I just love this food. It's always good. Family-owned, very clean, friendly... tons of flavors of Jarritos, and have I mentioned the FOOD IS DELICIOUS?? The spicy red salsa is SPICY. Not like, gonna destroy your taste buds spicy, but that kind of actual flavor combined with heat. I've had all of their meats and they're ALL good. Also, we've been in twice during the pandemic and their hand sanitizer is never empty, tables are always clean, staff are always wearing masks. First visit. Went for lunch, ordered the 3 tacos (corn tortillas) rice and beans lunch special. I ordered take out. Rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly, beans were flavorful (I normally do not like refried beans but I ate it all this time). The steak tacos were flavorful as well. Normally I am gung-ho about any restaurant with the word 'Taqueria' in it. This place really didn't hit the spot for me though. We went later in the evening so there wasn't much of a rush. When you walk in, there are a few things that make themselves clear. The place is clearly family run and the place is authentic. The place is brightly painted with knick-knacks to decorate the place. Spanish music was billowing from the kitchen while a Mexican talk show played on the TV. The place also looks like the kids (well teens) help out after school. They assemble your food at the counter which is nice. (Think Chipotle or Subway) Now for the food. There were 2 positives. The tacos were good and possibly worth a second go at the place. Also, the tamales were an excellent size. They weren't the thinner ones that seem to be the MI norm. What really got me was the tamale plate as a whole though. The beans were runny which would normally be fine if they weren't the first thing on the plate. Then ended up acting as a sort of secondary sauce to the rest of my food. If I would have known, I would have totally asked for a bowl or something. The red sauce on the tamales was good but a little under seasoned. Now for the rice, it looked an awful lot like fried rice. There were carrots, corn, peas and another type of greenish bean mixed in. I'm no stranger to a veggie getting thrown in for flavor, texture or cost. But this wasn't seasoned much and just didn't bode well for texture. The tamale filling also had the mystery bean mixed in. I know that every household has a different spin on food, but the combination of being an outlier regarding what's normal AND under seasoning the food, that's what is making me hesitant to try this place again. If you do want to give this place a go, check out the fridge by the counter. They have a few house made hot sauces in there. read more

I ordered lengua tacos to go and they were disappointing. They were not juicy and the taste was very bland, the cilantro was not fresh and looked old. We also ordered a 10" steak burrito wet, well it did not come wet and we were charged extra for it. Had no top sauce on it and the steak was very mediocre. Lastly, they did not give us any sauces or salsa verde or the small little containers of the red and green sauce or any lime or sour cream which says on the menu that it comes with it. I did not specifically ask for it but I've never ordered from a Mexican food joint that doesn't give that out complimentary. It wasn't the worst Mexican food I've had but I wouldn't order from them again. read more

Authentic Mexican in Standale. I stopped in and ordered 3 tacos and chips and salsa. The set up is similar to Qdoba you have the option to add various toppings and sauces to your order. I ordered lengua, al pastor and chorizo on corn tortillas. The lengua was disappointing, I heard it being microwaved and the result was tough, rubbery meat. The other 2 meats were much better, the pork being the best. Their chips are freshly made and the salsa was delicious. They offer 2 sauces, red (hot) and green (mild) and they were excellent as well. For an area with not a lot of local choices this is a great addition. Worth a try if you're nearby. read more

Place has gone downhill! They took out the soda machine to add ice cream. Not everybody wants to drink a can of Coca-Cola. Tried asking for ice water and they told me to buy an overpriced bottle of water. Food was OK but not like before. I ordered two enchiladas and a taco. They thought it would be a good idea to put both items in one box along with enchilada sauce all over my taco. We'll that worked out good trying to eat a taco. read more

UPDATE: This place has gone down hill fast. The last 2 times we've been in we encountered lazy employees sitting in the dining room reading and watching TV. Today we were told they were out of Chorizo so we picked something else but then we were told they were out of chopped onions and cilantro! Really?!? How can you be out of chopped onions and cilantro at a Mexican restaurant?? Seriously? Maybe stop wasting time watching TV and go get onions and cilantro. With Stan Diego opening around the corner they won't last long if they don't go back to how they operated when they first opened. I hope they figure it out cuz we like to support local places. Yummy!! Excellent value and great flavor. Taco are $2 each and 2-3 will fill you up. We had tacos and burritos. It's set up like quodoba where you get to tell them everything you want in your food which I love! We tried the shredded chicken, pork and steak and they were all great! The mango salsa was awesomely me and I loved the guacamole sauce too. The only thing I'd change- I wish they had real guacamole for chips instead of just the sauce and they need to salt their chips- I can't stand unsalted chips! But we will be back cuz I couldn't make the food that cheap and mine wouldn't taste that good either read more

Recently opened near Wilson & Lake Michigan Drive (connected to Party Time, next to Marathon) -- a very nice option for some authentic tacos in Standale. I had three tacos on corn w/ cilantro & onion-- pastor, barbacoa, & asada (which was my favorite). One thing that's a little different (and I actually liked quite a bit) is that this is set up more like a Qdoba (but with more authentic ingredients) -- where you go down the line and tell them your ingredients... hadn't seen that in a restaurant like this before! Very simply, it's a locally-owned, authentic Mexican spot for what we found to be delicious tacos. Our food was great, the staff were friendly, and we shared lunch of 4 tacos and an order of chips and salsa for the cost of two fancy lattes. The al pastor was good, the salsas were medium good. The rice, beans and tortillas were typical for this kind of place. You order at the counter and can choose your toppings and see what you're getting so that's a plus. It's a classic 3 stars kind of a place to me. Have been here over 2 dozen times and normally a great time..However, not sure if it was because today is Tuesday and tacos are $1.50 but the tacos were less than what was past experienced. On any other day your tacos get 2 scoops of meat (not today only 1) and they didn't drain it (soggy taco), also your tacos have fresh ingredients (had to "ring" out my lettuce from the bath of water it was soaking in) while the Chorizo was down to crumbs but he rationed enough pretty sure thats why the small tacos today. So maybe chalk this up to getting tacos on Tuesday at 5:30pm when they have a Taco Tuesday special or they are starting to shrink portions to gain profit, IDK. But will try them again to see if this is a trend or a rare occasion. So based on todays experience you get 3 stars. read more

Horribly pathetic management and service. The two girls and father are extremely unpleasant to even talk to as if they do not want to be there or you are interrupting what they were doing, which is usually sitting around watching tv or doing homework. This establishment was great to begin with and had some things i enjoy. For instance, pork tamales. They offer a basic red chili pork tamale as well as a chicken one. (which taste like a chicken and dumplings dish) The pork tamale is either extremely popular or they make very little. Not to mention their tamales are way too big.. tons of mesa with an ok proportion of pork. None the less they always run out of them.. i have came in several times wanting a pork tamale to either being told they were out (6 times total) or being given the chicken in place of the pork without being told. (This has happened 3 times and one out of the three times i got 1 pork 1 chicken) Over the past couple of months i quit going there for that reason. Today, i came back in to give them another shot to find out, they were out of pork tamales, again. I will not be returning. Note to the staff, you are not the only ones fluent in spanish, so you should really watch what you say in front of customer. read more

So glad this place came to Standale. Everything is excellent and authentic. We have tried tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and fajita burritos. We come once a week at least for take out and much prefer this over Stan Diego. For those who have left poor reviews about the service, they must only be used to fine dining. This is a local family owned, authentic Mexican, quick stop restaurant. The kids that work the counter and register are the children of the owners who literally work everyday after school. I have come in while a 7th grader is doing her homework at a table and jumped up to help me at the counter. Ok food but horrible service. Out of beans but still charged me full price for my meal. The two young woman were laughing and telling jokes, one took my girlfriends order and then walked off laughing. We finally got a young man to help us. He was nice and tried at least. When I asked the girl at the front of she could see how long for more beans she started laughing and walked away but never even asked. Then I asked her again 5 minutes later and she said they were out for the day. Ultimately I'm ashamed I spent my hard earned cash there I just said to myself let's at least try the food. Was not bad but that service ruined it for me. Won't go back and strongly would not recommend until they have adults working or at least semi professional kids. Ended up going to taco bell to get beans. May not be the best but at least they have it and at least they're professional!!!! read more
