It was also a nice walk down memory lane to visit. Kmart was part of my youth growing up, having a store within walking distance during my pre-driving days. Unfortunately, they were on a slow than faster decline, culminating in their closing their last mainland US store in 2024. But here in Australia, they continue to be a large presence, with 214 total stores, 52 in New South Wales. I was curious about the history of Kmart in Australia: -- first one opened in 1969, as a joint venture between Kmart US and Coles Meyer Australia, with Kmart US owning 51% -- in 1978, Kmart US traded its share in Kmart-Australia for a 20% share of Coles. -- in 1994, Kmart US solds all of its shares, making a Kmart-Australia a completely separate entity. I did buy something here: been looking for Pokemon trading cards for my daughter, and found a collector set here with many expander decks for retail price. Pokemon cards seem to be popular again, and haven't been able to find any without significant markup. Checkout was self, but I needed a lot of help since the item was security secured. They also scan your receipt for any purchased items as you leave the store. Wouldn't say the workers would add to the stereotype of Aussies being so friendly. Didn't see any 'blue light specials' when I was there. Later learned that they had them very early in their existence in Australia, but they went away once it broke away from the US mothership.

They generally have great customer service and I must say probably the best return policy I have ever seen. I actually saw someone return an item that was over 10 years old (with receipt) and staff graciously took it and refunded the money. Good on them. It's the normal DJ's with department store layout catering for most things you could desire. Neat and tidy. The food section is one of my favourites. Often I find some of the best deals in the sale section. My first port of call. lol

The store itself is busy (as expected), but well run and stocked. Everything feels clean and organized, and the staff keep things moving even during peak times. If you shop at Costco and care about seafood, this location is absolutely worth the trip. Easily stands out from other Costcos I've visited. I want this supply in the USA.

Perhaps it's your layout that often resembles a Tempe tip-like shambles of rolls of fabric. ( Though I admit your epic cushion wall is quite the sight) Perhaps it's that by the time I get to you, your staff have had a gut full, of other annoying women wanting to discuss bias and overlocking, buttons and just whether that fabric she is buying will look good as a skirt. They just don't seem to give a sh*t. So much so that with 10 mins to close, someone at the front had announced 3 times over the P.A. that everyone should get the heck out now, in not so many words. I'll forgive you though for the fact I saw some very appealing Yeti fake fur whilst looking for what I actually wanted, but of course you didnt have. It was in fact labelled "Yeti Fur", and I shall return for that because it is going to make a bitchin' vest/coat. You also have some pretty whacky craft supplies and a whole isle of party costumes. There's a train station about 10-15 minutes walk away. Alternatively you can get a cab and that might save you the hassle. My other alternative is to get to Lindcraft in the city, but I was discouraged because of all the peoples. Suffice to say, for a place that was meant to stock their speciality blend of yarn that I got from them to make a blanket the year before, they stopped stocking so I've had to re-adjust my blanket and start with a different colour in the hopes that it's not going to look like something the cat puked over. But for cheap and nasty yarn for blankets and throws, this is probably the place I'd suggest. Apparently they do other things like crafts, fabric, haberdashery and the likes. But I never quite got to that bit. I usually only go in to get what I need and then get the hell out. Even then it usually takes about an hour. They never seem to have enough people on the counters and there is always a line. Maybe next time I'm going to have to brave the people in the city.

We came for a visit during our three day cruise layover in Sydney. Later I learned that despite the name and similar logos, they are completely different companies with different origin stories. Target (Australia) was founded as a name change from Lindsay's to Lindsay's Target in 1968 by its parent company, Myers. [Six years earlier, Dayton US opened its first Target store in the US, an attempt for a discount chain under its more prestigious flagship department stores]. When Myer merged with Coles in 1985, it became part of the 'Kmart' division of Coles. In fact, Kmart is quite a bit bigger than Coles in Australia today, both being owned by Wesfarmers when it purchased Coles in 2007. So in reality, Target Australia has more history with Kmart U.S. than its namesake in the US.

THEY HAVE THE *GALL* TO REFUSE A REFUND UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES!?!? The demand my bank account number! They demand 4-6 weeks turn around time for their "Accounts" team to process the refund. WHAT. A. JOKE. Don't bother with this clown company. Absolute clown circus square go.
