondays). They are polyglots with excellent English, but they have some trouble with American colloquial expressions and rapid Spanish, so try to slow it down and enunciate clearly without slang. You don't need to shout, they aren't hard of hearing. Their prices are good considering they are not skimping on expensive ingredients so if you can afford it, over-tip. The one thing I don't like is their overuse of Styrofoam and plastic, a problem all the delivery and take out food business exacerbated by Covid19 precautions. I'm going to try bringing my own clean containers, maybe even tiffin. read more

we were at Taste Amir's roti at Milwaukee and they had absolutely amazing food. The rotis were so good. We had ordered biriyani and some veg fried rice and it was super delicious. Unlike usual Indian/asian restaurants, they were so on point on spice level, you can customize their menus as they make it fresh. Very delicious and satisfying food. Highly recommend to try their food when in/around Milwaukee. read more

A hardworking food truck family business. The food was a nice experiment to try. I had trouble communicating what I wanted with the server. It turned out I ordered a pastry/ bread like item. The wait was long- about 30 minutes. I should say that the more experienced customers ordered by phone, called ahead and apparently came to pick up after confirming readiness of order. It's like they take as long as they possibly can to make even the most simple item on their menu, nothing they have is worth the wait. Prepare to wait 30 minutes for an iced tea. read more
