Dotty's Teahouse - Plain and fruit (sultana) scones

Located in South Croydon ( the outskirts of London) this beautiful tea house will leave you day…read moredreaming! After several Google services, I came across Dotty's website, it is well put together and really grabbed my attention Seeing Dotty's in real life was like a dream. The establishment is beautifully decorated and you can tell the owner really invested in the place and the people who work there. There is a pink bicycle parked outside, the establishment is pink, the decor is very elegant--perfect for a photo op I opt to do the afternoon tea with Prosecco added on as well as some scones to go. It was a very fair price per person. Under £80 for the entire experience for 2 people. They also sell other assorted desserts, shakes and cakes All the employees were attentive, they explained in detail what our package came with and they made sure we were happy from start to finish. EVERYTHING was delicious! From the English tea down to the Pimms jello HIGHLY RECOMMEND 10/10!!

I stumbled on the listing while doing a search for tea places before I left Washington, DC to travel to London. Unfortunately I didn't make the reservation myself (relied on family in London to make it) so we didn't get booked for the afternoon tea service as I'd hoped and just had a reserved table instead. Still, I indulged in some scones with cream and strawberry jam, paired with a strong cup of decaf English breakfast tea. The staff is very friendly and took the time to explain the drink and pastry options to us. I hope I get a chance to visit again for the full tea service before the end of my trip!

This is one of those places that you wish would tee itself up a bit…read more It has a lot going for it; a wonderful setting on Carshalton Ponds (one of those hidden bits of heaven in London suburbia); it's in the same building as the Honeywood Museum and next to the Eco centre, and on one arm if the the Wandle cycle trail, so gets oodles of passing trade. There's a small entrance are with chiller cabinets and counter, and inside an area with tables and chairs, though the outside area is nicer. So, the pluses: you can have a table by the pond and feed the ducks; they do great cakes and very good ice creams; the staff are pleasant; and the prices are decent. They also rope an area off for children's buggies. On the downside, I found the coffee to be bland, and service can be very, very slow. Oddly, the whole place just feels like a bit more imagination would go a long way. One downer they can't help is the proximity of the A232, but actually it's less intrusive than you might think. A little bit more effort would up the rating as the location is just fab.

The outside seating is excellent but inside the tea rooms are very bare. The tables are all wobbly and 2 huge drink cabinets take up a lot of room. The menu has very little to eat for those who don't want veggie or vegan food so we had a coffee and left.

A GREAT AREA COMBINING A PARK, LAKE, LIBRARY, NURSERY AND TEA ROOM…read more I've always liked this relaxing spot and would use it more but the lack of any public toilets is a real flaw in the Council's thinking. Luckily, in the last few weeks, a tea room has opened as part of the existing kitchen nursery garden and they do have a toilet (complete with an excellent baby changing facility) - albeit for customers only. On a sunny day, it's great to wander around the lake (or big pond?) and enjoy the greenery or wander around the nursery - which was the original kitchen nursery for the house and then sit in the excellent tea room. The tea room has a great ambience, sited right next to the nursery garden so you can either sit outside next to the plants or in the 'conservatory' area - there are a lot of tables, all spaciously laid out. The tables and chairs are good quality garden furniture and everything is clean and bright. Service is friendly and prompt, tables are cleared quickly. The menu is limited but quite adequate. The food is not amazing but is OK. For example, the cream tea sounds great and is served on a silver tray with great crockery. The scones, though were small (I've had single scones that were bigger than two of these mass produced scones combined) and cold. Oddly, there was more jam and cream than I could reasonably put on the two scones - which made me feel wasteful. The prices were average for Epsom. I would certainly recommend this place to my friends.

All she wanted for her birthday was a nice afternoon tea. We left London and were basically driving sort of toward the coast just stopping wherever we found a tea shop. Unfortunately, every tea shop we hit was closed because of some bank holiday we were unaware of. Except one! We got to Glynde, parked outside this tea shop, went in, and found a large sign that said "cash only". OMG this wasn't our day. We had to go to the next town over to use the ATM which sucked, but we weren't in any hurry and we really liked the look and feel here. We came back, got seated, opened the menu, and right at the top it said afternoon tea available with reservation only. We were devastated. I saw the look in my wife's eye and there was no way I was not getting her this afternoon tea! I approached the woman working and explained our situation and before I could even fight for the experience she told me not to worry, she would get us taken care of. BLESS HER! We had a wonderful visit and would recommend the experience to everyone in the area. Fast forward to this year. I knew how much my wife loved that visit and decided to reach out and ask if they had any ideas of what I could get her for her birthday this year. Joanne reached back out with an amazing gift and shipped it to us and it amazingly arrived on her birthday! She also included a nice birthday card for her! Amazing people that went out of their way twice to make us happy. They will forever be apart of our story and hopefully we have the chance to return soon! Thank you!!!

Very pleasant and inviting. They had a lunch offer of a jacket potato and quiche and salad, and a good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Large portion sizes too. And they had decaf tea. It is often very busy as all the locals come here for lunch. They do some extremely huge yummy sarnies and rolls which always come with an amazing complex salad and crisps, jacket potatoes, some delicious open sandwiches with home made fillings, chicken caesar, egg mayonnaise, prawn and many others and the very attractive cakes which are mainly hand made and decorated. There is a wide range of drinks to choose from and very good teas and coffees. It has a very trendy style and you get served in pretty mismatched cups and saucers, dainty plates and so on. It feels a bit like you are in Brighton. Staff are sweet and courteous. Only thing is food takes a while as it is all freshly prepared. It's very cosy and nice , I love it. Nothing else like it round here- unique.
