enjoy the sushi from the place. a bit on the pricey side. nice that there is higher end store near where i live

awesome! the outside of this place looks like a shady supermarket in a bad area. once you go in tho. it's clean and nice. I had dinner here I had: Tamago (egg) nigiri salmon roe nigiri sashimi on a bed of rice salmon sashimi yellow tail sashimi sea urchin sashimi honestly these were all very fresh. the sashimi you get in a package and u get them to cut it up for u. sea urchin was very fresh it's my favourite sushi item and it was worth the trip the service was great. the store clerks were able to answer all the questions. all sushi was labeled where it was from. overall it was a little pricey. I realized on this trip there are way better tasting fish. I recommend the yellow tail and uni read more

Went in for lunch today. Everything was super fresh and delicious, as always! Unfortunately, on the way out I dropped my wallet in their parking lot and only realized this while driving (atleast 20 minutes away)! I immediately called and explained the situation to an employee (I believe her name was Chrissy). She ultimately found my wallet in their busy parking lot and returned it to me with everything intact! A big 'thanks' goes out to Chrissy for going outside on a chilly day to search for a customer's wallet. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! read more

Very fresh fish, and reasonably priced! You can call ahead and place an order for pick up, or walk in and build your own sushi tray. Made the mistake of showing up at the end of the day and only had a very small selection or already made foods. Got a chirashi and got a slab of Hamachi and uni from the fridge which they were able to cut up for me!. Friendly service, would definitely come here more often. read more

Freshest sashimi you can get in Toronto, since the diminish of Sakana-ya at J-Town few years ago. Very fresh Toro, Uni, Salmon and other types of sashimi Fish you can choose for and cut it for you at no extra charge. Not the cheapest in price but you get the quality that you paid for. The only complaint i had is always the long line up there as they are busy all the time(better if you go on a weekday)! Worth checking this out if you are a sushi/sashimi lover! read more

Best price/quality ratio for a chirashi bowl. Their sashimi is fresh and easily beats any restaurants at this price. Takeout only!

Amazing sushi for decent price. Some may say it's more expensive than other sushi joints, however for the quality you're getting this really is the best price you will pay for. Will definitely come back to this place. read more

I live nearby and visit this place once a week！ I love this place! The staff speaks Japanese! Everything here makes me miss 築地市場！

Not only is this a small place to eat and catering company, but you can buy fresh fish here. Not just Salmon, but tuna (Mugaro, Chu Toro and O Toro), sea bass, grouper, hirame, hamachi, snapper, scallops, uni, and clams....ALL SUSHI GRADE. They have sushi making supplies here too. Come eat!!!!! read more

Such a hidden gem in North York. I love getting their salmon and having my own sashimi at home. The fish is always super fresh and the prices are pretty reasonable. read more

WOW. This is a place that I love. If I am ever in Toronto again, I will be here. The fish here is super fresh. You can either sit in the place and eat at the bar or you can pick and choose your choice of sushi/sashimi and the will cut everything up for you. Such high quality fish and so freshhhhhhh. We bought a whole box of Uni from Hokkaido along with Atlantic Salmon, Trout, Grouper, Ebi, fresh Scallops from Hokkaido, deliciously fresh Yellowtail aka my favorite Hamachi, and last but not least, Blue fin Toro. yes blue fin toro. Surely you could choose their prepared platters but I prefer to create a platter that satisfies all my sashimi preferences. and we also got a basic tray for those who don't eat raw, which btw were pretty good too but nothing special. read more

Taro Fish used to be my favorite place for sushi takeout. Sashimi used to be fresh and the they use standard Japanese sushi rice unlike many Chinese or Korean owned sushi takeout places. However, the quality and value has gone downhill from time to time. The past couple times I ordered from Taro Fish were so different I had wonder if it was from the same place I used to enjoy. Last Thursday I had given this place a last chance and decided probably will not come back for a while. I ordered the deluxe sushi combo for supposedly 4 people, plus salmon skin roll and an extra roll. Deluxe sushi tray was supposed to have a certain number of pieces in there, when I arrived to pick up the tray looked like it had been eaten by 1/3. It was not close to the number indicated on their takeout menu and each piece was much smaller. I was planning to pickup a sashimi tray from the fridge too but none looked fresh. But I did not concern too much as it was 15minutes to their closing time. I had made sure to have takeout in my cooling bag to maintain the cold temperature on the way home. The worst part was everyone had diarrhea after that meal! I did not request to open the tray as I trusted the place would not sell fish that's not fresh, but I really regret it once I got home as I opened the plastic cover the sushi had a strong fishy smell. Some fish like fatty tuna were torched unlike what I had ordered before. But now realize might be because their color turned dark so cooked them to cover the fact that they were bad. Japanese owned places used to be known for its quality and standard, what's happening now? read more

Wish I can give no star. I always had $50 sushi for two. I never thought it is expensive until today. Garbage. Dry sashimi, watery rice, and too much seasoning. Use to be one of my best sushi place which tasted very similar to Sushi I had in Japan. But it seems like new management with no knowledge of sushi. Waste of my time and money. Lost my favorite sushi place in the neighbourhood. read more

Fresh fish, fresh sushi, fresh everything!.. I'm always looking for the closest sushi place because I crave sushi on the daily and I found this gem. They have fully stocked fridges with tons of different fish for sashimi and they have pre-made sushi trays. You can also order a customized sushi platters or order whatever item you want and they'll make right away for you. The price of the sushi and the sashimi aren't cheap but the quality of the sushi and sashimi is better than what you would get at your typical sushi restaurant or AYCE. I ordered their Salmon Maki Roll and picked up a tray of California Rolls and they were fresh - the salmon melts in your mouth. They have different Japanese desserts, snacks, etc. I highly recommend that you come early if you're planning on going cause the place is always packed. Taro's Fish is not a restaurant but if you're looking to make your own sushi, this is definitely the go-to place because they have such a wide selection. I will definitely be back for more to satisfy my sushi cravings! read more

Only the best and freshest seafood you can buy in Toronto. I recently spent about way too many dollars on uni and bluefin toro for a dinner party but it was worth every single penny. My guests couldnt believe how fresh everything was. The toro was so well marbled, and the uni was kept on ice and flew in only a day before I got it. Overall amazing and definitely would return. However, it aint cheap, but you get what you pay for. read more

Second time getting sushi here and honestly not impressed. Perhaps the shop itself is very cool, but really, the fish isn't as great as I hoped. The uni was fishy and not fresh (the colour was like brownish), and the textures of the fish was all quite... mediocre. The wasabi tasted different, it's a gritty texture with sort of a bitter taste and then a fragrant aftertaste. Not sure if it's supposed to be like that. Anyway, a pass if I want some good sushi next time. read more

Been coming here for years (even at their previous Steeles location) - it's one of the best places to go in Toronto for high-quality sushi-grade fish. There are large cuts of various fishes that you can buy whole, or ask them to slice it up for sashimi. There's also pre-packaged fillets of salmon, mackerel, etc. for cooking. In addition, there's lots of tasty pre-made items, including grilled fillets, tempura, maki, bento boxes, and other assorted Japanese foods. Staff are all super-friendly and helpful. read more

I could shed a tear over how delicious and high quality their items are. You haven't experienced delectable sushi / sashimi, within Toronto, until you grab a bite from here! read more

Almighty hands down best sushi in town. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! *can't stop thinking about it

I stop eating expensive sushi at restaurants after found out taro fish. They have decent sushi

This is my go to place for fresh sashimi take out. Although it is still expensive for take out , but you will taste the difference in the sashimi. The sashimi is always very fresh, and sweet. I usually come here to get sashimi platters and there is a variety of different sashimi in each platter. After getting sashimi here , it is hard for me to get sashimi platters from other sushi takeout places. You can really taste the difference in the quality, so I think it is worth the price read more

First time here with my friend. The take out fish and overall food is a little pricey aside but the quality isn't too bad. It's not a place to eat in but for a quick bite is ok. read more

After getting off the Bressarion Station and exploring the neighbourhood, I chanced upon their store, Taro's Fish. I went in not knowing what to expect. I was greeted by a Japanese lady with a warm smile. I glanced around. The place wasn't too big and there was another customer happily eating away in the side by the window. I walked further into the store and I saw some of the freshest manila clams and live uni (sea urchin). They also had some nice cooked terriyaki squid and chicken on the side. I ended up having a nice meal there today. The place and the food reminded me of my travels in the far east. It was a nice authentic Japanese place. If you ever wanted to taste real Japanese food but didn't want to travel all the way to the far east, then this is the place to be. read more

This place is amazing! After reading so many good reviews, we decided to give it a try as both bf and myself were craving for good sashimi. We bought the fish and sliced them ourselves at home. They had lots of varieties. We got sea urchin, medium toro (tuna), mackerel, yellow fin tuna, couple of others which I couldn't remember the names. It's a bit pricy but I think if you want fresh and varieties, it's worth it. We spend $100 and made 2 huge platters and had some leftovers for next day. Definitely will return again when we want more sashimi!! read more

Food is fresh most of the time. I frequent visit here. The only concern I have is the packaged sashimi in the refrigerator. Along with all the menu items available, the packaged sashimi is usually fresh. Out of the many times I've visited, there was only once when the food was not so fresh. The color and texture seemed like it was stale. The taste was raw, fish tasted like it was straight out of the ocean, not cleaned and prepped properly. Service is usually very pleasant. read more

The conditional pass sticker really scared me, so even though I heard this sushi bar long time ago, I just visited it recently. The food quality is good. I did purchase a whole piece of fish and transform it to a sashimi dish. You can choose to dine in or take out. The seats are limited. Generally, a good place for Japanese food and grocery. read more

Taro's Fish - Tuna salmon crab meat roll - Seafood Markets Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Tried the Shrimp sashimi was super fresh and yummy! Their sushi are definitely beyond expectations!!

If you want great sushi , then Taro's Fish is the place to be. I had the opportunity to check this restaurant out last night as I had heard many wonderful stories from this establishment. Located in the heart of North York, this restaurant does more than just serve its customers. Not only do they do take outs and in-house dinings, they also do catering for many personal and business functions. As it was just myself, my wife and the little one for the evening and it was one place that we really wanted to try, we decided to give it a go and ordered their Sushi for Two menu ($50.00) and a separate order of scallops sashimi ($9.99) The 30-piece Sushi for Two order included 9 different types of nigiri and 2 different types of rolls. The types of nigiri included were salmon, maguro (tuna), ebi (or shrimp), medium toro, mackerel, white fish, sardine, hamachi and uni. Every single piece of fish presented that night was amazing. They were all extremely fresh, rather large compared to the rice and very pure tasting. Personally I thought the quality of the fish that the chefs chose to make up the Sushi for Two order was pretty good. Where other restaurants in the past would load up an order like this with butterfish, salmon and tuna, the variety provided I thought was fair to the price one paid for this particular order. My biggest enjoyment of the night however was not from the nigiri. It was actually from the scallops sashimi. The scallops sashimi was simply put amazing!!!! The scallops sashimi were just as fresh as the fish. It was smooth, it was slippery and it literally melted in your mouth. For $9.99, one got to consume 6 large pieces of fresh scallops sashimi and believe me when I say it was definitely well worth the price. Had I known it tasted that good, I might have placed a second order for it. The argument could be made that there really isn't anything to scallops sashimi since all one needed to do was crack them open and serve them however one bite into these scallops and you could tell that there was something different about these particular scallops. It's possible that their chefs might be taking their time and thus are choosing the best scallops for their inventory and not those that are at the bottom of the barrel which of course would make a big difference. Compared to other restaurants, these scallops were bouncier or more jelly-liked, much larger compared other scallops that I have eaten at other places and "sweet" tasting as Chinese people would like to say. The two types of rolls that were served included the California Roll and the Spicy Salmon Roll. Both rolls were made to perfection. The rice was perfect as it was not the really bad mushy type that some other places tend to serve. The rolls were packed with all their necessary ingredients and presented in a nice manner. Although it was not really a major complaint on my end, the spicy salmon was actually not that spicy at all. I have tasted some really spicy salmon before but these spicy salmon rolls actually didn't have that much kick to it. Nonetheless, the rolls were still very good. I really enjoyed the sushi and the sashimi from this place. I had heard great things from them and the fact that they are opened for only five days a week and are closed on Sundays and Mondays and still have the entire restaurant packed is a strong testament as to how well they are doing. I would highly recommend one make reservations if you could before going as it's not that big of a place. I don't think you will be disappointed as we certainly were not. For any sushi lovers, this is one place you must give a try. read more

Taro's Fish - Seafood Markets Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Disappointing. We heard great things about this place, but it didn't live up. The fish was expensive and tasteless. We waited in line to order. Then had to wait in a separate long line to pay. It took a long time, because the cashier didn't know the prices of anything and had to look up each item from each order in the takeout menu. Then for some strange reason we were not given a bag or ice for our party tray. Would NOT go back. read more

This little fish market serves the best sushi in Toronto. If you are here, you have to try their Sushi Deluxe platter ($25). The fish is fresh, and the portions are nice. The sushi would never fall apart when I pick it up. The temperature of both the fish and rice are always perfect, and in your mouth, the 2 ingredients melt into one and you experience a whole new taste a texture. The ratio of fish to rice is always perfect too. I just love it. (The sashimi and the cooked foods are not as amazing as the sushi. just stick with the sushi) read more

I"m a huge fan! They are pricy and fresh. The conditional pass is a bit scary but i will most likely go back.

Used to buy sashimi grade fish from Taro's since 2002 and they know I am not a stranger. Do not order sushi though! they put the cheapest cuts there that should have been thrown away, yak. Moreover, a few times made large orders of tuna magura for parties and both times fish was not sushi grade, had fishy smell and mushy texture- really disappointing read more

Toro fish was one of our go to places for some fresh and buy cut fresh market. We love to pick up a few items from the fridge then they will cut it nicely and plated them beautifully on plates for us to eat in the store or nicely in a tray for take out. We always like to order and eat in the store because the plating is great while able to eat them fresh; sadly they changed and there is no longer seating in the store : ( we went back two times and we eat in our car which obviously is not the best way to enjoy good food. However we must say their fish is still very fresh and very reasonable price for what we get. We normally order the exact same thing whenever we go and we always pay around $65 - $75 for two person. We tend to order: salmon, big sweet shrimps, negro hamachi or negro toro, 2 order of uni, 1 order of the spicy deluxe roll (4 huge pieces) and a side bowl of sushi rice to pair with uni since a bowl is only $2.5 while each uni sushi would be $6/each and not even as much uni : )))). We would also highly recommend buying their frozen marinated fish from their vacuumed freezer because they are yummy too if you don't know how to marinate yourself. Its only shameful that there's no more in shop dining; however I would still go there for a quick quality Japanese sashimi fix : ) read more
