Supreme quesadilla
Christine A.

My husband and I were getting pedicures right next door and had limited time for lunch so we popped in to this gem! Service was great, everything came out quick and our food was delicious. I got the supreme quesadilla and my husband got the tacos, both were very good and price was definitely reasonable. Definitely recommend this hidden gem!

It was nearing lunch hour and we considered Mexican food, intending to drive a few miles distance…read moreto another restaurant but chose to go here, across the street. We had not dined here in years, maybe as many as six or seven, primarily due to not wanting to fight traffic on Woodruff Road. We easily got here and chose a nice outdoor dining table, which surprisingly had little to no traffic noise and was quite pleasant. The standard salsa was slightly tangy and spicy with a front of the mouth heat, so i asked for the hotter version, thicker and more back of the throat, creeper heat. Mixing them is the move. The tacos tinga are stuffed full of tinga shredded chicken, two is enough, with creme fresh on top and served with double tortillas in a rack. I chose corn but flour tortillas are an option. These were good, juicy and flavorful. I would say a seven of ten, not overly a taste explosion but just a hint. The refried beans were a mix of refried puréed and whole beans and they were a ten of ten for flavor and texture. My wife enjoyed the chicken taco salad, chicken was tender and overall deemed "good" but not her favorite in town, yet still a repeatable option when nearby. We were immediately seated and served and our server was attentive through our meal. The table was very wobbly when seated, i fixed it, but the server noted my meddling with this and brought over napkins to help out, which was nice. The restaurant is clean and more upscale Mexican as a hacienda rather than the sometimes caricature Mexican decor of other places. In general, why did we wait so long to come back here? Probably because now I am retired and not in a hurry to get anywhere, so chilling at a hacienda for lunch is nice.

I try so hard to never be demanding or unkind--I already hate having to be different. It's not a fad, it's celiac, I have no choice. It's extremely embarrassing and downright rude to be treated this way for simply asking a question. So if you're gluten free, they have great options, but it's very clear they do not like serving those with allergies.

The interiors are colorfully decorated with plenty of indoor or bar area seating, and limited patio seating out front. I liked that their menu had cheaper options for food for those not looking to eat a full meal, which makes it ideal for visiting either before or after a game at the adjacent ballpark. Meals start off with complimentary chips and salsa, which is always appreciated while waiting for meals to be prepared. I went with 2 chicken quesadillas (one with grilled chicken and one with shredded chicken). I found both to be extremely flavorful, with high quality tortilla shell and wonderfully delicious cheese that hit all the right notes with me. Service was extremely quick and friendly as well. I wouldn't hesitate to return and would gladly recommend Viva Villa to others looking for good Mexican food in Greenville.

Chips and salsa are not complimentary, but you do get these cute little wagon wheel looking chips called duros. They're like puffed air and remind me of pork rinds but not as crunchy and probably made from flour. The drinks are all delicious and strong. The margaritas are small but watch out, they'll sneak up on you! Lots of options. They specialize in tequila and mezcal with flights as an option. The bar is the spot to be; bartenders are friendly and they have small TVs to watch whatever sports are in season. The atmosphere is a little lacking in my opinion, but it's all about the food. Food is delicious and the portions are larger than expected. We got the chips and queso, Heidi's Flautas, soup of the day, and the Birria Egg Rolls. Too much food for 2 people so we took some home. Location is in a strip mall; parking is tight and can be a challenge. We won't let that stop us though! We will be back for those delicious Birria Egg Rolls and margaritas!

Our waiter was a superstar- in talking with him he shared he was from Ecuador and made suggestions for our lunch choice. We started with the beef and chicken empanadas- very good- and an order of maduros- ripe plantains. We should have stopped there because I was almost full at that point. For our entrees we chose shrimp mofongo- which we really see in small cities being that it is the national dish of Puerto Rico- and the paella for one. Both were wonderful. I would argue that the size of the paella should be be renamed as a lid of a trashcan serving. It was giant and we barely put a dent in it before asking for a to go box. I highly recommend this spot!
