Taco Tuesday at Poncho's Tacos was so good! I'd never been before as it's a bit far from my house, but it was totally worth the drive. It's cash only, but they do have an ATM inside. The menu consists of your typical items like tacos, burritos, Panchos (nachos), tortas, and more. They also have a lunch special and a daily deal (3 tacos, rice, and beans for $12.50 but no mix and match proteins). Since it was taco tuesday, tacos were $2.50. Nate got three tacos (al pastor, asada, and tinga) and I got a wet burrito with asada. We also ordered a horchata to share and chips and salsa. They have some dine in space but were doing a lot of takeout orders while we were there. Our chips and salsa came out first and the rest of our food shortly after that. The tacos came without toppings since you can load them up with their salsa/toppings bar. The tacos were super stuffed with meat! The burrito was massive - we shared it and still had leftovers for the next day. I tried each of the tacos and they were all delicious. The meats were not dry and again the portions were generous. I really liked the burrito as it was full of meat, cheese, beans, rice, guacamole, lettuce... it had it all. I wish the fillings were mixed up a bit more but it was so tasty. Service was great - we were asked how our meal was and they cleared our table when we were done. I'm really glad we finally made it to Poncho's Tacos and will definitely keep them on my Taco Tuesday list for the future! read more

His former favorite taco place, El Cunado, are skimpy on filling and he didn't care for their pastor (his fav). At Panchos he is in HEAVEN! He LOVES the Al pastor tacos here and on taco Tuesday they are $2.50 each. We both also really like the Asada. I also got a small rice, but prob wouldn't order again. Came here for a quick lunch for pescatarian meal. Fish tacos were pretty good. Shrimp was well cooked too. I like that you can put whatever toppings you want from the salsa bar and how much you want. My fiancee and I order from Poncho's Tacos regularly and I cannot remember a time we have ever been disappointed. They get our order correct 90% of the time. We love to get the 3 taco special with rice and beans, but I have also tried the loaded fries, and their guacamole is very good as well. They're the best tacos I have had thus far in the Grand Rapids area and I highly recommend. They do have a terminal now to accept card and tap to pay payments as well as cash, which made payment much easier. read more

Poncho's has been my go to take out place lately. Their steak quesadillas are literally so good and I like that they serve it with the veggie toppings and condiments. I tried their chicken sopes for the first time recently and it was really delicious too! I think I would try it with a different meat choice next time. I was looking for a taco place to get lunch, this came up, and it was everything I wanted! It was a smaller building, with even a smaller amount of parking, but the inside was very nice. It was very convenient that there were several tables for dining in. The decor and natural lighting was good, but the music was a little bit loud. The food was wonderful! I always try the lengua at any place that has it, and theirs was some of the best. Not too fatty, but super tender. The service was also good. We were helped quickly, and the food came out pretty quickly too. I liked that there was a self serve station where you could add toppings after your food came. The lady who took our orders did check on us too, even though they don't have actual servers, which I thought was nice. The only downside was that we got a total of 6 tacos, 2 small sides of rice, and 2 drinks, and it came out to $44. That was kind of surprising, and I don't know if I would come here very often just because of that. But I guess that's also just the cost of going out now! Ordered a chicken burrito (grilled chix, not shredded) and a steak taco. Both were good, although the taco was on the smaller side, and at $4.25 a taco it ends up being $1 per bite. I was disappointed that they no longer have carnitas...they were the best in town. I live about 20 minutes from Pancho's and would make the trip just for the carnitas, but since they're no longer available I'll probably just go there only if I happen to be in the area. read more

If you're looking for authentic tacos with a pleasing aesthetic, Poncho's Tacos is the place to be! I've been wanting to try this place out for forever ever since I saw their Ad on Instagram, but it's a bit of a drive from where I live. I finally convinced my husband to take me in honor of my birthday month, and he obliged. Boy, am I glad that he finally took me here! I ordered a Tripe Taco and Tongue Taco, and my husband ordered a Steak Torta. We also ordered the Pancho's, which are their nachos. Everything was delicious! Both the tripe taco and tongue taco were soft but flavorful. I've had some dry, chewy tripe tacos before, so I was very happy to find that their tripe taco was easy to eat and didn't feel as though I was chewing on rubber. My tacos came with cilantro and onion, and were were served with the usual sides of lime, onion, and radish. The nachos were tasty as well. I'm not sure if their chips are homemade, but I love that they were extra crunchy, didn't taste oily, and weren't overly salted. The toppings on the nachos were evenly distributed, so we had 'stuff' on every single chip instead of having to sparsely distribute the toppings through the layers. The cashier came to check on us throughout our time there, and gave us free chips and guac when we told her that it was out first time there. Totally unexpected, and a gesture that we really appreciated! I have been wanting to try Ponchos since they opened and I heard all of the hype. It's quite the drive from my house but I eventually said screw it, I need authentic tacos. The staff is so friendly and the food was delicious. It was ready in less than 10 minutes even while they were busy. I ordered 3 tacos that include chicken, steak, and chorizo. They come with cilantro and onion, because they're authentic! They included some grilled onions, a pepper, limes, and 2 types of sauce. The red sauce was definitely spicier than the green but they both had great flavor. The chorizo was probably my favorite because it was bursting with flavor. It has a small dining area, so either come during a slower time, plan on doing carryout, or anticipate that you might have to take your food to go. The customer service was fantastic - it has the feel of a small, family run place and the people working were very friendly and helpful in making a decision on what to get. The ordering process was simple - as soon as you walk in, the counter is right there with overhead menus. You order right away, pay for your meal and then they bring it out to you when it's ready. Having experienced authentic tacos in places like Mexico, San Diego and Austin, I was skeptical about finding a decent taco in the heart of the Midwest. I was wrong. Poncho's Tacos may not just be the best taco in Grand Rapids, but they are serving up noteworthy authentic tacos. Located in a strip mall (what isn't in a strip mall in West Michigan) in Wyoming, my wife, daughter and I stopped for tacos to bring to nearby Millennium Park's summer free live music on Mondays. We ordered and only waited 5-7 minutes before our dinner was ready. On Mondays, they sell three tacos, beans and rice for under $10. The chicken taco without onion and cilantro was perfect for my four-year-old daughter. We ordered a large chips and guacamole, which was probably too big for our family of three. The shrimp and chorizo tacos were perfect. They come in two corn tortillas with grilled peppers and spring onions on the side. The carnitas tacos were tasty, but a little dry. If you love spice, put the green sauce on your tacos. For a spicy, but more mild sauce, go for the red. The rice and beans were among the best I've had. We have been loyal Poncho Taco customers since their Wyoming location opened and we were so happy when they opened their 2nd location closer to our home. We loved them so much, we reached out for catering for our upcoming wedding. However, we are extremely disappointed with the customer service provided when making our catering inquiry. I first reached out via Facebook messenger a year ago when we first got engaged, and they left my message on read. Fast forward a year, we were ready to book a caterer so I reached out to Poncho again, this time by email (listed on their Facebook page to reach out for catering) and I did not receive a response until I commented on a post they put on Facebook requesting that someone get back to me. That was after I sent another Facebook message that they again, left on read 2 days prior. I genuinely feel like if I wouldn't have made a public comment, they wouldn't have responded. When they did get back to me, they provided very limited information; just that they have a 100 person minimum and it was 23.99 pp + fees, with pictures of their condiment bar and food truck. They did not include a menu, or include what food would be included in the quoted price or even what level of service they'd be offering. It felt very transactional and not like they cared about the possibility of catering our wedding. We decided to go with a different caterer that clearly laid out options and provided exceptional customer service. Still, just because their catering customer service isn't up to par, we still like their food so we grabbed them for dinner again tonight. We were surprised to find that our total was $90 for 10 tacos, asada fries and an asada quesadilla. Something we used to pay $65-70 for. They've raised their prices, took their menu offline and did not inform their customers of the price raise. While their food is good, it's not the best I've ever had. Tonight, our fries were soggy and our quesadilla was floppy. For $90 - that's ridiculous. I've also noticed their customer service in general declining in person when picking up our order as well as how they interact with customers online. They are very condescending in their responses. While Ponchos is convenient, there are just too many other great taco places out there that offer great customer service and price transparency to continue to support them. They also no longer offer their 3 taco, rice and bean special for 9.99 which is what a lot of people began going to them for. Expect to pay $5+ for just one taco and all of their other menu items have went up at least $2. read more

Been wanting to try this gem for a while and glad we went. It's in a small strip plaza with limited parking and it's small inside but we were able to snag a table easily. You order at the front and they bring the food to your table. And although there aren't traditional waiters, they still came to the table and asked if we needed anything and if the food came out correctly. I opted for the $10 special with 3 same meat tacos, rice & beans with a drink. The food was DELICIOUS! Authentic, flavorful, and fresh. I loved the salsa bar where I could add my perfect amount of onions and cilantro and try out the salsas. There was a steady flow of customers mainly take out. So this is a small little local business with big flavors. The tacos are great, the tortas are great, the service is great. What am I missing? The staff was super friendly, especially the young lady at the front. I could careless how good the food is, if the people aren't good I don't want anything to do with it. It sets the stage. And their people are awesome. But as for the food, must try the asada, and carnitas and pastor, and the sopes are great as well. The food is authentic which is what I look for. Ponchos used to run a lunch special for $9.99. They have increased this to $12.50 which is a 25% increase for the same food. While it was fairly priced before it isn't now especially for lunch. On top of that if you pay with a card it's a 3% surcharge. The food quality is not what it used to be either as I had a quesadilla and the chicken look like ground beef with much less than what was originally in the meal. The taste is fine, but the price is not. I think everybody should push back on restaurants that are passing on the merchant fee for using a credit card. That's a fee they've always paid while it may have increased. It has not increased to the point where it needs to be passed on to the customer . Doing business with credit cards is a cost of business not a cost to the customer. I know times are hard, but they basically just gave themselves a 3% increase in the bottom line over what they were receiving before. read more

Excellent food! We were immediately greeted by the owner. She is super friendly and accommodating. The steak tacos were very flavorful and some of the best I've ever had. The guacamole was exceptional. The salsas and serano peppers were much too spicy for us so she had the chef whip up some pica de Gallo for our chips. The restaurant is clean. It's nice to see the kitchen area and observe how clean it was as well. I especially appreciated the cleanliness of the restroom.
