Taqueria Hidalgo - Chile verde burrito - Mexican Near Me - Chualar, California

I was searching for a taqueria on my drive between central and southern CA and Taqueria Hidalgo fit the bill. It's a simple shop with fast service. I ordered a burrito with carne asada, rice, beans and cheese. The tortilla was great and they included lots of melty cheese. The ratio of ingredients was spot on. I did get a few chewy pieces of meat and I wish that the burrito was a little bigger for the price, but overall it got the job done. They only offer red salsa, no salsa verde, which was a bit of a bummer. read more

If you're craving real Mexican flavor, this place delivers. The pastor tacos are the star--perfectly marinated pork with that classic sweet-savory balance, a hint of pineapple, and a beautiful char. The tortillas are warm and fresh, and each bite tastes like it came straight from a Mexico City taquería. The asada quesadilla is another winner: generous portions of tender, juicy carne asada packed inside a perfectly toasted tortilla with melty cheese that stretches just right. It's simple, but full of flavor and incredibly satisfying. And the pastor torta? A must-try. The bread is soft but slightly crisped on the outside, loaded with seasoned pastor, fresh toppings, and just the right amount of sauce to bring everything together without making it soggy. It's hearty, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating. My son not only devoured the whole thing, he contemplated on ordering another. Overall, every dish feels authentic, well-seasoned, and made with care. Highly recommended for anyone who wants true, bold Mexican street-food flavor. read more

Taqueria Hidalgo - Mexican Near Me - Chualar, California

My family and I stopped in on our way home to the Bay Area from Pismo. Glad we did. It was so convenient as it's right off of the 101. It seems to be a family ran restaurant with friendly staff who make tasty dishes. On this trip we ordered the garlic shrimp plate, carnitas sopes, and carne asada tacos. My son left saying they were the best tacos he's had. I recommend them if you're looking for a quick, easy and tasty lunch! read more

Horrible customer service. The food looked good, but unfortunately walked out due to the service

Always the best food ever. Best people ever. The food keeps you coming back. Right off the Chualar exit.

This is definitely a spot you want to make sure to visit while passing by. I was greeted by a young girl who was patient and got my order right, they have a good selection of drinks. My girlfriend got agua de horchata and it was delicious (as someone who dislikes agua de horchata normally). I got asada, al pastor and chicken to try. The asada and al pastor are the main stars on their menu, delicious and juicy and priced at 2.50 each it is amazing. We got burritos to go and they have good rice and beans as well. Will be coming back for m read more

Was looking for a place to grab a quick bite heading down 101 and found this place on yelp. Breakfast burritos were fire. It's build your own and they're pretty sizable. Service was 10/10, the nicest people work here. If you're on the fence definitely stop- it's worth it. read more

Ordered tacos and a burrito. The food was tasty, but the tacos seemed quite slim and not filling enough.

Had chicharron and pastor tacos. Very good flavor. Was expecting crunchy chicharron but got stewed chicharron instead but it was still delicious! Will definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

Taqueria Hidalgo: Imagine the food they create given the thought behind the words on their chalkboard. A stop off the 101 between Salinas and King City, in Chualar - Taqueria Hidalgo - offers amazing food for those traveling that corridor. Make a point to stop by and work on your conversational Spanish when ordering if so inclined. I love the carnitas burrito and the Camarones Rancheros, but they are known for the Al Pastor. I don't think you can go wrong. Enjoy this wonderful pit stop! read more

Great little restaurant right off highway 101. The food was very good. I had a tasty burrito with pastor (marinated pork). The restaurant was clean along with the facilities. Thank you. read more

Delicious food and promptly served. I would highly recommend to anyone passing by that has an appetite for good food.

My mom made sure that we drove by this place on the way home. It's at the bottom of the grade from Carmel. The food is delicious. I had the Carne Asada plate, and my mom had the Enchilada verde con queso. My mom has celiac disease, and has to be very careful with the food that she chooses. Both were delicious! read more

Taqueria Hidalgo - The front counter of the restaurant. - Mexican Near Me - Chualar, California

I will never come back to this place again... because it is so out of the way compared to the places that I live. HOWEVER, it will live on as a great taco place in my heart. I basically ordered half the menu: carnitas and al pastor sopes, carne asada, carnitas, lengua, buche, tripe, and pescado tacos, and carnitas quesadilla plus horchata and hibiscus juice. Everything was mad heat, the tortillas were more tasty than tolerable somehow, and the meats were perfectly crispy. I didn't know that there was a flow state for eating until I started munching on my sister's food. Needless to say we ended up placing two more orders! I'm pretty sure that this place is popular with the locals because there were guys walking in and out with their orders within 5 minutes. If you are curious or passing through, I greatly encourage you to drop in! read more

Great taqueria, good food, very clean, fast service. What more could you want on a road trip. We'll definitely go back, next trip down the 101. We both got enchiladas verdes , which is my go to at a taqueria and these were delicious. Rice and beans were very authentic too. Enjoy! read more

Definitely among the best Taqueria I have ever eaten at. The service is amazing and the food is excellent. Very clean.

Great place to stop when heading back home to SoCal. The food is good. Chorizo burrito and tacos--can't go wrong!!! They are a little skimpy on the chiliques. Could have been from leftovers from day before especially the fried egg. I wouldn't order that in the morning. read more

Solid Mexican food. My only complaint is that if you order the fish or shrimp tacos, you must order 3. They're excellent, but you can't just get one. The carnitas was a little dry, but still good. Convenient, good value, but I wanted to try other things, but couldn't because I was forced to order 3 fish tacos. read more

It's a great place to eat in the area! If I compare it to all the tacos I've tried, theirs would be a two star to three star, but if I compare it to any food in the area, it's probably a 4 or a 5. It's located in the middle of Salinas. There's probably less than 10 restaurants within a 5 mile radius. read more

The best Mexican food isn't always the fanciest. The best Mexican food, simply put, is well prepared quality ingredients. Hidalgo is one of those little spots that doesn't need all the bells and whistles because the quality of the simple food they prepare is fantastic. The pastor is hands down some of the best I've ever had (cheap too!!!). Highly recommend! read more

Still, this place has yet to disappoint. A word of the wise, even if you are very hungry, 6 tacos might be overdoing it. I always get a couple carnitas and cabeza, which can be mouth watering. The asada, lengua, and al pastor are all very good too. I wasn't too impressed with the fish or chicken, but then again, I almost never am. read more
