Usually I look at mall food with dread mainly because I can't maintain my gluten free needs and I know the experience will be followed with bloating, pain, and itching. Walking by Zason Latino I noticed they had gluten free options. I stopped to talk with them and they were so amazing about letting me know all the options which were amazing and they gave me a taste of the barbacoa beef which cooks slowly for 12 hours and oh my goodness... obviously I ended up getting that! Three barbacoa street tacos with onions and cilantro, and the guy gave me a side of the medium and hot salsa and the queso because I wasn't sure what I should have. Their customer service is truly impressive, 5 stars! So I sat down and put the queso on one taco, medium salsa on another, and hot on the last. I love spice! So like Nashville Hot chicken in Nashville kind of hot. No kidding just read my other reviews. Anyway, the nacho sauce was a good add for all three. No heat at all. The medium was okay but I ended up adding the hot to that as well, so the hot ended up being the winner for me. It's spicy and a bit smoky, neither of them had a hot sauce type vinegar kick which is great because it's salsa but it has a hot sauce look more than salsa. Very flavorful and added to the meat very well. The tacos were FULL, they don't skimp on filling them, and I was full after two honestly. Food freshness gains 4 stars simply because the cilantro could have been a bit more fresh but it was still fine to eat. Food quality is 5 stars because they put their love into this food with 12 hours of cook time and I could taste it. Cleanliness is hard to gauge, it's a mall restaurant so I feel like I couldn't see their cleanliness too well and I can't attribute mall cleanliness to them, so we will just skip that this time. Same for ambiance. So that's 4.6 stars total which we are rounding to 5 stars! Great job guys and thank you for being here, it's not easy for people like me to find safe food options outside of home. I hope to try your other locations. Now when I see Zason Latino at any of the other malls in town, I will know you are safe and yummy!!

The servers offered us a free sample while we were staring at their menu The chicken quesadilla is the sample we got and I ended up ordering one. We bought horchata, two quesadillas, & fried Oreos. The Horchata was really good A little watered down but it was still mellow and perfectly made. The quesadillas were fantastic- The only thing that we didn't care for was the deep fried Oreos because the Oreos were a little mushy and not breaded as well as you would hope. All in all I would go here again I just probably wouldn't get deep fried Oreos until they get the hang of deep frying them I highly recommend freezing them before deep frying them.

The 3 tacos I got were el pastor, asada, and barbacoa (for a slight upcharge). All three were delicious and my favorite was the el pastor for sure. My wife got the quesabirria dinner which came with three quesabirria tacos, beans, and rice. We had to order the comsome on the side because it didn't come with it, which I felt was a little odd. We also got a side of chips and queso and they were great! The food was prepared quickly and made for an easy take out experience. Overall the food was tasty, but lacked some flavor, especially the birria which we had high hopes for. If you are in the same area I'd recommend the Quesabirria at Tamale Mary just down the round! The taco dinner was a great value to me since it was only $7.99! I'd for sure go back for a quick and affordable meal on a tuesday and I'm interested in trying more things!

The menu is large and it was a bit busy and chaotic inside, so I just went with some of my standards: an asada taco and a barbacoa quesadilla. I also ordered a small jamaica (hibiscus drink). They also have a cooler with Jarritos and canned pop. Our food was brought out to us at our table and everything looked delicious! The steak was tender and flavorful and the tortillas were fresh. I really liked the quesadilla--it was a generous portion and had plenty of meat. I'm really glad I got to try this spot and I'd love to come back. I think they do a taco deal on Mondays. Note you do pay more per item if you use a card and the fees add up! Bring cash! We had the asada taco dinner - tacos were good but the rice and beans were very bland. I loved the tortillas! We also ordered chips and salsa which was around $8 you pay for the chips and salsa separately. We were not a fan of the salsas heavy garlic flavor but that's just our personal preference. The chips were warm and seasoned! We also ordered the chorizo and papa pambazo which was amazing and not soggy at all! We ordered an asada torta as well and the bread was toasted perfectly but overall it lacked flavor. I wanted to try the queso chili relleno but they forgot to bring that. If you want an agua fresca they did seem to be popular as everyone was ordering them. We had the cucumber one and enjoyed it! Overall we paid $45 for everything which is similar to prices elsewhere. I added extra sauces, and it made it even more delicious. I also had to try their spiciest sauce on the side since I love spicy food and have a pretty high tolerance. As a spice lover, for once a sauce actually got me! It definitely packed some heat, but I still enjoyed every bite and was happy I gave it a try (although could not finish!!). The food itself deserves credit. Everything we had was flavorful, and the prices were reasonable. There is absolutely the makings of a great restaurant here. Unfortunately, the execution and service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter never introduced himself and wasn't wearing a name tag, so I couldn't even tell you his name. After explaining how the ordering system worked, he took our drink order and disappeared. He eventually returned with our drinks, picked up our order sheet, and then we never saw him again. My drink was served in a glass packed with ice, so it was gone in about two sips. That might not be a huge deal under normal circumstances, but when you're eating spicy food, having nothing to drink becomes pretty noticeable. There were also no straws. I ordered two items, one of which required utensils. My date ordered a bowl and was given a plastic fork. I received nothing. We tried to flag someone down for another fork but couldn't get anyone's attention, so we ended up sharing one fork. About halfway through our meal, we finally managed to get someone's attention and asked for a fork and drink refills. A young woman came by at what can only be described as warp speed, dropped a flimsy plastic spork on the table, and streaked away. The spork was so flimsy that it was nearly impossible to eat with. Then there was the 3% debit card surcharge. I understand businesses have costs associated with credit cards, but being charged an additional 3% simply for paying with a debit card was disappointing especially when the overall service had already been so lacking. That pretty much summed up the entire experience: the food was good, but the service and attention to detail simply weren't there. Barrio has the potential to be a 5 star experience, but the execution, service, and overall customer experience need significant improvement. Management really needs to take a hard look at the basics.... introducing servers, checking on tables, providing utensils, keeping drinks filled, and simply making customers feel like someone is paying attention. 4-5 star food with a 1-2 star experience. I'd consider coming back because the food was good. I just hope the service catches up to it.
