I'm already obsessed and can see Taqueria El Campa being a go to place for me. You order at the window and can get dine in or take out. I was surprised because most places that have a window register don't provide service. They brought out chips and salsa, and they brought my food straight to me. It's casual and chill. I ordered a torta with campechana. It has chorizo and beef. It was amazing! The bread was toasted and had crispy edges. The ingredients were fresh. This is a hidden gem but has some of the best tacos we've ever had. We ordered from here the other day on Grubhub and it was so good that it had me wanting more so we stopped in for a quick lunch. We decided to eat there and they gave us chips and salsa, I'm trying to think of a better salsa I've had a restaurant and I really can't think of any better. I've lived in Phoenix and Houston for ten years each and I'd say this is the most authentic Mexican food you will find in the Metro Detroit area. Que Pasa looks pretty legit too, but I have not been there yet. My friend said that his Steak Burrito was the best he has ever had (he's from Kalamazoo). He loved the guacamole. My food was excellent too. I tried the mild red house sauce. It was really good and had a bit of a kick. Beans had good flavor and rice was good too (no peas and carrots). I carried out dinner from El Compa today and it was fine. It's an interesting location inside. Nice and plain and simple. The people behind the counter were really nice. Honestly, that's where the 4th star is coming from. They were super-nice and gave me all sorts of sauces and salsas, etc. They did forget to give me any silverware, napkins, etc. which wasn't great, because I'm at a nearby hotel and don't have access to any of that. The food was... good. You get free chips and salsa, which is increasingly rare these days, so that was nice. The salsa is decent, but I didn't care of their style of chips. They're clearly the thick and greasy style. The veggie burrito was good. I probably would not get the fajita veggies next time. So, overall good experience. Food is probably a 3 in terms of flavor and all, but as I said, +1 star for nice people read more

With this being the most hyped Mexican place in the area I finally decided to check it out with a buddy last night. I'm not at all unfamiliar with the counter style dining. The dining room is very plain and simple, but clean. The lighting is a bit harsh. A single three panel food art piece I could swear I've seen at Chili's or somewhere once before. Jaritos and coke products in the fridges *No Topo Chico or horchata :( Not really anything to throw me off there, but ultimately I have to say the ambiance perfectly matches the food. My friend got a taco dinner trying 3 different meats and I got the quesadilla meal with the asada after asking if they think they're doing the steak or pork more justice. We also got chips, salsa, and queso. We sat down to enjoy a strange audible hell of Mexican music being super sped-up between glitching out every few seconds. Again, not really a major point of contention but still not exactly enriching the experience. Our chips, salsa, and queso came out within a couple minutes. The salsa was quite good and you're given a very large portion of it (major plus). The chips and queso were another story however. The chips were very hard, thick, and flavorless. The queso tasted decent but was just a very very basic white queso. No spec of color, melted cheese on top, or garnish to it. Not even the typical red specks from pepper jack you can usually expect. It was still more enjoyable to eat the chips in the queso to add some softness than the salsa in spite the salsa actually being good. The chips are awful. Our food was alright. My friend was most partial to the birria between that, the asada, and al pastor on his tacos. He still wasn't really impressed by anything at all. My quesadillas were also really nothing special. Super finely ground streak. Only a couple small grizzle bits to spit out. Flavor on them was decent. Tortillas were good, but again, average-good. I'd say the same for the cheese. The rice and beans were some of the most simplistic looking I've ever seen. Fresh and decent flavor in their simplicity, but very bland behind expectations. Anyone calling this authentic Mexican has never left Roseville. There wasn't a hint of a single authentically Mexican spice in anything we tasted. This place was really close to calling it 4 stars and at least good. The food overall really isn't bad at all and there is an element of quality to the ingredients that meets fair in pricing. Even in their blander simplicity the tacos and quesadillas are at least on the better end of average. There's just too many shortcomings in the small details that force me to knock it down a peg. read more

Decided to try El Compa out for lunch last week as I work about half mile away. Got a quesadilla, loaded up with all the extras. Wasn't too bad, and permitting you load it up with everything, the cost is justified then. Also got a carne asada burrito. Wasn't bad, but they rely too much on the beans as the filler. I would have preferred much less refried beans and more rice or even black beans. The burrito to me was a bit too much on the expensive side given that fact that they use cheap refried beans as the main ingredient. So wasn't bad, flavor was good, prices are a little high in my opinion though. read more

They are open until 8pm tonight. No dine-in at all. Guess it wasn't clear when I asked about how late their dining area was open for ahead of arriving. We ordered 3 chicken tacos, one chicken quesadilla with all toppings except for sour cream and tomatoes, 1 chicken tostada and chips and guacamole. Chips and salsa comes with the meal. We bought two mandarins after the order was paid. The two mandarins are $4.47. The food order was $18.55. We ended up eating at the Rotary Park down the street on Utica. It's a bit of an inconvenience having to find and luckily there's one close by too. The bees are loving the mandarin and swarming us, along with bees. How fantastic. The quesadilla tastes good, it's small. The red sauce enchilada is dry as far as sauce does as is the meat. The tostada was bland and tasteless. We only got one bag of chips, the woman told us we would get two bags since the chips and salsa comes with the meal and we ordered chips and guacamole too. The guacamole was okay, bland as well, not much flavor either. The hot salsa was bad, it had good heat to it. The chips were crunchy and decent. They offer a wide range of options from tacos (with various choices of meat!) fajitas, chimichangas, enchiladas and quesadillas. We called for our order around 815pm and they closed at 9pm. We were thrilled they were still accepting orders and loved their great customer service over the phone. The kind worker was so helpful in helping us decide on some options. My boyfriend and I each opted for the taco meal, which comes with 3 tacos, rice and beans. The portion size was perfect for $10! He had the steak offering and I opted for the chicken taco. The flour tortillas were delicious! The perfect amount of softness. In the words of my boyfriend "THEY WERE SO DAMN GOOD!" The ingredients in my taco selection were also amazing and so fresh. The lettuce and cheese was a great addition to my seasoned chicken. The rice and beans are a great pairing to your meal. The rice is easily one of the best I've had at a restaurant. Full of flavor. We ordered the chips and queso as well. Lots of chips and the queso is spicy, but not too spicy. Great balance. Overall we will be returning!
