La Parilla Mexican Restaurant in Greenville, SC is my favorite!…read moreThe ambiance and vibe are welcoming, lively and inviting. Our waitress was Juliette and she was amazing. She was so kind, patient and knowledgeable. I asked for her opinion regarding a couple of menu items I wanted to choose from and she was more than happy to recommend what she thought I would enjoy most. Juliette also made our spicy fresh salsa herself and it was absolutely delicious! My husband had the shrimp and chicken fajita's and I had the Carne Asada and we both could not stop commenting on how excellent everything was prepared and delicious the food was! I just can't say enough about the incredible food, service and ambiance. I truly love this place and whenever I am in the Greenville area, there is nothing that could keep me from returning to this gem of a restaurant! Thank you so much Juliette for your awesome service, kindness and positive customer service we had the pleasure of enjoying while visiting with you! Juliette obviously loves her job and is truly excellent at what she does. Please ask for her when you visit as you will not be disappointed!

I try so hard to never be demanding or unkind--I already hate having to be different. It's not a fad, it's celiac, I have no choice. It's extremely embarrassing and downright rude to be treated this way for simply asking a question. So if you're gluten free, they have great options, but it's very clear they do not like serving those with allergies.

Viva Villa is a Mexican eatery/bar located on South Main St in downtown Greenville adjacent to…read moreFluor Field. The interiors are colorfully decorated with plenty of indoor or bar area seating, and limited patio seating out front. I liked that their menu had cheaper options for food for those not looking to eat a full meal, which makes it ideal for visiting either before or after a game at the adjacent ballpark. Meals start off with complimentary chips and salsa, which is always appreciated while waiting for meals to be prepared. I went with 2 chicken quesadillas (one with grilled chicken and one with shredded chicken). I found both to be extremely flavorful, with high quality tortilla shell and wonderfully delicious cheese that hit all the right notes with me. Service was extremely quick and friendly as well. I wouldn't hesitate to return and would gladly recommend Viva Villa to others looking for good Mexican food in Greenville.

Chips and salsa are not complimentary, but you do get these cute little wagon wheel looking chips called duros. They're like puffed air and remind me of pork rinds but not as crunchy and probably made from flour. The drinks are all delicious and strong. The margaritas are small but watch out, they'll sneak up on you! Lots of options. They specialize in tequila and mezcal with flights as an option. The bar is the spot to be; bartenders are friendly and they have small TVs to watch whatever sports are in season. The atmosphere is a little lacking in my opinion, but it's all about the food. Food is delicious and the portions are larger than expected. We got the chips and queso, Heidi's Flautas, soup of the day, and the Birria Egg Rolls. Too much food for 2 people so we took some home. Location is in a strip mall; parking is tight and can be a challenge. We won't let that stop us though! We will be back for those delicious Birria Egg Rolls and margaritas!

Our waiter was a superstar- in talking with him he shared he was from Ecuador and made suggestions for our lunch choice. We started with the beef and chicken empanadas- very good- and an order of maduros- ripe plantains. We should have stopped there because I was almost full at that point. For our entrees we chose shrimp mofongo- which we really see in small cities being that it is the national dish of Puerto Rico- and the paella for one. Both were wonderful. I would argue that the size of the paella should be be renamed as a lid of a trashcan serving. It was giant and we barely put a dent in it before asking for a to go box.
