The self checkout was quite frustrating to use, as it wasn't intuitive and at least three of the scanning stations were inoperative, causing there to be a line of people waiting. It's a good thing that there was an employee assigned to assist in the self checkout area. The employees in the store are generally helpful and friendly. This was by far the trashiest Target I've ever visited. Empty shelves, products placed on the wrong rack and the prices displayed were lower than what the lookup tool and what I paid at checkout. I skipped my regular Target on Spottswood as their website said stock was depleted. It also said low stock at this location but of course there was no stock here either. And I was approached by a panhandler inside the store! That took me totally by surprise. There were plenty of employees working on the floor, big flat carts blocking space and access. Maybe they just hired a batch of people but from the familiarity of their conversation I don't think they were that new. In any case, it'll be a while before I pay this location a visit again. I've been to a lot of targets. While visiting other Targets in Memphis, this was the best one by far. The location is great, very nice location and upper middle class for sure. The one down the street is a joke. The holiday selection here was really nice and by looking through the store the visual appearance is that of a store manager who cares about their store. I purchased a bunch of Christmas lights for my wife's parents house and was very pleased with the display of each of the lights so as a customer I could make a better choice as to what type of light to buy. I purchased more actually. The picture on the box just doesn't cut it. Being able to see the lights and touch them is great. The employees at the checkout were nice as well. I just got assaulted by security because I had been shopping for a while, cart got full, and I put my stuff in a trash bin I was also purchasing. I was ringing up and had forgotten about it and went to walk out and what I'm guessing was security stepped in front of my cart and proceeded to push it into me. I then was told to go to the office where I tried to explain what happened and they took my phone and purse away from me, handcuffed me, and put me in the back of a police car. I now have a citation for an honest accident and I'm so furious at the way I was just handled for an honest mistake. The employees and security were out of control and I'm SO glad they also banned me because I will never give target my money again. I'm 120 pounds and a woman and a target security guard assaulted me over some clothes I forgot about. I will let everyone know how I was treated and make sure something gets done about this as soon as possible. I may be small but I'm full of fight and I will never let an abusive man who's power hungry hurt me. I have bruises from handcuffs and where the basket hit my hips. This was pure insanity and I'm still in so much shock. read more

Very rude customer service. An employee "CHRISTIAN " sold a tv to someone else that I had and was waiting to purchase. He had to go back into the storage area that took him 15 minutes to get another one. When I was checking out i said that was rude for him to do that. He then said sorry but i still told him that it was rude. At that point he said he wasnt sorry and started to walk around the counter to get in my personal space. I shouldn't have to worry for my safety just to go inside by myself. Not all Targets are created equally! This one is the newest and best in Memphis. It is spacious, with more clothing options. Think more sizes, more colors, more choices. The dollar spot is bigger- more ways to spend a dollar or $2.50. That's right some items in the "dollar" spot are $2.50, shop wisely! The Starbucks and food area is great with lots of seating and is always clean. My three year old of course loves the popcorn, you can keep him occupied for a $1.00 while you shop. The baskets are even better- they are bright, new, shiny and clean! I love this Target and even though I live 30 minutes away I find reasons to go there. I know, it's crazy. Like any other Target, you will go in for 1 item and leave with at least 10 other things you did not need, but suddenly can't live without. It's relatively new, has everything you could possibly need/want and the employees seem to enjoy their jobs and are actually helpful! The Starbucks inside is nice as well with lots of seating. The only issue I ever had was with the lipstick...always check it! The last lipstick I bought had been opened and used, yuck! I went to customer service and they refunded it without any hassle. So there's something to be said for living up to my expectations that I could come here and pick up the odds and ends my Mom and aunt needed during my visit. Its spacious without giving you the cavernous feeling like you need a golf cart to ride around to do your shopping. Departments were laid out like most Targets and prices were nicely competitive. Hitting up Health & Beauty, Electronics, Grocery, the only real disappointment was the Womens department. This is the closest target to midtown/West memphis area. What it lacks in decor, cleanliness, safety, and variety of items, it more than makes up for it in spunk and character. There are bigger Target's in the area, but this one gets its job done. It's Target. This store is bigger and new than the one on Colonial, so I tend to shop here even thought it's a longer drive. Obviously it's a great place to stock up on essentials (I pretty much always buy the Up & Up Target brand, since it's the cheapest), and I buy most of my workout clothes here too, since they're more reasonably priced than Sports Authority. And sometimes having less selection is a good thing -- fewer choices makes it easier to choose! However, I've learned to check items, especially clothing, for quality issues. I was able to return a t-shirt when the hem completely unraveled 6 weeks after I bought it, but I wasn't so lucky when the zipper broke on my $30 warm-up jacket -- they basically told me that they didn't care that the jacket was rendered useless due to a tiny crack on the bottom of the zipper. And I almost bought a summer dress before realizing that it wasn't actually hemmed, just stitched along the edge and just cut, with the raw edge still showing. Cheap much? And as with all Targets, customer service is hit and miss. My cashier today actually smiled at me and said hello, but that's not necessarily a given. Long check-out lines are also pretty common, which can be frustrating. But hey, it's better than braving Wal-Mart! read more

Swung into today on the way home for a couple of items. Found this Target stocks A&W Cream Soda. Cream soda floats have been added to the holiday weekend menu. I've been to many a target in my life, something about this one struck me and my companions as quite odd. It seems like there's 1.5x times as much space in this one as any other target. Like they were building a Super Target but decided to hold off on the Super part and then just stretched out a normal target to fill it. I have an odd, yet fascinating adoration for Target. You know that question that was in every single Myspace survey ever made- "If you could max your credit card out at any store of your choice, which would it be?" Yeah, mine would be Target. Lame? Perhaps. Regardless, I speak the truth. When I walk into a Target, my heart races with the thought of the impending items I shall place in my cart. A wonderful, plaid, women's hat? Yes Please! Racks upon racks of extremely reasonably priced, uber trendy jewelry pieces? Yes please! Scarves, wallets, bed linens, Paula Deen cookware? Check, check, check and check! The DVD end cap stocked from floor to ceiling with $5 DVD options? Throw ten in the cart! Oh and the clothes! They aren't the best garments in the world, but I have to admit that Target has upped their game in the way of trendy, stylish clothing options. I also tend to stumble across at least 2-3 pairs of shoes that I must have to place upon my feet immediately. This particular Target is my favorite in Memphis. It's clean, new, has a great selection, and ALL their check out lines always seem to be open and running when I come here to make my purchases. The only thing that would make this place better? I go to the line and I put my basket on the counter the young lady there said "you can go ahead and empty your basket". I know it's silly to review such a huge chain, but I like this Target out of all the Memphis area Targets. I go to Target at least once a week, and the only other one I will go to is the one on Colonial. The Starbucks in this one is really nice and spacious. I find that this one doesn't run out of clearance as quickly as the one on Colonial. Parking is also much better here than the Colonial one. read more
