Target is always a go-to. This Target in particular, however, is awesome. A few weeks ago I was passing through Merrillville when a storm rolled in an a tornado warning hit. My husband and I pulled off the highway and went to the target, both for shelter and because we needed to pick up some items. The staff here ushered us into the back hallway and it was clear that the safety of both the staff and customers that came in was their priority. While we were waiting out the tornado warning in the back hallway the staff kept the mood light and passed out water and some chocolate. Their attitude diffused what may have been a scary situation. I don't live locally so I won't be making regular trips to the store, but I want to sincerely thank the staff and management. You guys are doing a great job! read more

I don't go to Target in Merrillville often and now I remember why: the store was disorganized, empty carts everywhere on the shopping floor, employees putting up stock and blocking the aisles; the "Dollar Spot" was picked over and terribly random; very few manned registers; the cashiers they had were super slow and the washroom was absolutely disgusting. Maybe I got spoiled by the condition at the Lafayette and St. John stores, but what we experienced today was NOT impressive at all. read more

Horrible gas smell pouring out of the grocery and frozen aisles, somehow the staff took ages to realize this is a serious risk! I speed walked through to grab a road trip beverage and finished checking out before there was an announcement to evacuate. This Target is always a mess and rather dirty. They are often out of products and they never have enough cashiers working at the registers so the lines are insane and you will always have to wait at least 10-15 minutes to check out. I don't care what time of year it is, it's always like this. read more

Target is one of my favorite places -- but this location is not. Whoever is managing, is doing a poor job. The shelves are always bare, everything is disorganized and I feel depressed shopping this location; maybe it's the lighting as it's not as bright as other Targets. The item options are limited. I only come here when I can't make it to the Valpo store. There are two sections for self checkout but every time only one is open even though lines are long -- why have two? This review is for ALL TARGET STORES, not just the one in Merrillville. Two months ago I opened a credit card with target because they were offering a promotion of $50.00 that would come with your card. I received the C.C. weeks later but without any coupon. I called their customer service department (good luck getting through to them) and was told they would send out another coupon, that was on February 19, today is March 20th and still waiting..... I drove to the store to speak to a manager and as you probably guessed, "I'm sorry there's nothing we can do here" is what I was told! I canceled EVERYTHING WITH THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE COMPANY AND WILL NEVER ENTER ANY TARGET EVER AGAIN!!! When a company that big does not value their customers and can't figure out a way to follow through on a promise, in this case a $50.00 coupon, I'm DONE FOREVER WITH THEM! read more

I am leaving this honest and fully transparent review of this specific Target location because I am EXTREMELY disappointed and upset at my recent visits here.   I will start by saying I have been a very consistent customer at this location for the past year and a half, and my overall experience with the store has been good. However, because of my frequent visits while working as a Shipt shopper, I have personally encountered extreme rudeness and uncomfortable situations at this location, and it has become a huge problem for me and other Shipt shoppers at this location, as well as with regular customers.   The problem is the manager, Lisa. She is a tall African American older woman with a gray fade/mini afro-like hairstyle, and she is EXTREMELY rude, visibly angry all the time, and always giving orders to staff or customers with a sense of attitude.   I have watched her numerous times interact with customers who needed help, and she always responds with a lackluster energy, and her facial expressions create a real problem with the overall customer service experience. No one wants to be greeted with a mean face and bad attitude! Her energy is very negative, and it creates a very uncomfortable experience when checking out at the store when she's working the checkout lanes or guest services department. I literally avoid her at all costs because every time I come, I always get a bad vibe from her, and it is not how I would like to start my day when I come to this Target store.   I believe she is not the ideal manager that Target desires to operate their Lake County store. Someone needs to QUICKLY address this problem. I am writing this review because I want things to be documented because I will NOT continue to come here and tolerate even the slightest amount of disrespect, rudeness, or unpleasant behavior, especially coming from a person in management.   I'm still going to come here, but every time I have a bad experience, I'm going to leave a full and honest review until this issue is addressed and resolved.   Lisa is not the ideal person for management from my perspective as a customer/shopper.   Her energy is standoffish, her facial expressions appear angry, and she comes off as mean and lazy!   Every time a staff member or customer needs her help, she rolls her eyes, breathes heavily, and her body language visibly shows she's not in the mood to do what is asked of her.   Lastly, I will say that the other management at the store is great. The workers in every department are very helpful, and this store is one of my favorites in the region. The register situation at this Target is unacceptable. They have 8 self check outs and only 4 of them are available if they are properly working. i got there on a Saturday afternoon only 1 register was open and the line was all the way down the aisle to the kids section. And the self check out line was all the way into the makeup aisle. read more

This is a great target store. It is larger than others in the area, which makes it tempting to drive further. They have a nice Starbucks inside, and customer service is always good. read more

Overall this is an excellent store but it is inexcusable to have pot holes in the size of small cars and nothing being done by Target, the developer, or the town of Hobart! It is completely inexcusable that this parking lot is neglected! read more

What's there not to love about target. Great prices. Great customer service. Red card services. Extra discounts. It is in such a great location. It has all the things I need. Overall I would recommend. I like the highland location better. But this one is also great. That was from long ago. Updated today: 09/08/19 This whole store looks like a clearance outlet. It smells and not good. There was an avocado out of place and has been for a looong while. I mean come on people that is one of the things you get paid for. It sucks here. I won't be back til they update this store. I think I will stay in my area. Thanks target for sending me to this one to review but I'll pass. I placed a pickup order for a toy that says it was in stock and my boyfriend went to go pick it up and the lady told him I canceled the order when I didn't. So I look at my email and the lady put that the item was out of stock. So my boyfriend went in the toy isle and found the exact toy I placed for pick up. The staff that is working the pickups need to make sure that they look harder next time instead of canceling my order and then lying and saying that I canceled it. The whole point of a pick up order is so that you don't have to go shop around and find the item yourself. read more

Although the store is clean it is not properly managed.. for being a local shopping point for many passing visitors, locals, the store does not have staff where they are supposed to be, plenty of workers.. yet every time I come they only have one register open out of 12... I am upset because target is the primary option for our shopping, workers see the long lines and although I understand not everyone can work a register, they should have more than one person that can check people out, workers are rude too.. maybe workers have gotten too comfortable with the way the store works to keep itself in a good state the after the last couple visits I see target turning into a jewel osco Walmart type of store.. will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I took my grandson there to buy a game for my Wii. He wanted the Minecraft game which only came in a WiiU. When I asked the sales lady if it was compatible I was told yes I also asked her if there was a problem with it not being compatible could I return it and again was told yes. However when we got home and excitedly put it in the machine it did not work. We returned it to Target the next morning where my grandson who is 5 showed them a letter he wrote to them explaining it didnt work. We wanted to exchange it for a game that would work(wii) but they would not take the game back because it was open. They would only exchange it for the same exact game. Employees should be trained better on electronics and know the stores' exchange/return policy. On Target to work with our customers regardless of their age. Very disappointed in them. read more

Always clean and bright, I can get in and out quickly. Milk is close to the front, so I don't have to walk a football field or more to just get a gallon of milk. I find unique items for home, fashion, and electronics. Workers are nice and helpful. I never have to wait more than five minutes to check out. I hope corporate considers making this location a super target with full grocery section. read more

This store has gone downhill in recent years. The checking out process and customer service is terrible. I visited the store recently as I have family that lives in the area. I had a gift card and purchased some groceries with it. I usually shop Meijer or Walmart, but not this time. The grocery prices were sky high and there was not much of a selection. I asked one of the sales associates where something was located and she didn't even find it. Fortunately, I spotted what I needed. Once again, not much to choose from. Then when I was being checked out, the cashier didn't even ring up all of my items. Fortunately, the customer behind me was observant and saw my items under the counter. She caught up to me as I was about to walk out of the store. I went back and bought those items. The cashier didn't even apologize. I never shop Target and I'm glad I don't. Even Walmart beats Target on the overall shopping experience. read more

I live in Crown Point about 20 minutes from the Target in Merrillville. It NEVER fails, EVERY TIME I go to the Target by Southlake Mall, they inevitably leave part of my purchase out of the bags even though they certainly charge me for each and every item. So now, again, tomorrow I will pack up my five year old and head there wasting another hour in my live that I'll never get back. 20 minutes there, 20 minutes back - given there is no traffic, and then however long I have to wait in line at customer service to get a stinking jar of grape jelly that was left out so my five year old can have a pbj for lunch. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and let me add that their phones are out of service apparently - only get a busy signal at both the store and the pharmacy - so I couldn't even call them to vent. Did call Valpo store and the woman there was lovely and confirmed that Merrillville was having phone issues and that no one, even in an emergency, could reach any employee there due to the phone situation.
